What is a Math Trade?
It is a way to trade games, and you don't have to do any math! Local no-ship math trades are especially nice because you don't have to pay for shipping. If you have never participated in a math trade before, you should probably read the BGG wiki page on math trades: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/math_trades or this geeklist: A 'Math Trade'? WTF is that?. Once you have a sense of what a math trade is, you might take a look at the Math Trade Video Tutorials to see what you actually have to do to participate.
Rules for THIS Math Trade
You agree to attend the actual in-person trade, or else make other arrangements that are acceptable to the person you are trading with. See below for ideas.
Here is the Discussion Thread, and it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you subscribe, as there may be important announcements. If you don't subscribe, at least check the thread a couple times in the day before each deadline.
You may list any number of boardgames or expansions (or bundles of boardgames and/or expansions), new or used. You must list the CONDITION (of box and components), LANGUAGE, and EDITION of each game. Additional details are always helpful.
If you need to change your item listing: First, don't delete any items from the geeklist. If you want to withdraw the item, edit it to note that it has been withdrawn, and be sure to submit a blank wants list for it. If you want to add "sweeteners" or clarify the description in ways that make the item BETTER, feel free to do so. However, if you need to clarify the description in a way that anyone might feel makes it WORSE, withdraw the item instead, and re-add it as a new item with the correct description.
You may list up to 3 non-boardgame items (e.g. accessories, DVD's, video games, etc.). These may be freely added as sweeteners to boardgame items if you wish.
If you list Gift Certificates or Geek Gold, you may not use the "Copies" feature, and you are limited to 3 entries per the rule above. This is intended to be a TRADE, not a flea market. GC and GG cannot be used as "sweeteners" within a game listing.
If you are listing an incomplete game, please use the special BGG game entry named "Outside the scope of BGG". Then describe what you are offering. If you are offering a bundle of multiple games, you can either list it under one of the game titles (with other games as "sweetners"), or use "Outside the scope" and list the games you are offering as this single package.
It is also STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you subscribe to any items you add to the geeklist, to be aware if people post questions. Also, please check your geekmail regularly, in case the moderator or another trader has questions for you.
You must use the OLWLG ( http://bgg.activityclub.org/olwlg/ ) to submit your want lists. Note that if you have previously submitted items to a different math trade, or if your BGG collection is up to date with Trade Condition text, the OLWLG allows you to easily post those items to this trade (but double-check that the description is complete and accurate!).
8pm EDT on Monday May 6 is the deadline for adding your items that you want to trade. Keep in mind that adding items to the geeklist does not obligate you in any way. Please try to review your items on Monday in case there are any last-minute questions
8pm EDT on Monday, May 13 is the deadline for submitting your want lists. Submitting want lists DOES obligate you to go through with whatever trades the system comes up with (from among the ones you agreed to in your want lists).
2pm EDT on Sunday, May 19 at GXE Games is the official in-person trade. You must attend, or make other arrangements. See below for details
After the results are published, please wait for them to be declared "official". They will become official unless the moderator made a serious error, or if there are items in the trade that violate the rules above. Once the results are official, you are obligated to follow through with the trades that you agreed to, even if you made a mistake and don't want to do so.
The Official Trade Event at GXE
GXE is located at 2501 NW 17th Lane, Unit A, Pompano Beach, FL 33064. Their phone number is 954-591-8855. They are in an industrial building, so can be a bit tricky to find at first.
GXE is hosting open boardgaming on the 19th from at least noon until 5pm, so you can attend the trade AND get some good gaming in. You are also free to bring additional games that didn't trade in the math trade, and try to make side trades with other people there. No sales, however, please. GXE is happy to support trading, but since they sell games themselves, they prefer not to see private sales going on at the store. One loophole would be to buy GXE Gift Certificates and trade those (instead of direct cash) for games.
If you are in Palm Beach or Miami-Dade, or if you just can't make it on Sunday, there are probably people who would be willing to pick up your games on the 14th-16th, do the official trade on the 19th, and then bring your new games to you on the 21st-23rd. If you get lucky, your trades might be with folks in your area. You are free to make any alternate arrangements you wish, as long both people involved in that link of the trade agree to it. Note that you will probably be giving a game to one person and receiving the corresponding game from someone else, so you'll have to make arrangements on both sides (or else just attend GXE on the 19th).
If anyone wants to drive in from Orlando or from SW Florida, we might be able to put together a gaming event on Saturday as well, to turn it into a whole weekend gaming event, helping to justify the long drive. If you are interested, please post ideas or questions in the discussion list.
If you have some spare GeekGold, it is customary to tip those who made the math trade possible. In this case, I would prefer that you not tip me, and instead direct any GG toward either JeffyJeff (who wrote and maintains the OLWLG) or cokasaki (who revolutionized math trades by writing TradeMaximizer, the software that actually calculates the trade chains).
