There were lots of new faces as gamers regular and new played games familiar or for the first time. I remember looking around to see everyone (seemingly) happily engrossed in a game, whether to risk dominating the world, fighting it out in Westeros or harvesting bean fields.

Add what you played and see what else was played.

Richard and I started with this classic game that neither of us had played in some time. The two player game had a different feel than three or four, and it was good to play this again. I managed a win 135 to 128.

Richard and I were joined by Jaime in her first WABA meet. She brought her big box of Dominion which had the base game, Alchemy and Prosperity. A random setup saw 9 base cards and 1 prosperity card, and this game had Richard easily winning 45 to my 17 and Jaime's 11.

Steve joined us for a four player game in his first Dominion game. A random setup saw a prosperity card first, many 4 cost cards and the threats of Militia and Thief mitigated by the Moat. I used a Bishop strategy to both thin out my deck and get victory point counters to win on 45 over Richard on 35, Steve in his first game on 19 and Jaime on 18.

Grug taught Misha, Dean and I this set collection based game. In it, players are working to get to 20 points by trying to collect sets of roles to trade them in for points. Playing various roles in a turn allows things to happen, such as stealing other people's roles, playing another role immediately from your hand or gaining a role from the discard pile.

For what it was, it wasn't too bad, although I can see some games lasting too long if people play particularly nastily. At the end, Misha took the win on 22 over me on 17, Dean on 16 and Grug on 14.

Eric, Mark and myself sat down to play our round 1 match in WABA's A Game of Thrones LCG Tournament (see http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/959260/wabas-a-game-of-thron...).

I borrowed a Starke Tully deck from Eric, Eric played a Baratheon deck and I can't remember what Mark played (Martell?). It came down to one turn and despite Eric and I doing our best, we couldn't prevent Mark getting to 15, with Mark winning on 15/15 and Eric and I drawing on 3/15 each. Despite having no chance of winning (not through the deck, but through my own general ineptitude in this game), I enjoyed it and would encourage others to learn it.

OK, so this is cheating - I didn't get to the WABA meeting on Saturday. But I have a good excuse - it was my birthday, and the family got together for lunch followed by a game - so I was at WABA in spirit.

Introduced the family (there are seven of us) to Citadels - it's quite hard to find good seven-person games. The explanation was a bit rocky, with one daughter not focussing very well. But once we got playing, people got into the swing of things. And they were polite enough to let me win. And they were happy to suggest another game of Citadels in the future. So the afternoon was most successful.

I started the day teaching a group of people that were new to Thebes all about rubble, dirt and the frustration of being an archeologist.

Eric, Mark, Renato, Rudolf and I played the first of our 15 game campaign of Risk Legacy.

We had a few rules issues and got homework after the game to do in preparation for when we meet again.

The highlight of the game, and I speak on behalf of the others here, was me being eliminated twice during the game. The second time was at the game end, meaning I got to leave no evidence on the evolving board that I had played the game at all.

Renato won the game.

It is with some confidence that I can say it will be at least several games before he will even get to think he might win a game again.

I ran Helvetia with Misha, Dean and Juliet.

Juliet and Dean are very new to boardgames and maybe it was a step too early to run this game with them, I'm not sure, although everyone seemed to enjoy it?

Misha won, and said that he had to purchase a copy for himself, and I can't fault him - It's one of my very favourite games.

I initially didn't expect much from this card game, but it was surprisingly good fun. Thanks to Peter and his son Jules introducing us to this one.
