Another fun Thornlie meet with some interesting games being played. If you were there, why not tell us all about what went down: the victories and the defeats; the splendid meeple deaths?

One of my favourites at the moment. I sort of taught the game to Luke and Alistair (though I think he had played before and just needed refreshing), and all in all it went fairly smoothly once we cleared up a few of my misconceptions.
Opals, Alistair, Luke and I had a highly competitive race to the death for pretty much every category. All but one pauper's grave was filled by the time we completed the chronicle and ended the game.
Luke dominated the church, but retired at least one of his monks to die as a farmer. Opals, Alistair and I battled furiously over the council chambers with a flood of scrolls. Opals minted many a coin and was the richest player by far. Not much travelling went on because... well, carriages are expensive, I guess.
I managed to creep in the win by having the most customer tiles (18 points worth). I think also, having the first turn for the majority of the game helped a little, since I took the council ring most rounds.

Great fun!

This was an interesting game! Opals taught Luke, Alistair and I the ropes.
The bidding and land taking portions of the game sort of naturally divided itself up between us without too much competition initially, but eventually things hotted up once we reached the city itself.
There was fair competition over the trade goods, but Luke ended up with the most cards. We could not decide whether one of the commodity images represented sultanas or grain or whatever, but there ensued much discussion on the topic.
I think Alistair's businesses were the most widespread, and Opals got the most keys to the central city quarter, but somehow, miraculously, I managed to win... by exactly one letter of business (Opals had 73 and I had 74). I think I was just lucky that two of the scoring cards depicted the river that I dominated early in the game.

I liked this game! Its theme is merchant infiltration as you slowly creep from the coast to the innermost city.

Joined in a game of this with David. He had just played a teaching game with a couple of new visitors.

Played a great game of Tobago with Elaine and John (I believe that was his name?). This was my first play of this great modular logic/deduction game. I managed to power through by collecting many Talismans and claiming a lucky victory.

We managed to be unaffected by both curses in the game as they ended up being the final cards in the treasure reveal section.

Really enjoy the mechanics in this game! Thanks for introducing it to me, Elaine!

Played a game of Ticket to Ride: Europe instructed by Andrew with two new WABA attendees (Robin and J...?).

I hadn't played on the Europe map before so this was a nice change. Andrew hoarded cards and sunk my bold plans - you can tell he's played Ticket many-a-time! We didn't play with the stations, though I'm looking forward to seeing how they affect the game.

Andrew took the well-earned victory here.

I then introduced the two new players to Drakon as they had about 30 mins to optimise!

Jason introduced this game to myself and a few others. Was good fun and a nice lead in to the following tournament at Decembacon.
