After a 3 week nomination period, and a 2 week voting period the results are in.
This category was created last year to given non-reprints and non-expansions their own place to shine, and shine they do. Of last year's finalists, seven are already in BGG's top 500... several in the top 100.
This year's list looks promising as well, with a pair of Fantasy Flight Star Wars titles, including Star Wars: The Card Game that nabbed the top spot.
Unfortunately, there were two entries that made it through the nominations phase in this category instead of the Reprint category. As I stated that I would leave it to the voters to decide, I won't disqualify either Vinhos or Goa, but to be fair to two titles that might have had a shot at making the list we'll expand it to 12 instead of 10.
Two wargames made the list this year... the Kickstarter blockbuster D-Day Dice and The Guns of Gettysburg. Next year will see the sesquicentennial (150th) of the Battle of Gettysburg, a signal event in the American Civil War, which I'm sure will help drive interest in the latter.
In the "Every Vote Counts" category, Nightfall: The Coldest War barely missed the list by a mere TWO votes.
Although Sci-Fi was dominant, it wasn't as dominant in this category as it was in the Reprint and Expansion categories.
Without further ado here are the 10 Most Anticipated Original Games of 2012 as determined in this most unofficial, informal and unscientific experiment.
