Taking part is easy:

1) Add the game of the miniature you painted as an item to the list.

2) Add the picture of your painted miniature in the comment section for that game.

(use the format [imageid=xxxxxmedium] where xxxxx is the id of the picture)

That way people will be able to better judge your work. Medium should be sufficient please do not use large.

Rules:

1) The image you submit must have been uploaded during July 2012. Gallery images are ok but submitted images are preferred, as they've gone through the geek mod process it guarantees the picture quality and it's also easier to check the submission date. The contest will end on August 31st.

2) You are the artist. Please do not submit miniatures painted by someone else.

3) One entry per person. You may, however, use up to two pictures of your entry to the front and back of the miniature.

4) The winner will be the picture with the most thumbs. You can thumb as many as you like.

5) If you can; include the make of the mini, scale and what paints you used in your entry.

Prizes:

Any tips received will awarded as prizes as follows:

1st place: 50%
2nd place: 37.5%
3rd place: 12.5%

So if the tip total comes to 40 geekgold 1st will get 20, 2nd 15 and 3rd 5 etc.

Geekgold is also given for honourable mentions so even if you don't feel confident about winning you might still get a prize

I'll round down tips and put the remainder towards future prizes.

Judging at the end of the month and winners will appear in the next months list.

1st place will now also receive an exclusive microbadge! Microbadge: Golden Turtleback Painted Miniature Monthly Contest winner

Please give this geeklist a thumb to help get it to the front page. The more contestants the better!

And don't forget to click on the images you like and give the actual images thumbs up as well!

Yay, I qualify once more! Wasn't super-productive last month (and alas, it looks like this month may end up being the same - stupid RL), but I did manage to churn out a couple of "test" models for Space Hulk.
Board Game: Space Hulk (Third Edition)

I was quite chuffed with the result, to the point that I may actually end up using them in preference to the models that come in the box!

Edit: oh yeah, the rules. They're nominally 28mm scale (actually it's 28mm up to the bottom of Sarge's chin, but hey - they're bio-enhanced Space Marines, and this is GW after all), and painted mostly with old-school GW paints.

Part of the "test" was that Sergeant Percy was primed with GW Skull White spray, then base-coated with Blood Red, whereas Brother Zach simply got a priming with Army Painter Pure Red spray. Other than that, I used the exact same techniques and colours on both. If you look carefully, you can see that Zach's armour is just that bit darker than the Sergeant's, but not enough to matter, and priming with Red off the bat saves me a decent chunk of time.

Oh, and finally, if you're admiring my detail work with the numerals on their kneepads, or the skull on Brother Zach's power fist, it's probably fair to announce that I kind of "cheated", and used a sheet of GW slide-on decals for those.

It's been a slow month paintwise, I only just managed to finish this one off at the last minute.

Vallejo and GW paints, Tamiya varnish. Ship name, ensign and crest are decals I made myself.

Whoa, people are fast today. Anyway, here's my entry:

Board Game: Malifaux

It's a "Silent One" from the Cult of December sub-faction, and painted with Vallejo paints and Citadel washes.

ETA: Malifaux figures are nominally 30mm, tho if she were standing upright I think she'd be well taller than that. As is, her eyes are about 20 mm above the level of the base.

Not properly shot but i want to take part to motivate myself to get more painting done. I'm real happy with how this cane out, tiny little thing, and it feels good to actually get something done.

Board Game: Space Hulk (Third Edition)

Board Game: Space Hulk (Third Edition)

Edit: to add some of the paints used in order of application.
Primed white with a Krylon primer
Painted Vellejo Stone Gray
Skulls were done in Games Workshop Bleached Bone.
The raised "Wood" sections were done in Vallejo Flat Earth.
The gold was done by watering down Games Workshops Burnished Gold so it flowed from the brush and filled the recesses.
Used some Games Workshop Gryphonne Sepia on the skills and the gold.
Red gems were done with a base of Vellajo Flat Red then increasingly highlighted with layers made by adding Transparent Yellow to the Flat Red.
The Purple gems are Games Workshop Liche Purple followed by highlight layers with Vellajo (Game Color) Dead white.
The small green gems are Vellajo Deep Green, I think.
The small stones/teeth at the bottom are Games Workshop Bleached Bone.
I then sealed it with a spray gloss varnish followed by a spray matte varnish.

One demon just wasn't enough for me in this great game. So I began a project to add custom demons to Claustrophobia last month.

You may recognize the model- it was a lone Nagrub from Heroscape I had. I removed him from his base and primed him before repainting him. For the base, I used a rock I had collected at the beach to add to the base for realistic effect. I wanted him to be crawling upwards. The rock split apart very nicely, I feel.

I was inspired by a previous winner here with his work on lava like rock.

I'm very pleased with how this little guy turned out. This might be one of my favorite minis painted so far.

Here is my underground hunter.

Here is one that’s a little bit different, a 15mm camp follower element for DBA. The miniatures are from Xyston and Museum (I think) and paint from Vellajo, Foundry with (old) GW washes. The tent is from Baudea and the camp area is just a piece of felt cut to size. I bought a bunch of these type of miniatures (as well as a couple of packs of 15mm gladiators from, of all places, Gladiator Games) for a Spartican army I have plans to do someday. Someday …..
