Surya's game blah blah

My initial impressions on games I recently played for the first time

I've always kept an eye on the Key games, most of the ones I've played I've either enjoyed or loved. I haven played last years title yet though.
Reading the rules I didn't really have a good idea of how this would play out. The rules where quite straight forward and clearly written though.
Starting our first game we all tried different things. Some started bidding for a bunch of tiles, others started using tiles right away. I was surprised by how fast the first round was over. And the second one. And the third one. And the last one. The game took about 90 minutes while I was expecting 120 minutes or more. It was fast and everyone was involved the whole time. Multiple strategies appear to be possible.
I was very pleasantly surprised about every aspect of this game. Good stuff!

New Amsterdam
I really loved Heartland from a couple of years back. The streamlined design made me curious of what this designer would come up with in the future. Which is why of all the titles White Goblin Games put out, this is the one I wanted to try first.
The rules are simple enough, but after the explanation I didn't really see how this would play out.
The auction for action disks is a very nice element that creates some very tense moments.
The way the different aspects of the game interact is kind of hard to get a grasp on, it's hard to figure out a good strategy on the first play through.
I enjoyed my first game of this quite a bit and I'd be glad to play again and explore the possibilities more.

Initial rating: 7.2

Jackal & High
This is a very light, luck driven game. It does offer some fun moments, but in the end you need a lot of luck to win.
Not much to add.
