Games, games and more games!
Last Friday games night of 2012, and the night before our annual post-Christmas games day, so we had lots of attendees (the problem was finding the rooms for them to sleep in overnight - that was almost a game in itself!). We started by introducing Matt to Haggis - as a Tichu fan we expected he'd enjoy it. As it happened, we only got one hand in before the next two people arrived, so we moved on to 7 Wonders, in which Mausoleum B was once more victorious! That was me, and our 6th player had just arrived, and three more were due soon, so I chose Zaubercocktail, which we haven't played for a couple of years - we had to make the decision whether to add it to the trade pile or keep it. It was much better than I remembered, so maybe we'll keep it for now, and see if it sees any more play.
By the time that finished the remaining three gamers arrived, and we were 9 for the rest of the evening. Several of the gamers were into party games, so Time's Up! Title Recall! was soon chosen for one table, while the other table learnt a game I haven't played - Wilderness I think it was called. Our game was very close for the first round, but my partner and I were able to gain momentum in later rounds. The end of the first round was particularlly amusing, as with 9 cards left, first one team, then the rest, managed to clean up all the cards they'd been working on in the earlier part of the round!
We finished slightly before the other table, except for the player who'd been eliminated, so he joined us for a quick filler - Mow, while waiting for them to finish. However they went straight from their game straight into a Seasons game without checking to see our status, so we couldn't change tables, instead playing Vegas Showdown. Marion's game went very well, and everything just seemed to go in her favour. Matt meanwhile made a fatal miscount of her money once, which kept his income below the curve and annoyed him rather! It was slightly odd in that none of the large buildings came out at all (two in the entire game), which made it rather harder to complete the yellow and blue areas!
Fiona said she was going to head bedwards after that game, but when I suggested Chronology as the next game she had a sudden change of heart. I was victorious as usual, but most of the others were close behind me.
Fiona then headed off, and surprisingly Trivial Pursuit was suggested next, and rapidly found four takers. I paired with Matt, and it rapidly became clear that we were a) very bad at rolling dice to land on anything other than yellow wedge squares, and b) just generally not nearly as good at answering questions. Marion in particular had the most amazing "guesses" which were usually right. They had five wedges before we got more than one, although we did recover to make it only a six-five loss.
