Cutely summarised as Indiana Jones all over the world, Richard, Misha, Elaine and I played 4 different characters trying to race around the world, trying to get various treasures/artefacts. Dodging Nazis, dealing with events and getting to the treasure/artefacts first are not merely enough. At each treasure/artefacts, each hero must navigate several dangers (dice rolls), of which failing one results in a clifhanger to be negotiated next turn – will the hero survive the car crash? Can the hero swim faster than the sharks? How will s/he escape from being kidnapped?

This game is like a B adventure game come to life. It is almost the antithesis of a Euro-game, with lots of dice, loads of story opportunities and the ability for moments to wildly swing due to a cards being played. In our game, Richard exposed my treasure/artefact as a fake just as I was selling it, I stole his treasure/artefact when we were in the same city, Misha got spotted several turns in a row by one of the Nazi bosses and Elaine got a dog as a sidekick. Misha took out the win in the end, dodging past Nazis in the USA as he made it back to his home city.

As a light, dice-rolling adventure game, it was fun but I wouldn’t want to play it with any more than 4 players in the competitive mode as I think it would drag on for too long. I would be interested to see how the cooperative mode played out, but instinctively I think I would prefer the competitive mode – that’s my treasure you’re after!

Rowland brought this game with the 5 player expansion to teach at least me the game for the first time. Originally for 4 players, the expansion adds some new cards, guilds and the ability for a 5th player and it was for this that Rowland, Anna, myself, Misha (for whom Tim took over later) and Rudolf sat down to play.

Never having played the original game, I am in no position to comment about whether this expansion makes the game better or not (and would be willing to play the base game). Reminiscent of Kingsburg, players roll dice and use the results on the dice to do stuff on the board. It seems like there are several different things to do that all lead to the same end effect (unlike, say, Stone Age where one can ignore tools, or go for the infamous starvation strategy etc. in order to get points), but this might just be my vast inexperience talking.

I didn’t mind the game, and Rowland used his experience to win with 11 points over Anna (9), myself (8), Misha/Tim (8) and Rudolf (6).

Jason (Vindicator 45t), Terry (Dragon 60t), Ernest(Trebuchet 50t) & Rudolph (Panther 35t) were victorious over Tim (Hunchback 50t), Mark (Jenner 35t), Rowland (Dervish 55t) and Paul(Asassin 40t) [taken from Tim - I have no idea what those Tech's mean].

From where I sat (and muddle through the rules), it seemed like we had stronger but slower Battle Techs, while they had faster and weaker ones. Highlights include Mark deciding that the best idea would be to use his fast tech to get in amongst it, and promptly found himself 1 vs 4 against the enemy, Mark trying to kick someone and falling over instead, Tim taking out Terry with one shot, Paul jumping so that he was directly behind me, and Rowland moving 2 spots the entire game.

This wasn't too bad - I don't know how often or much I would want to play it again, but I'm happy to have experienced it. Thanks to Jason for organising this game.

Quick game between Warren, Elaine, Paul and myself. Came down to a fight out at the end but everyone seemed to enjoy it

Had a game of this with Matt and Opals. Matt won, but it was quite close in the end.
This game was quite intriguing and strange. We were rebuilding a destroyed city, and collecting crystals and dragon scales to buy places on an increasingly expensive score chart (first player to buy five spots on the chart wins). The strategy is in choosing when to resurrect a destroyed building, or in trying to get other players to finish them for you, in order to get the highest payoff. You do this by playing coloured cards from your hand on the corresponding building tiles. The cards visually represent the strange workers/inhabitants/aliens who are rebuilding the city, and have special powers depending upon their race.
I liked it! Towards the end of the game you rarely have the cards you need, so it's a bit of a scramble to discard and redraw and get around the board.
Oh yeah, and there's dragons in it! They fly around, and do... not much. They weren't really that important it would seem, mainly because they were a bit hard to coordinate with your plays. But still, who doesn't like dragons?!

A beautiful-looking little game with an interesting balancing mechanism in that you, as a lazy artist, get advantages and disadvantages based upon what time you get up in the morning.
Of course, you're all competing to paint/restore a large fresco, and the bishop is inspecting it--you can 'bribe' him to come over and have a look at your finished part and get a few extra points as you go along.
I liked this game, but had a real hard time figuring out the best balance in spending actions. Plus, I ended up with too many yellow paints because I woke up fairly late all the time.
Nice, grand-looking game, requiring a lot of forward thinking.
Was it Matt who won in the end? I can't remember... I do know that I came last, but that's pretty much a given.
