WABA moved from Mt. Claremont to GenghisCon for this months meet. It was the most packed meet I've ever seen with about 2000 people jammed into a space the size of a small classroom. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but it was definitely standing room only.

Here's what was played.

Had a test game with Nathan before teaching and playing with Warren, Rowland, Tim and Nathan.
Big novelty value and a lot of fun. Due to the fudge factor with the way the string is used it cannot be taken too seriously. But with only five turns each its length is just right. I look forward to pulling this one out every now and then.

Note to Rowland - No more string jokes please, I can only take so many bad puns.....

Terry kindly taught this one to myself and Chris.
If you've played Dominion or a similar deck builder you'll be able to play this pretty much straight out of the box. Some of the Dominion clones don't quite work but I found that I enjoyed this one. Not as deep as Dominion and with a certain random element to the way the purchasable cards come out the play of each turn was very quick without any of the extreme chain combos that you can sometimes get in other similar games.
I look forward to playing again, the theme was good and I found myself making superhero wisecracks.

Had two games of this, a six and a seven player.
Six player - Terry, Richard, Chris, Chris, Svenn and myself.
Seven Player - Richard, Ernest, Mark, Chris, Terry, Nathan and myself.
We played with the Cities expansion but not Leaders (of course).
In the first game only one of the Chris's was new. Svenn played the strongest game to win with a good haul of points in a few categories. Richard dominated the second game with a large science play, though winning the last combat with a single military card helped!
Thank you to Richard for his Cities expansion rules run through in both games.

I jumped into a game of this with Tim, Warren, Rowland and Nathan.
I'm still not sure how to play this well, I suspect that there is a fair bit of luck as to whether your initial cheap purchases morph into giant point hauls. But that may be just an excuse to cover my average play of this game. That said I always enjoy the interactions in this game, with each player squirming as the river manager sits like a fat cat waiting for his inevitably overpriced payoff. Mwahahahaha!

A good, quick card game. I think that there is probably too much of a random element for my tastes but the speed of the game makes up for that shortcoming. Nathan likened it to Citadels and I agree. I would much rather play Love Letter, whereas Citadels I can give a miss quite happily.

Taught by Misha and also played with Joff and Jacob. This is a very enjoyable hand management game where your hand consists of a number of animal and event cards. There are 6 types of animals each with varying Food Chain values and Element icons and the player who plays the highest total value each round takes the points for that round. The twist lies in the Biome cards of which a new one is dealt each round. These affect the value of some animals and also offer bonus points for playing the most icons of certain Elements. Some animals also have the ability to endanger and decrease the value of other animals on the table.

I think it was Joff who won by 2 points with everyone else tied.

This is a card game that Jacob got from Kickstarter recently. It's got assassins and beasts and robots and heroes and mercenaries and battlegrounds and really cool art but in the end it's just a thinly disguised UNO clone, and just like UNO after a couple plays it's quite boring.

Tim kindly taught this one to myself and warren.
This game looks fantastic. The components are very good with the chits being thick and colourful. I especially admire the board. It manages to both be very clear in exactly what each space is for and at the same time being busy and detailed.
The play is straightforward as well and Tim simply went through what each worker placement space did and we were pretty much ready to go. I think that there was maybe only one or two rules queries in the game, a testament to the teacher and the game.
The game is basically a worker placement game where you collect various resources to make bombs which confer victory points.
Overall I wasn't won over by the game on the basis of this one play. I can see how I could have played better but I missed out on an income building early on and then didn't see another one hit the building track until way too late and catching up was just not possible. I would certainly play again, if not because I enjoy this kind of worker placement/cube pushing game but I am fairly sure that there is one whole side to the game (bombing) that doesn't make any sense to do.
Tim won by building two tested plutonium bombs despite a concerted bombing campaign from both the other players and also a certain amount of espionage.

I taught Eric the new Star Wars LCG, he played as the Sith and I took control of the Rebel Alliance. Other factions available are the Imperial Navy, Jedi, Scum and Villainy, and Smugglers and Spies.

Like most CCG-style games you play a number of characters, vehicles and enhancements and then attack the other player, hopefully with enough strength to win the battle but also not with so much that you leave yourself vulnerable when it comes to their turn.

Each side has a number of objective cards that affect parts of the game. The light side wins by destroying 3 of the dark side's objectives and the dark side wins by advancing a dial from 0 to 12, gaining 1 point per turn.

Eric committed to the force early and started racing the dial up but I was lucky to get out a very strong ship and consistently damage his objectives each turn and win with a few rounds to spare.

It's going to take a few more plays to see how I feel about this one but it's Star Wars so I can't see myself not buying at least a few of the Force Packs when they come out.

This was a preorganised game played by Ernest, Richard, Nathan, Mark and myself. I am not sure just how many expansions we played with but it seemed to be just about everything except Cylon leaders.
There was a certain amount of pressure on the humans from the start, in fact probably more than I've ever seen. It could all be dealt with but left no room for luxury actions. I was playing Laura Roslyn and had to executive action a pilot every turn rather than getting some quorum cards together.
An early crisis card check resolution was sabotaged by a Cylon but it could have been one of three players so tensions rose early. It was not clear who had sabotaged the check until a reveal much later on. In fact it was not until the after the sleeper phase that one of the pilots (Richard) revealed and set about a campaign of holding back the jump track. He passed his other two cards to two other players, one of them being myself, and I was suddenly a Cylon. Thanks to some in-game chat the Admiral (Ernest) was incorrectly pinpointed as the other Cylon and I was able to brig him by visiting an Ally before revealing and aiding Richard by swarming Cylon raiders around Galactica. Mark was incredibly unlucky by dying twice at the hands of allies and that certainly very badly impacted the humans who had the admiral permanently brigged. The lack of cards meant that the dials all dropped into the red with very little effort from the Cylons. Eventually Pegasus was destroyed, the Galactica had a damaged weapons system, armory and hangar bay, and its population dropped to a dangerously low level making a risky jump terminal if failed. Under extreme Cylon pressure the die was rolled and the jump went badly reducing the population level to zero - A CYLON WIN. Realistically however even if the jump had been successful the humans were pretty much out of it.
An enjoyable game, probably more so because I was a Cylon versus the doomed humans!

Tim brought Trajan along and taught 2 first timers, Steve and Oliver. I made up the foursome. Compared to the last time we played with Grug, we managed to get nearly all the rules right I say nearly as I checked afterwards and found that advancing on the senate track gives you immediate points per advance, not just once at the end of the round. I knew my senate strategy seemed underpowered!

The guys got into the game well, and Oliver ran away with it by dominating the construction site. Note to self, don't let other players do that! Strategy tip of the day - find an area of the board where others aren't competing.

Still my fav game of 2012.

Also taught this to Eric having a couple plays under my belt already.

This is a brilliant game and the thing I love about it is how each player plays a completely different way. The Corp, played by Eric, attempts to advance and score a number of hidden agendas which he installs into his servers, winning if they get to 7 points. The Runner, played by me, attempts to hack into the Corps servers and steal the agendas before they can be advanced and scored. If the Runner steals 7 points of Agendas then they win. Protecting the agendas are other cards called Ice and these generally require the Runner to use their 733t h4x0r skills in the form of Icebreaker programs and credits to get past them or risk failing the run, getting tracked by the Corp, or even injury and death.

We kept pretty even for the game, eventually becoming tied at 5 points while Eric struggled to draw an Agenda he could play, and if there are no Agendas for the Corp to advance then there are none for the Runner to try and steal. Eventually he drew one and had enough credits to play it and advance it in the same turn before I had a chance to try and steal.

Corp wins 7-5.

I sat down to a game of this while waiting for Battlestar Galactica to begin. A reasonably light fare game attempting to recreate a first person shooter computer game experience along the lines of Doom, Quake 3 etc.

A fun enough game, but certainly not one with lasting appeal for myself. Beyond the neat feature of being able to customise your "Trooper's" attribute stats to your own preferences, a very random game.

This game was organised by sign up on the day of the con.

I think it was mark who taught this game to me with two other experienced players joining in.

To be honest, I did badly at this game and only caught up by lucking out on a few VP cards that came out.

I did enjoy the game and would like to try again in the future.

I taught this game to 4 brand new players. So with my wife, we stretched the game to it's 6 player maximum.

This is a great game which relies on chaos through simultaneous action choosing. You have to try and protect your people and a part of the island while acting with other players (gods) to flood the island and drown everyone else.

Was supposed to be 45 mins, but took over an hour due to the large player count

got taught this game for a 6 player game.

First game went very fast as a event made all inventions half price.

In the second game, we all hunkered down and tried new ways to play. Was nice to enjoy the game at a slower pace.

Over all, a good fun game and quite simple

Full 5 player game of one of my early Knizia favourites. I hadn't played it for a few years, so was rusty on the rules. Hopefully Joff, Jason, Jacob and someone whose name didn't start with J mind too much. This is a game which needs one play just to understand what's going on, so people may have been somewhat confused until the end. By then everyone worked it out, and the last few provinces were interesting battles.

It maybe is showing it's age now (a 2000 release), but I still get something out of it.

Mark taught me and 2 others this game. A more detailed push your luck game like Incan Gold, it has a science fiction theme and more options to do on a turn. I quite enjoyed it and managed to come out with a win due to an equipment/whatever the equipment cards are called card. This is one I would like to play again.

Mark taught me and two others (or had the two others played before? I'm not sure) this game. I picked randomly and we played a first half of one of the beginner scenarios as Mark played the overlord. A combination of me being tired and not being overly enthused (especially given the hype I had heard about it) means that while I will play this game if everone else wants to play, I won't be suggesting it not playing in a campaign (although I am happy to fill in for someone).
