This light dexterity party game involves you hitting a tree with an axe so that the bark but not the core falls off. It is quick, fun and one that younger children can also play. It could be loosely thought of as similar to Jenga. Richard showed off his new purchase of the second edition and there were three games of it played.
Game 1: Ernest 7, Richard 2
Game 2: Ernest 4, Austin -3, Richard -7
Game 3: Austin 5, Ernest 4, Richard -18

I taught this to Tim, Genevieve, Alistair, Dave and Aaron. Dave had played before and helped with the gameplay.

I had heard the odd negative comment about the game but found it to be a blast. I only had the original rules to work from but didn't encounter any insurmountable difficulties. But I will be downloading the updated rules before the next game. Overall a great game! Tim was the initial host and managed to get the infection out before being gunned down. From there the spread was slow but the desire for gas cans once the hive was revealed became Daves downfall as he became infected by myself and from there the hunmans downfall was somewhat inevitable.

Dave taught this one. Genevieve and I had already played before but Alisdair and one other player (I don't know her name!) were new.
The game played relatively quickly (as it should) with only a little intrigue take-that card play. The winner was the player whose name I don't know. I'd be grateful if someone could let me know her name.

I taught this one though only Alsidair was completely new. Eric had read the rules and Tim had a few plays under his belt. The rules took a little explaining but that was more to do with volume than complexity and I felt Alisdair was able to play properly and confidently from quite early on. Tim pointed out a couple of things that I hadn't picked up on in my read throughs.
The game was fun, the simultaneous nature of many of the actions helps move it along well. I was so engrossed in my own play that I didn't pay too much attention to what other people were doing but that impressed me as I was immersed in running my own pet shop, no boredom in this game!
Eric was the winner by some margin with a killer sale through the platform at the end, I think he had the game wrapped up from the second last turn but that wasn't clear to me until afterwards which I like because we all kept playing to the end.
Keen to play again, keen to take a few more risks next time. Oh, and I must name my petz in future. I was too engrossed in the mechanics and being a teacher to relax and fully enjoy the theme.

Tim (Tryhorn, TT) taught this one. I had played once before but Tim (Yates TY), Warren and Kim were new to the game.
TY got an early lead and effectively stayed ahead for the entire game and won, partly through a large noble holding at games end.
I enjoyed the game, but find it quite a pain to keep track of what everyone is doing and what they may do. This means that I always feel at the end that I could have done better if I had paid attention. However the gameplay is interesting and engaging enough that I don't mind that, I can just play my own game. I'm suspicious that the nobles are critical to winning and that therefore money is the real decider as it allows you to take nobles whilst still taking advantage of the other action in the castles. I don't have enough plays to know for sure however. I must remember to concentrate on money next game!

Finished the day with a five player game of Grug Gulo Gulo.

It's like ordinary Gulo Gulo but instead you use Grug's copy that I happened to have in transit to him.

It is so not the game for big fingers.

Kim Tan was the Grug Gulo Gulo Grandmaster.

Carrying on from new games that I brought along, Pastiche came after Tok tok woodman.

Great pieces in this game, with gameplay being alright, just need to be in the mood for it.

I managed to win in the end after completing very complicated multi-colour masterpieces

First game for Aaron who also performed admirably as the Admiral

6 player - cylon leader included (guess who? ). The usual suspect, Ernest, turned out to be, yet again, a Cylon and Mark also joined him soon after we had run 7 distance.

Tim played Kat the pilot and with Eric, Aaron and myself all working together we got the Battlestar to Kobol - however the Cylon leader just narrowly missed out on also achieving her goal of being the guide of destiny.

Overall a good game although without the cylon fleet board, makes it tougher for the Cylons.

Not Hinterlands per se but a random assortment.

2 games of which Eric won both after a well played first game and badly played strategy by his opponents in the second game sealed the wins

Stone Age 5 players (Kim, Tegan, Warren, myself and Ernest) with decorations.

Not much explanation was required and we all started out decorating our new villages. Quickly became clear that Tegan was the most populous, Warren the most technologically advanced and myself with the most tools. Ernest took a new path - trading - which did work out quite well considering he made 2 huts out of gold.

In the end, Warren won convincingly with Ernest 2nd, Kim 3rd and myself scratching out 4th by one point to Tegan.

A good expansion which is different especially with 5 players.
