Your Best, Favourite or Most Creative Rethemes (Which are your Favourite?)

Theme is a much discussed topic in the world of board gaming. It is certainly not the only thing that matters and it’s not the most important thing, but, for me, it adds a lot to the games I play and love. But love it or hate it, or whether it matters to you or not, themes exist in board games and sometimes that theme can engage and add to the experience for some gamers. And sometimes a retheme is just what a board game needs to “bump it up a notch” and change the way you think and feel about a game.
I really admire the creative thought that goes into a great game retheme. Matching the theme to the mechanics of the gameplay can help explain the objectives of the game. Recreating a game inside a pre-existing world or genre appeals to the Fanboy in me and can help me relate to how the game plays. As a graphic designer, I appreciate a beautiful redesign that improves the look of the original game, and sometimes a retheme will just make a game that much more “cool” (and like beauty, coolness is in the eye of the beholder).
I’ll start this list with some of my favourites and may add more as I go along but please add your favourite board game rethemes to this GeekList. Feel free to add your own rethemes but if you add someone else's idea, please remember to give them credit.
