It was Plasteboard and Plastic time again. Already1 I was planning on driving down to foist sell a few games on some unsuspecting lucky people who may not have experienced them yet. I mentioned it at our regular Tuesday night session and

said he'd join me to clear out his own collection a bit. We got down and unloaded on a miserable morning with rain lashing the sturdy little scout hut.

I priced my dodgy wares red-hot gaming hotness at a couple of pounds each and found that Garry had only gone and brought games that people might actually want! And Baltimore and Ohio! I sensed the market crashing before it had opened....

A game of 'Dominate Convention' to start off with (although Eclipse may well be stealing that crown).

This was my second play of this fantastic, if long, game and I got the amphibians. I'd not played them before and I resolved to maximise the number of high yield hexes I was on and run the game clock down as fast as possible. I made sure I was always taking the first action when possible which got me three extra action markers and I never diversified beyond two food types. That strategy paid off.

Whilst we were playing several folks rolled up to the table to give me a small amount of money for my games and Garry larger amounts for his. He nearly got rid off Baltimore & Ohio, only for Dick, our host, to switch it for In the Year of the Dragon. This late and inspired change of tactic can only pay off for Dick (unless he gets locked out of his first game by turn 3, in which case we'll be seeing it on the table at P&P WVIII).

Next up: O'Zoo le Mio! a brain-bending tile bidding and placement game. This is a really clever little game that I am pretty terrible at playing, but has some great mechanisms for auction tie splitting and tile evaluation. There were several times that a tile came up for auction and my thought process was:

"That's great! I'll bid 5! Wait. How does that fit? Hmm. It's still OK. Is that a path? Dammit- it is. That's not so good. It fact that'll split my reptiles. They wont like that. It actually sucks. I'll bid 1."

I came dead last.

It was nearly time for the raffle. I snuck my unsold copies of Strozzi (all the theme of Medici with twice the playing time and eight times the complexity) and a beaten up copy of Mensa Connections that had suffered in "The Great Gaming Shelf Collapse of '07". there was a draw in which Garry got the two best item IMO, and my games went to happy homes.

A game of K2 to finish and Garry, Steve and I were joined by Richard and Alan for a full scale push up the peak in the winter. As with the last time we played my conservatism and snuggly tent skills won through when Richard's demonstrably better strategy was defeated by the game giving him rubbish when he needed gold. Garry's 'urinate up all tents as you pass them' strategy once again failed to deliver.

A final sale of Gravediggers for me at a mighty £3 and Garry moving Baltimore & Ohio after hanging out for the asking price ("I really like train games" said the unsuspecting victim. "Oh good" replied Garry. "Really? How much do you like Microsoft Excel?", thought I), then we left for home in the evening sun.
