Battle of the Bulge Releases Next Week
Developer Shenendoah Studio has tweeted information that their upcoming World War 2 strategy game from designer John H. Butterfield, Battle of the Bulge, will be released on the App Store next Thursday, December 13, at 3pm Eastern Time. The reason for the exact time? Kickstarter backers will be getting their codes first, and then the app will open up for everyone else. Battle of the Bulge will be available for any iPad that can run iOS 5.0, including the iPad mini. Shenandoah currently has no plans to port the game to iPhone or Android.
Fluxx to Release Next Week
Playdek and Looney Labs have announced that the app for Fluxx has been approved by Apple and will be released on Thursday, December 13. Fluxx will be for iOS Universal and cost $2.99USD. The game features AI opponents or online asynchronous multiplayer for 2-4 players. Looks like next week is going to be busy!
Stronghold Games Timer App in the Works
Earlier we posted about an app from Stronghold Games, but we didn't have any specifics. Later, we heard from podcaster extraordinaire and Stronghold Games' president, Stephen Buonocore, and he filled us in on the details. The Stronghold Games Timer should be released sometime this December for both iOS and Android. The app will provide countdown timers that can be used for current or future games from Stronghold that use timers, which currently consist of Article 27: The UN Security Council Game and Space Cadets.
For Space Cadets, the app will configure itself based on the number of players. This will include screens and menus for the correct number as well as setting the correct number of seconds required for each step of the game. The Article 27 timer will be a 5 minute countdown timer, which is the length of each round of negotiation.
There will also be a simple timer function that can be configured to any time, and can be used with any game.
As Stronghold develops more physical boardgames that require timed elements, those will be added to the app as well. They're also considering delivering Stronghold Games news and offering discount codes to users of the app in the future.
New Gamebook Inspired From iPhone App
In the past we've mentioned how developers like Tin Man Games and inkle Studios are bringing printed gamebooks (Blood of the Zombies and Steve Jackson's Sorcery!, respectively) onto digital devices. We found a post today that goes the other direction. Megara Entertainment makes original gamebooks as well as the classic Fabled Lands gamebooks for iPhone and iPad. Now, they're taking one of their original iOS gamebooks and porting it backwards into a printed gamebook. The gamebook is called Arcana Agency: The Thief of Memories and is inspired by their app Arcana Agency: Prologue. The gamebook deals with detectives in 1930's New York. It will be 200 pages and full-color, if funded. The gamebook is near the end of their Kickstarter drive, which you can check out here. What's next, books inspired by Fruit Ninja? Oh, wait.
