one and two also include a handful of videos that focus on particular games.)
Turns out the early April is an odd time to hold a game show, at least in terms of getting news from the larger publishers. Representatives for Asmodee, Queen Games, and Fantasy Flight Games, for example, had nothing new to announce and little to show off that wasn't available at the toy and game fairs in Nürnberg and New York. FFG did have the game board and some components for Gearworld: The Borderlands, due out in Q2 2013, whereas at NY Toy Fair the publisher had just the box and nothing more. That's progress, I suppose.
And Queen's Rajive Gupta demonstrated a production copy of Michael Feldkötter's Via Appia, which was available in Nürnberg only in a preproduction form and due out in May 2013.
Now onto another handful of games...
Upper Deck Entertainment's Jason Brenner provides an overview of Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game - Dark City, due out June 25, 2013, as well as other expansions forthcoming in the Legendary card game series. No artwork or card powers on display, alas, but I assume Brenner will post spoiler images all over the place when the time comes to ramp up excitement over the new release.
Eagle Games launched a Kickstarter project for Peter Hawes' Francis Drake in early April 2013, and the timing isn't an accident as Hawes and Eagle's previous project – Triassic Terror – has finished production and is due to hit stores in late April 2013. One project done, so it's time to start something else! In any case, here's Sean Brown giving a rundown of what's going on Triassic Terror:
Salmon Run from Gryphon Games, the more family-oriented game brand in the Eagle/Gryphon publishing duopoly. Once again Sean Brown provides an overview of how to play and what you're trying to do.
Roll For It! on The Game Crafter, but now Ray Wehrs from Calliope Games has picked up the design and is prepping it for release in 2013. Here, he explains the game to a couple of retailers, with me poking my microphone into the scene and asking nosy questions.
Snake Oil – first self-published in 2010, then repackaged and reworked by Out of the Box Box Publishing – with Derek and Bridget providing me with foils to prove once again that my acting abilities are on par with the best in the world.
