After not playing the game since I received it after a general bad feeling about the whole Kickstarter fiasco, last week I finally pulled this off the shelf and taught Ian and Tegan.

And I love the game again.

We started the day off today with a five player game, a number which I hadn't tried before.

This meant the pool was always really full (Though not always with what you wanted) and that the deck depleted really quickly.

I had a really slow start getting my engine going, but I tried a new tactic for me - Taking merchants on as clients and converting goods into the vault for points. This is an action I normally ignore (probably because it is kind of boring?) BUT I also managed to build the building that turned my merchants into wild cards. This didn't happen until right near the end of the game, but when it did, boom, boom, boom, I was making points hand over fist, and managed to come from what I am certain was last place into first in the last moments.

Ian came in a close second, and would have one had I not taken my turn immediately before he ended the game.

I then taught this new Setaphan Feld game to a different group (I'm sorry I moved around a lot more than usual, and don't remember exactly who played in all of the games, so I am going to be a bit vague with all of these).

This game actually has some similarities to Glory to Rome in the ways the cards are played and the powers they give (though not as wild as GtR).

It's a nice little game, moves fast and has tough decisions to make each turn. Feld has four games out this year, I've played the first three, and I think this will probably be the one that I get the most play out of.

Some great possible combos, and, like most of his games, a lot of possible areas to concentrate on.

Martin Wallace's take on Pandemic, though with an actual winner, and set in the Discworld.

It's a light family game. Much less chaotic than Ankh-Morpork, and it works well enough. We were constantly teetering on the brink of the game ending with all of us losing, though that isn't how it ended up.

Not sure if it has the staying power of Pandemic, though I do want to play it some more. We were too timid with the cards to begin with and that meant that maybe we weren't having as much variety/fun as we might have?

Man, it has been ages since I pulled this off the shelf, and I'm glad I did. It's such a fun little card game. The couple I taught it to loved it so much, they're already asking me how to get a copy.

Must make a point of getting it to the table more.

Especially to practice as I was embarrassingly far behind in last place.

Played a three player game of this, one of my favourite games of last year.

Very light in rules, but so much to think about. Tremendous game. Think Sim City: The Board Game.

Also, embarrassingly far behind in this one too.

Finally Guildhall.

We played with four, which I don't think is optimal (though, maybe if you invest some time into the game as a group and everyone plays fast?) but we all played quite quickly and the game didn't get bogged down.

I finished the day with a very satisfying win.

I arrived late but was able to quickly take a spot at a table of King of Tokyo. I played in a couple of games but my Have All Of The Cards strategy cards did not pay off.

I wait for this game to lose it's shine but it never really does. I just wish there was a way to mitigate the inevitable back and forth when the game comes down to the final two monsters.

After King of Tokyo we played a couple of games of this galactic empire deck-builder. This was the first play for everyone (and apparently for the collection as we had to punch out tokens and take cards out of shrinkwrap :o). The first game was a little shaky as we didn't really know what we were doing but the second flowed a lot more smoothly.

I really like the ideas in this game. The Role-Lead-Follow mechanic is interesting and it keeps you engaged with trying to out-guess what your opponents are doing. My only complaints are that there is little player interaction (somewhat typical of core deck-builder experiences and possibly improved in expansions) and that the game ends right when you get your engine going. This second point would probably go away a little the more you go into the game with some idea of what you're doing and you got your engine happening faster. It could also have just been that we were playing with the maximum player count.

All in all, a great deck-builder and one that I look forward to playing again in the future.

And finally, a team of superheroes (Legacy, The Visionary, The Scholar and Chrono-Ranger) took down La Capitan in an epic battle in Silver Gulch 1883. The first half of the game we were well and truly on the back foot with crew members shooting and poisoning us and The Timeship making everything run at double speed. Then La Capitan became Split Across Time and the portal to 1883 started to close and we figured we were really in trouble. We quickly settled into our characters grooves though and took out The Timeship, closed the portal, damaged her enough to flip her back from being Split Across Time, took out her crew and landed the killing blow (Which came from The Visionary redirecting La Capitan's damage back to herself!)

A fun win for us and my first play of Chrono-Ranger who's ability to fire off 1 or 3 tiny shots in a round combined with Legacy boosting everyone up was a powerhouse for taking out multiple crew targets.

And to top it all off I reconnected with the owner of the Sentinels set into which my Giant Sized Plague Rat card had accidentally been placed way back in August Thornlie. Now my giant rogues gallery is complete again. A fine Sentinels day all around!

Played a 4p of this with the same group. I kind of like this game, I personally think it is different and arguably better than 7 wonders in some respect, but I don't think anyone else at the table agree, because of the multiplayer solitaire aspect.

Still, I like this game. Christophe won by like 20/30 points.

Mal has left and Oliver joined as this is a game he was keen to play.

This is a gmae I've owned for close to a year but havn't played yet. Finally broke it out today. Oliver, Renato, Christophe and me climb the easier side of K2 in the sunny summer weather.

2 of us went a rush a climber strategy while the other two go up slowly in tandem. The whole higher you go less speace you got is really quite interesting, as there is quite a congestion at the top near the middle of the game.

Oliver won the game with the tandem strategy, as he got his climbers to the peak and the second highest spot when the game ended. I came second as I was one level low with my second climber, despite going to the top first, Christophe came third and Renato's climber trip and fell off the mountain somewhere along the way.

Renato and Christophe left, and Dean joined us for more games.

This cute little dexterity game is published by a board game cafe/publisher in HK, and I bought it while seeing relatives. Quick a cute game that has pig (or dogs) with 5 different characteristics. You start with a captain and have to find from a grid another pig that has one different characteristic (with the other 4 the same). Continue until you cannot find anymore.

I do enjoy this and I think this is a great kid game. Think Griffin games picked it up and publishing it in US/Aus as well.

Dean won, I came second for 1 mistake while Oliver came last for failing to spot extra pig quite a few times.

Jacob, me, Oliver and one more (cannot remember name sorry) played this. We played this last month and really enjoyed it, so play it again today. Oliver is the only new player. Last time it took us 2 hours to learn and play the game because of the overly complex and hard to understand rulebook, but this time the game is quite fast probably ~60minutes all up.

Still really like this game, hope to bring it out more. I came second with 33 points, Jacob and Oliver 3rd and forth.

After Glory to Rome our group split into two and Mal, Tegan, Christophe and myself played Mal's copy of this great new game from the designer of Caylus.

This is one of those games that gets you excited to start playing while you are only half-way through the rule book, because the ideas are so clever. It has a load of tough decisions, lots of interaction, and is really easy to learn.

I waited until about half way through the game to begin scoring points, but luckily was able to catch up in the last turn or two to come second place. I was too late to beat the steady scoring that Christophe had done throughout, and he won.

Everyone at the table really enjoyed it, and I can see this getting lots more plays in the future.

I put four epidemic cards in the deck, but in retrospect should have put more, as it turned out just a little too easy. I think everyone enjoyed it though!

For the last game before Jamie and Nik left, we played King of Tokyo. As per usual, I goaded everyone into ignoring points (AKA the coward's route) and thinking with their claws.

This tactic lasted about as long as it usually does for me and I was first out. I believe Nik won this one.

After dinner myself and Karl sat down for our scheduled rematch of this great LCG. Karl had refined his lodge deck from last Thornlie and I was trying out a Hastur deck. Similar to our last game, Karl got the jump on me in the early game and secured two story cards (of the three needed to win) pretty quickly. Once I got things going though, I was able to catch up and win, with Hastur himself turning up on the last turn to claim the winning story card. Great game with lots of twists and turns, including a sudden appearance of a monster so frightening, that Karl's butler not only went insane, but died on his way to the asylum
