I frequently see questions asked about what games can be played with just a single player, and while there have been several other lists created for this purpose, I aim to make this the definitive list. Please add any games I may have missed.

The two questions I always ask when looking at games are; "What's this about?" and, "Is this solitaire only, or can I play it with others?" To answer these questions, I have listed a brief summary of each game (stolen from the game's page) and listed the number of players supported.

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

This one is a quite odd duck among the 18XX series for many reasons but solo play does really make it stand out! Many have also adapted the solo rules to other 18XX games, it seems like those from the 1829 branch (This one, 1825 Units, 1853) work really well with them.

1914: Opening Moves is a simple solitaire game where the gamer plays the German, and the game system plays the allies. The object of the game is to get enough victory points (VP) to win. VP can be gained by holding VP hexes on the western front (on the map, vs. the western allies), and through rolls simulating developments on the eastern front (vs. Russia). The game lasts a total of five turns, representing mid-August to early September, 1914, the most fluid period in the west during the Great War.

The 19th hole is a Card and Dice GolF game for 1 to 2 players. It consists of individual course cards that depict sections of golf course holes; such as the green, the fairway, and the tee box. You put each hole together based on the course card section number on the score card or create your own course!

The cards also depict clubs [1W, 3W, 1I, 3I, 5I, 7I, 9I, Pitching Wedge, Sand Wedge and Putter]

The game is broken down in to two mechanics; clubs strokes and putting shots. You use club stroke actions until you reach the green then you change to the putting mechanic to complete the hole.

You decide the club to use and roll the dice for Power, Elevation, and Accuracy! 2D6 are rolled for each of the three main club actions.

There is a really cool dice mechanic for putting and takes into account the four different levels of play!
Beginner
Intermediate
Experienced
Professional

This game simulates golf as close as possible within a card and dice game! All golf rules apply!

You only need to cut out 35 cards to play the game and use [10] colored D6 dice!

The successor to the successful Haze Islands is 4XL. This sandbox 4X space game for 1-4 player age 12+, designed in Japan by Charles Ward from EX1ST GAMES, is published as forever-free print and play game for the 2019 Solitaire Print and Play Contest.

FEATURES

- Players control up to 4 fleets that can hold ships, crew, science, artefact, rewards, medals, cargo, and freight cards.
- The galaxy is made of innovative chevron shaped tiles that create different trading and traveling opportunities in every game.
- The simple AI grows gradually and provides opportunities for scoring points, as well as a moderate threat.
- Players can choose from a variety of ways to score points, from base building, to combat, anomaly exploration, missions, and so much good stuff that you will barely get to it all.
- 4XM, a subset of 4XL, is a rule set (included in the game) that offers a very engaging, yet low player interaction, pick up and delivery trading game. 4XM is a great way to learn part of 4XL as every rule applies in the larger sandbox game.
- The game is easily expandable with more card, and I will eb doing just that. Who wants a boss mother-ship battle at the end of the game? Who want illegal cargo? Who want deeper exploration? Area extermination? More missions? Anomalies? Ships? Oh boy, oh boy. What have I gotten myself into?

Here is an interesting game with the solo-gamer in mind. It has a reported playing time of 1000 minutes, and boasts an easy game-saving feature. From the BGG page for this game:

It's the early 20th century. You have decided to sail back to the newly discovered seventh continent to attempt to lift the terrible curse that has struck you since your return from the previous expedition.

In The 7th Continent, a "choose-your-own-adventure" exploration board game, you choose a character and begin your adventure on your own or with a team of other explorers. Inspired by the Fighting Fantasy book series, you will discover the extent of this wild new land through a variety of terrain and event cards. In a land fraught with danger and wonders, you have to use every ounce of wit and cunning to survive, crafting tools, weapons and shelter to ensure your survival.

Unlike most board games, it will take you many, MANY hours of exploring and searching the seventh continent until you eventually discover how to remove the curse(s)...or die trying.

The 7th Continent features an easy saving system so that you can stop playing at any time and resume your adventure later on, just like in a video game!

8-Bit Zombie Smash is a quick solitaire 'tile-laying' card/dice game that plays in 10-15 minutes. Your goal is to smash as many zombies as you can while creating safe houses within the neighborhood. You have a variety of weapons to use and certain areas to use them in. Try not to leave any zombies alone for too long because more will be created. Each card must lay on top of a previous card by at least one section or minus points are accrued.
This is a beat your high score style of card/dice game that only uses 18 cards, 10 d6 and 6 cubes.

Three games in one, all with solo variants. Two of them are remakes of Feurio and Vulcan. Have only played Volcano (Vulcan) solo. Yeah, it's abstract, but I like it. I know that I enjoyed much better than some other solo variants out there - e.g Forbidden Island.

A ACW game covering five battle of the conflict; Bull Run, Pea Ridge, Shiloh, Gettysburg, and Bentonville. Each battle is a separate game unto itself, with its own set of counters and map, however the basic system applies to all the battles. Players pull a chit to activate certain formations which can then move. If the "Combat" chit is pulled, then all combats are resolved. Formations and Unit size varies from game to game, ranging from division to corp for formations and regiment to brigade for units.

Nominee for the 1992 Charles S. Roberts awards for Best Pre-World War II Boardgame (Charles S. Roberts Awards).

The forerunner to warhammer quest came with solo rules and personally I prefer it. Many a day spent soloing.

According to the BGG recommended players poll, 66% voters don't recommend this game for one player. I disagree. It's a good press-your-luck game that plays fine with one player. You can run any amount of adventurers as you want and try different things out vs. the boulder. I'm on the 33% side with this one.
