Game Overview

The players are new employees in a car production factory. They will move around the various departments, helping to progress the design and manufacturing of cars, while gaining expertise in each department.

* Each turn (a day in the game), you will move your worker to a workstation of a different department. The movement order is left-to-right on the floor plan.

* After all players have moved, each worker will resolve its actions. Each workstation provides you with several action points, or Shifts, to perform actions in the department. To those, you can also add Shifts you've saved up in the Shift Bank.

* In each department you can either perform "regular" actions, or choose to advance on the training track, eventually unlocking new actions and benefits. You can also use books to train faster without spending your day shifts.

* In Kanban you will:
1. Collect car designs and car parts,
2. Produce cars in the assembly line,
3. Upgrade car parts,
4. Collect cars matching the upgraded parts in your garage for testing and scoring.

Upgraded designs and matching cars in your garages (tested designs) are the best point generator of the game.

* At several points in the game, triggered by collecting cars, there will be a special phase that scores you points: Meetings.

* Meetings will allow you to use Seats that you have collected to score various objective cards, called performance cards.

* At the end of each week, which lasts several turns (each turn is a workday), you will score points based on the cars you have in your garage and the upgrades all players have made to each model.

* The game also features the factory manager, Sandra.
She moves around the departments like the other players. In each department she performs an automatic action, and also audits the players' performance in that department.

* Players could either get bonus points, or be penalized for points, based on the game mode chosen.

Whenever Sandra reaches the last department, Administration, the end of the week is triggered.

* The game is over when enough meetings and weeks have passed.

* At the end of the game a final scoring takes place.

Kanban Factory

The Kanban board is divided in 5 main departments:

1. Testing & Innovation Department
2. Assembly Line Department
3. Logistics Department
4. Design Department
5. Administration Department

Each department has a different Symbol and comprises a main room and 2 Workstations.

(The workstations are labeled A to E
F is a special spot: Sandra's Desk).

6 and 7 are not departments where the players work:

6. Recycling

7. Human Resources
, which comprises the Certification Track and Shift Bank

The 2 roofs nestled between Recycling and HR are placeholders for Books and Voucher tiles.

The Workstations & the Shift Clocks

Each workstation is represented by a clock. Each clock depicts 3, 6, or 9 working hours, which is 1, 2, or 3 Shifts.
Each Shift represents 1 action.

Each department has 2 workstations: Four departments have a 2-shift and a 3-shift workstation, the other (Administration) has a 1-shift and a 2-shift workstation.
Most departments' workstations

In Administration, you can also find Sandra's Desk (a room with a circular space and a desk). Sandra is the factory manager. Here you can also find a place for the meeting marker (a waiting room with a square space).

Arriving at the factory

Choose the First Player at random, and then in clockwise order:

1. Place your Certification Meeple on one of the 4 spots in the 0 space of the Certification Track, to choose your starting position in the turn order only for the setup, and for picking actions in the first day.

2. Then receive the benefit printed on that spot. It may be a Shift to bank, a Book tile, or a Parts Voucher tile.

3. From first to last, starting with the player who chose the space farthest ahead on the track, each player takes both (at once):

4. A Design tile from Design Department ignoring the benefits printed on the board…
(during this round, players may even take Designs from the tops of the decks).

5. …and any one available Car Part from Logistics Department.

Place the collected items in the appropriate spaces on your Player Board.

6. At the end of this round, slide Design tiles to the right in order to fill the gaps, with tiles from the corresponding top and bottom decks on the left.

Logistics does not get refilled with car parts at this time.

Important Note: For the first Department Selection Phase of the game, the order in which you choose workstations is right-to-left on the Certification Track: the same order you've been using until now.

Tip: Try to get a Part you don't have on your Kanban cards and/or isn't currently in Recycling, or is in the upper-left corner of the Design you chose.
Choose a Design with a model that you see on the Performance Cards, or on the demand tiles in the Assembly Line Department.

The Round - A working day

Each round in this game represents one workday, and is divided in 2 phases:
The 1st phase at the start of the day is a worker moving phase, which the rulebook calls the Department Selection Phase.

The 2nd phase is the Working phase.

Both phases of the round are played from left-to-right on the floor plan.

In the Department Selection Phase, the player at the leftmost workstation is the 1st to move. The 2nd player from the left is the 2nd to move, and so on.

During the working phase, the same is true: The player at the leftmost workstation is the first to work, then the second, and so on….

Sandra, the factory manager (represented by the pink pawn), will also take part in both phases of the round, and will play somewhere in that order.

Tip: To play well in this game, you must have full knowledge of timing and turn order.

Phase 1 - Department selection
At this point all players' meeples must be lying down.
They are starting the day after a good night sleep.

For the first — and only the first Department Selection Phase, the order in which you choose workstations is right-to-left on the Certification Track.

From the second day through the end of the game, beginning with the player at leftmost workstation, from left-to-right on the floor plan, each player in turn must move his pawn to any empty workstation of another department. Sandra (the pink pawn) also does this (by her own AI) when we reach her in the player order.

Each workstation can only support one player's meeple. Since each department has two workstations, the limit of meeples per department is of course two, regardless of whether the meeples there are standing or lying down.

Take a look at the following example of this round phase:

Order of play in this example is Purple, Pink (Sandra - the Factory Manager), Orange, Blue, then Yellow.

Note that Purple can neither move to Department 4 (because it already has 2 meeples), nor stay in Department 1. So, Purple must move to Department 2, 3, or 5.

Purple, the first player in turn order, would like to move from the Innovation department (Dept. 1) to the 3-shift workstation at the Assembly Line (Dept. 2); however, he can't do it, because Sandra (pink meeple) is using that workstation. Purple has access only to the 2-shift workstation there. Realizing that the most efficient move for him right now would require at least 3 shifts, he decides to delay this move and instead takes the 3-shift workstation of another department, Logistics (Dept. 3), taking advantage of it being empty right now.

After ending his movement for the Selection Department Phase, he leaves his meeple standing up, waiting for the next phase of the day:

Now it's Sandra's (Pink meeple) turn. Sandra always moves from left to right into the first empty workstation of the following department, unless it's full (see Sandra's movement). The first empty workstation she finds is the 2-shift workstation in Logistics (Dept. 3). So, she moves there and stands ready to work:

Orange is next. He wants to work in Department 1, Testing and Innovation, but he needs to go first in order to get the best moves, and he is afraid that blue or yellow wants to work in the same department. The only way to make sure the he gets what he wants during the working phase is to choose the 2-shift workstation, so he goes first in that department, even as much as it pains him not to take the 3-shift workstation that is empty. Sometimes being able to act first is worth sacrificing an action!

Blue is next. Because Sandra moved before his turn, he has now access to the 3-shift workstation at the Assembly Line. He planned this well!

Yellow is last. She was planning this for some time, and she finally gets a space in what had been the most crowded department: Design (Dept. 4). At last she can get those precious designs!

Tip: Plan your moves well, remember that your position today will determine the order in which you get to choose your workstation in tomorrow's first phase.

Sandra's movement
Sandra plays in turn order, just like the players.

For the very first Department Selection Phase, when all players enter the factory, Sandra will go to her desk in Administration. In this very first day, Sandra has paperwork to deal with, so she will not act or when her first turn comes around just lay her down without doing anything else.

When it's her turn, Sandra moves to the first available workstation of the next department to her right. If both workstations are occupied, she skips over that department until she finds an available workstation, or her desk if nothing is available before Administration.

In the Administration Department (last one in the factory) she has her own desk, so she never uses the department workstations there.

From her desk, she starts back at the leftmost available space. In the example above she will move to the 3-shift workstation of the Dept. 2 (Assembly Line):

Tip: Be aware of Sandra's next movement, because she may jump over a lot of departments, making the workweek much shorter.

Phase 2 - Working
At this point all players' meeples must be standing up.
They will start their work shifts.

As in the previous round phase, this one is also resolved from left-to-right on the floor plan. In turn, all players must spend their shifts working in the departments they chose during Phase 1, The Department Selection phase.

* In each department there are one or more actions that may be taken by spending 1 or more shifts.

* To the number of shifts depicted on the chosen workstations, players may add shifts from the 'Shift Bank'.

But there is one restriction: No player may spend more than 4 shifts in a single day.

In the image below, Yellow and Blue have 3 shifts in the bank. Orange and Purple have none:

So, if you are at a 1-shift workstation, you can add up to 3 shifts from the Shift Bank. If you are at a 2-shift workstation, you can add up to 2 shifts from the Shift Bank. If you are in 3-shift workstation, as in the example below, you can add only 1 shift from the Shift Bank:

After you are done spending your shifts (taking your actions), lay your worker meeple down at its workstation; this makes it much easier to see who hasn’t moved their meeple yet during the next Department Selection Phase.

Important note: Players cannot choose to work less in order to bank shifts. If you don't spend your workstation shifts during the work phase, those shifts are wasted, and cannot be banked. Banked shifts are earned after the completion of certain tasks during game; those tasks bear the following "bank a shift" icon: (see Shift Bank)

"Bank a Shift" Symbol. It has a clockwise green arrow next to the clock. Look for it on the main board and your player board.

Tip: To succeed at this game is to use your shifts in the most productive way you can. If you are spending shifts without using them, you are not being efficient.

Remember: Your position on the floor plan during this phase, is also your player position in tomorrow's turn order during the next Department Selection Phase

Training in the Departments

Each department has its own training track.

When you work in a department, one of the actions available is training in that department.

Each stage of training requires 1 Shift to complete, and advances your marker up to the next desk.

If you reach the same desk as another player, stack your marker on top of his; for endgame scoring, you are considered to be ahead of him.

At the end of the game scoring, the player in front of each track gets 5 pp, the 2nd player receives 3 pp, and the 3rd player 1 pp. 4th player does not get anything.
You may find this scoring reminders printed on top or bottom of each training track.

Books of Knowledge

Some rewards during play allow you to earn Book tiles. You keep those on your player board.

You use a book by discarding the token from your board and increasing your training by 1 step in the department in which you are currently working.
This does not cost any shifts, and you can use as many of them as you want during your turn.

For example, your turn might go like this if you are spending your shifts in Logistics:
1. Use 3 books to train in Logistics. This makes you certified (see below);
2. Use your 3 shifts in Logistics to take parts;
3. Use a banked shift to take one more action in Logistics to take a Parts voucher (a special action unlocked because you are certified);
4. Decide to use another book to train more.

Getting Certifications

Once you get past the 3rd stage of training in a department, you will be certified in that department.

This typically unlocks a new portion of your player board, and some certifications provide a benefit within the department itself. (see Department Certifications)
When this happens, you discard the lock tile from the matching portion of your board.

Note: You may want to keep these discarded locks near your board. It helps to keep track of how many you already unlocked, and how many are still locked.

* Administration (Dept. 5) is an exception: You unlock one more chair space at the conference table:

* When you get a certificate, you immediately choose a benefit in the next step of the Certification Track in Human Resources. Move your certification meeple to an empty space, and get the benefit. Only one player is allowed per certification space.

Note: looking at the position of your meeple on this track will help you to track how many certifications you have. Also check the lock tiles you discarded next to your board, because you may have forgotten to advance in certification and get a benefit!

One other advantage of certification is that during Meetings the most certified player is the first to play.

In the above example, the order of play for the next meeting will be Orange, Blue, Purple, then Yellow.

Tip: Being certificated earlier in game, gives you the advantage of choosing the benefit space in the certification track. It also grants you access to the factory goal Seats related with certification.

Department Certifications

Once you get past the 3rd stage of training in a department, you will be certified in that department.

Every department gives you a permanent benefit when you get the certification for that department:
Look for the department symbol on your board or elsewhere in the department itself.

Testing & Innovation (Dept. 1):
Unlocks the double-upgrade space on your player board:

When you upgrade a Part for a Model (see department - actions), you may choose to put the Design tile on this space instead of next to your board:

The Design Value of that Part increases twice, instead of once.
Immediately score pp equal to the Car Part’s new value.
Use the icon printed above the space to remind you about this mechanism.

In the above picture, the player performed a double upgrade of the chassis in the black model. In doing so, he immediately advances the value of the part two spaces, and scores 3 points (the new value of the part) in addition to the usual 2 for the upgrade.

Restriction: You can only do this once per game, with only one Design, and no two players may double-upgrade the same type of Car Part. This means that, each part can only be double-upgraded once per game. If you already upgraded a Chassis using the double-upgrade space, no one else can use Chassis Design to double-upgrade any other model.

Assembly Line (Dept. 2):
Unlocks the 5th garage on your board. When you park a car there (see claim cars action), choose any two different, single benefits from those depicted. (e.g. 1 Seat and 1 Shift; or 1 Book and 1 Parts Voucher)

If you are playing the expert side of the player board, claim a Seat.

Logistics (Dept. 3):
Unlocks the 6th space for Car Parts on your board.

Grants you access to the "Get a Parts Voucher" action: While working in this department, you may now spend one shift to take a part voucher onto you board. You can only do this once per turn.

Design (Dept. 4):
Unlocks 1 extra blueprint space on your desk…

…and allows you to take the designs from anywhere in the Design Department:

Taking designs from these decks gives you access to Cutting-Edge Designs. Whenever you take the last Design from the leftmost decks of the top or bottom row, immediately fill the space with the top Design from the ‘Central’ deck.

You will remember this because you will see this symbol printed in the design space.

Administration (Dept. 5):
Unlocks a 5th seat space for you at the conference table. Now you can have up to 5 seats so you can speak 5 times during meetings.

Tip: The order, and timing you choose for getting the different certificates during game plays a big part in your strategic thinking.

Become an expert

Even after you are certified in a department, you may continue to train until you become an expert; i.e. until you reach the final space of the department’s training track (the red desk).

The first person to become an expert gets the red Seat from the top of the track, and also one of the Award Plaques of his choice.

The players who arrive afterwards don't get a red seat, but they still take one of the remaining tiles of their choice.

To select an Award Plaque, take all the remaining tiles, choose the one you want, and return the rest face-down to the space without revealing them.

Then receive the reward on the plaque and discard the tile.

The available awards are:

Bank a shift

Get a Parts
Voucher tile

Get a Book tile

Gain 2pp

You still need to wait for the next day to use the taken benefits. (Except for the pp, those you can score immediately).

Tip: Remember that at the end of the game the player in the highest position in each track gets 5pp. If there are multiple players at the same position, the one on top of the stack (last one to arrive) is considered in front.

Sandra - the Factory Manager

Kanban features Sandra, the factory manager. She will review players' performance and keep the factory on tempo.

Before you start playing, you must choose her mode of play (nice or mean). But in both modes, when is her turn, Sandra will:
1. Evaluate one or more players' progression on the training track of the department where she is;
2. Checking pre-determined requirements to reward or penalize those players;
3. And take a pre-determined action in the Department.

Depending on the gameplay experience you desire, you can choose to play with the Nice manager (the rulebook comments are in the green boxes) or the Mean manager (the rulebook comments are in the red boxes); When Sandra’s comments apply to both modes, comments will be inside a white box.

Notice that depending on your choice you start with a different number of pp.

You may also notice differences in her appearance and countenance.

Tip: Keep an eye on the factory manager’s next move.
If the factory manager skips a department, the game may be one day shorter. This movement may end the game suddenly. Be aware.

Playing with Nice Sandra

Start with 0 pp on the score track.

Playing with Nice Sandra: (Easy "Mood") This mode of play is easier and less demanding. 1st-time players may want to use it.

When it's her turn, Sandra:
1. Is going to inspect the player(s) farthest along the training track in the department she's in. (Stacking order only matters for endgame scoring).

In the figure, only Orange and Blue players will be inspected.

Note: If all the players are still in the start position of the training track, there is no reward.

2. If they meet Sandra's requirements in that department, she will check the number of Shifts they’ve banked in the Shift Bank, and reward the most trained player(s) with 1 pp for each Shift banked.

In the figure, Orange and Blue will receive 2 and 4 pp, respectively. Yellow will get nothing because he had not trained as much as Orange and Blue in that department. Yellow just lost an opportunity of scoring 5 pp.

3. Then, Sandra takes her Department action; finish her turn by laying her meeple down.

Requirements to receive pp reward in each department:
(use player aid during game)

Testing and Innovation (Dept. 1)

Have at least 2 upgraded designs (upgraded side). Double Upgrade counts as one Design.

Assembly Line (Dept. 2)
Have at least 2 cars on your garage.

Logistics (Dept. 3)
Have at least 2 Car Parts (cubes) in your board.

Design (Dept. 4)
Have at least 2 designs (blueprint side) on your board.

Administration (Dept. 5)
Have at least 2 certifications.

Tip: Keep an eye on the factory manager’s next move. She may reward you with a lot of points during the game, if you are attentive.

Playing with Mean Sandra

Start with 15 pp on the score track. Yes, that's an omen: You can lose points!

Playing with the Mean Sandra: (Hard "Mood") This mode of play is more demanding. During the first half of the game, players usually try to adapt to Sandra's movements in order to avoid losing pp.
If you are already familiar with the game, or have experience with complex games, go ahead. As the creator of this mechanism, my preference leans to the this mode of play. It delivers a much more challenging game, and the best overall experience in further plays.

When its her turn, Sandra:
1. Is going to inspect who has trained the least in that department (i.e. whoever has made the least progress on that training track), especially if they haven’t even started. (Stacking order only matters for endgame scoring).

In the example, Yellow, Orange, and Purple will be inspected.

2. If they do not meet Sandra's requirements, she will check to see how many Shifts they’ve banked in the Shift Bank, and penalized those players 1 pp for each Shift fewer than 5 they have banked.

In the figure, Yellow will not lose any pp (5−5), but Orange loses 3 pp (5−2). Blue is not worried because he trained a bit more than the others and he is out of the inspection.

Note: If the players are still in the start position of the training track, the penalty is applied to all of them.

3. Then Sandra takes her Department action; finish her turn by laying her meeple down.

You get penalized if you:
(use player aid during game)

Testing and Innovation (Dept. 1)
Have 2 or fewer upgraded designs (upgraded side).

Assembly Line (Dept. 2)
Have 2 or fewer cars on your garage.

Logistics (Dept. 3)
Have 2 or fewer Car Parts in your board.

Design (Dept. 4)
Have 2 or fewer designs (blueprint side) on your board.

Administration (Dept. 5)
Have 2 or fewer certifications.

Tip: You always have at least 3 ways to avoid the Factory manager when playing in the Mean "mood":
1. Don’t be in last position on the training tracks,
2. Have at least 5 Shifts in the Shift Bank,
3. Meet her minimum requirements.

Sandra's Actions

When is her turn, Sandra's actions will be the same in both modes of play (Nice or Mean):
1. Just like the reward and penalty triggers, her actions are pre-determined by the department in which she is working.
2. Her actions are always executed after the Evaluation has been made, and the reward or penalty has been applied.

Testing and Innovation (Dept. 1)
Advance the Pace Car 1 step further.

This action will speed up the meetings trigger.

Assembly Liner(Dept. 2)
Clear Car Parts from all assembly spaces.

This action may force you to adapt your assembling plans.

Logistics (Dept. 3)
Remove all but 1 Car Part from each warehouse.

No waste is allowed in Kanban. Such reduction of stocks to the minimum may force you to re-think your Kanban orders.

Design (Dept. 4)
Return the oldest 4 (8 in a 2-player game) tiles to the ‘Central’ deck (leftmost deck), and shuffle it. Then, slide all tiles to the right and fill the gaps with tiles from the deck. (see Design Department - Action: Select a Design).

This is a big change of plans in the factory design path. It will force you to adapt in a brutal way. Be aware, and plan for it.

Administration (Dept. 5)
Advance the Week marker, and evaluate your End-of-Week scoring as follows:

For each car in your garage:
• Earn 2 pp for each upgrade you made to that Model.
• Earn 1 pp for each upgrade someone else made to that Model.

The clock is ticking, and you don't want to lose your pace. This scoring may seem low, but you should not underestimate its power.

Tip: Sandra's actions can help or disrupt your strategy, so be aware of her next move.

Test & Innovation Department - Action: Claim Cars

When you are working in this department, you can:
1. Claim cars from the Test Track, taking them into your garage for final testing;
and/or
2. Deliver Car Parts and Designs, to Upgrade the models with innovative Parts. (click to see this chapter)

Every time you see this symbol in the board you know it is an action:

Action: Claim Cars
Time spent - a variable number of Shifts per claimed car - (See point 2 on this section).

This is the Claim Car action symbol:
To claim a car, you must have a Selected Design on your desk that depicts the Model you want. Does not matter whether it has a part depicted on it.

In this picture, the player may Claim a Yellow model car and/or a Green model car.

This is how you claim cars:

1. Return the Selected Designs, which depict the Models you want, from your Player Board to the bottom of the ‘Central’ deck. (you must use one Design per car, even if the cars are the same color).

2. According to their initial positions before claiming the first car, spend the appropriate number of Shifts to take the matching cars from behind the Pace Car:

• The 1st car behind the Pace Car requires 1 Shift.
• The 2nd car behind the Pace Car requires 2 Shifts.
• The 3rd car behind the Pace Car requires 2 Shifts.
• The 4th car behind the Pace Car requires 3 Shifts.

In the above situation, the red car will cost the player one shift to claim, the green and the yellow cars will cost 2 shifts each. Since he has a green and a Yellow design on his desk, he may claim both cars. That would cost him 4 shifts.

3. Advance the Pace Car a number of spaces along the Test Track equal to the number of cars you took.

In this case, the player decided only to take the green car. This made the pace car advance only 1 space. If he had taken both cars, the pace car would have advanced 2 spaces.

4. Advance the other cars to close the gaps behind the pace car. After doing this, you cannot claim any more cars today.

5. Place each car in any empty garage of your choice on your Player Board, and receive the benefit depicted on each garage you filled.

The player chose the garage that gives him a benefit of 2 books. He moves those books from the supply to the proper place of his player board.

Note: Be polite to your opponents: Because choosing a garage may take some time, keep your claimed car(s) next to your Player Board until the end of your turn. Only then proceed with the last step.

At the end of the week, and at the end of the game, cars in your garage will be worth pp. (See End-of-Week scoring, and Final Scoring).

No More Garages

If you already have all 5 of your garages occupied, then and only then, you can replace an old car, returning it to the supply; however, you don’t get to take the garage’s benefit again.

Meeting Time

When the Pace Car reaches or crosses the next checkered space, a Meeting is schedule for the end of the day.

In the 4-player games you have 5 track spaces between each meeting;
In the 3-player games you have 4 track spaces between each meeting;
In the 2-player games you have 3 track spaces between each meeting.

Move the Meeting token from the Test Track to the Administration Department as a reminder (See Meetings).

Tip: Keep in mind that the number of cars you take may trigger the next meeting and maybe the end of the game. Sometimes it can be a hard decision to make.

Test & Innovation Department - Action: Upgrade a Design

When you are working in this department you can:
1. Claim cars from the Test Track, taking them into your garage for final testing; (click to see this chapter)
and/or
2. Deliver Car Parts and Designs, to Upgrade the models with innovative Parts.

Upgraded designs and matching cars in your garages ( tested designs ) are the best point generators of the game.

Action: Upgrade a Design
Time spent - 1 shift per upgrade

Look for this symbol in the department:

• You can use Recycling and/or spend a Parts Voucher to take the Part from the supply, instead of a cube from your board.

To upgrade the Design of a Part in a Model, you must have a Selected Design depicting both the Model and the Part, and you must have the Car Part (cube) itself:

1. Spend 1 Shift to move the Car Part from your Player Board to any empty Upgrade Space for that Model in Innovation.

• Receive the benefit depicted in the Upgrade Space you filled (if any is depicted).

2. Increase the Car Part’s value one step. (The first upgrade moves it into the first space, and the highest value is 6).

3. Flip the Selected Design over to show the Upgraded Design, which depicts the upgraded Part in the car. Place the Upgraded Design to the right of your Player Board and earn 2 pp (indicated on the Upgraded Design side of the tile).

Tested Designs

Any Upgraded Design you have is considered to be a Tested Design if you have a matching car in your garage.

Tested Designs scores you pp at the end of each week, and at the end of the game!

A Tested Design scores differently for End-of-Week Scoring, and Final Scoring:

• End-of-Week Scoring:
You get pp for testing upgrades of the factory Models (see example on page 14).

• Final Scoring:
You get pp based on the Car Part value of your tested Designs (see example on page 15).

Click here to see the Certification benefits of this department.

Tip: Upgraded Designs without a matching car in your garage don't generate many pp.

Assembly Line - Action: Provide Needed Parts

When you are working in this department you can:
Provide the Parts needed to complete assembly of cars, and watch them roll down the line!

First: Clean Out Assembly Spaces

At the start of your turn in this department, you must:
1. Empty all of the filled Assembly Spaces. * Ignore any Models whose Assembly Spaces are not filled.

2. Return those Car Parts to the supply.

Action: Provide Needed Parts
Time spent - 1 shift per part provided

Look for this symbol in the department:

• You can use Recycling and/or spend a Parts Voucher to take the Part from the supply, instead of a cube from your board.

Your delivery of the necessary Parts, allows the Assembly Line to keep moving.

1. Spend 1 Shift to move a Car Part from your Player Board to an Assembly Space for a Model.

* The Car Part must differ from any others currently in the Model’s Assembly Spaces.

* If the Model has had any of its Parts upgraded (see Testing & Innovation - Action: Upgrade Parts), you must provide all the upgraded Parts first; however, the order does not matter.

In the above case the player must place the turbo (orange) and the suspension (yellow) before placing any of the other parts.

In this case, the assembly spaces of this model already has all the upgraded parts. So, you may place any other part you want, since its different.

2. Move the car at the top of this Model’s Assembly Line one position along the arrows. pushing the next car along the path of your choice (respecting the arrows), and so on, until no further cars can be displaced.

3. Place a new car of this Model from the supply at the beginning of this line. If the top space of the line is empty, and there are no more cars of that Model to place, no more Parts can be placed in that line’s Assembly spaces, until a new car from the testing track is available.

Click here to see the Certification benefits of this department.

Tip: Assemble more than one car at a time; that will grant you pp, Seats and better choices, but beware about your opponents strategy. They may want the same cars as you.

A Car Rolls off the Line

When a car reaches the end of the line, its assembly is complete, and it rolls onto the Test Track.
1. You receive 1 or 2 pp, depending on which conveyor delivered the car.

2. Move the car to the first empty space behind the Pace Car on the Test Track.

Only 4 cars plus the Pace Car can be on the Test Track at once. This rule is independent of the number of players.

So, each time a 5th car enters the Test Track, remove the car directly behind the Pace Car, and Shift the others forward to fill the gap. Return the removed car to the supply.

If that car is needed in the line, place it in the top of the convoyer immediately.
That belt is available to assembling again.

Click here to see the Certification benefits of this department.

Tip: Assembling cars is a good pp generator, but the most important thing is to assemble the right ones at the right time.

Logistics Department - Action: Issue Kanban Order

When you are working in this department you can:
1. Stock the warehouses with a Kanban order, if you need to.
2. Collect the Car Parts you need. (see Action: Collect Car Parts)

The Assembly Line uses the Car Parts to complete cars.
Noticice the door linking Logistics with Assembling line.

Innovation can upgrade that Part in a Model.
Notice the door linking Logistics with Innovation.

Action: Issue Kanban Order
Time spent - 1 shift for playing a Kanban card, then Bank 1 shift in the Shift Bank

Look for this symbol in the department:

You may issue only 1 Kanban Order per day.

1.
Select a Kanban Order from your hand.

2. Position the Kanban Order on the Kanban space horizontally such that 4 of its symbols are on one side of the line, and 2 are on the other. You choose how to place the card.

3. For each symbol that matches a warehouse on its side of the line, you must add 1 Car Part to the appropriate warehouse from the general supply.

In the example you must supply to the mattaching warehouses:
* 1 chassis (black cube)
* 2 Transmissions (blue cube)
* 1 Brake (white cube)
* the engine and the Turbo, don't match with their own warehouse.

4. Return your Kanban Order to the bottom of the deck and draw another one.

Click here to see the Certification benefits of this department.

Tip: Sometimes to supply the most parts into the factory, is not the best solution, since you may leave a lot of parts to your opponents.

Logistics Department - Action: Collect Car Parts
In Logistics there are 6 warehouses, 3 on the left and 3 on the right.

When you are working in this department you can:
1. Stock the warehouses with a Kanban order, if you need to. (see Action: Issue Kanban Order)
2. Collect the Car Parts you need.

The Assembly Line uses the Car Parts to complete cars.
Notice the door linking Logistics with Assembling line.

Innovation can upgrade that Part in a Model.
Notice the door linking Logistics with Innovation.

Action: Collect Car Parts
Time spent - 1 Shift per type of Car Part you want

Look for this symbol in the department:

• You can use Recycling to exchange the Part from the supply. This move has no cost.

1. Take ANY NUMBER of Car Parts from each of those warehouses.
* You must have an available space on your Player Board for each Car Part you take.
* You cannot discard Parts from your board.

In the example above the player spent one shift, and took all transmission parts from the transmission warehouse. But he could decided to take only one or two.

2. Place the collected Car Parts on your Player Board.

In the example above the player had space for all taken transmission parts. If he did not had space to place them, he must leave the excess parts in the warehouse.
He could not discard any parts. And the only way of changing them is using Recycling.

Design Department - Action: Select a Design

When you are working in this department you will produce designs to upgraded Parts, and to Claim cars into your garage for testing. Upgraded designs and matchingcars in you garage are the biggest points generators of the game.

You will take the Designs you select to Testing & Innovation Department.
Notice the door linking Design with Testing & Innovation.

Most of Designs depict a Car Part upgrade that Innovation can make, others have nothing in the top left;

These designs allow to Claim cars or Upgrade the suspension of Green and Red models.

However, all Designs allow you to claim the depicted car from the test track. (See Testing & Innovation Department - Action Claim Cars).

These designs allow to Claim a Red and a Green cars into your garage for testing, but they don't upgrade any part of those models.

Action: Select a Design
Time spent - 1 Shift per design taken

Look for this symbol in the department:

To take a Design to your Player Board, you must:

1. Take a design tile from one of the 8 rightmost spaces from the display;
* You must have an available space on your Player Board for each Design you take;

2. Place the selected Designs on the desk on your Player Board.
* You cannot discard designs from your desk spaces.

3. Once you have finished spending your Shifts here, slide all Designs in both rows to the right to fill any gaps. Place new Design tiles from the top and bottom decks, on vacant spaces of the same row.

When any of those decks is depleted, fill empty spaces with tiles from the ‘Central’ Deck. If both are exhausted first fill the top row, then the bottom.

In the example above:
1. Move the blue and the green Cars at the top row, one spaces to the right. If the top deck is depleted, fill the gap with a tile from the 'Central deck' (leftmost deck).
2. Move the black and the red Cars at the bottom row, two spaces to the right.
3. Fill the empty spaces with 3 designs from the 'Central Deck' (leftmost deck).

Well-Researched Designs

Taking Designs from the rightmost 4 spaces of the display gives you one of the following benefits:

1. A Shift banked in the Shift Bank; advance one space to the right with your disc;

2. A Book from the supply, to allow you to train without spending a Shift.

In the example the player took the bottom Design of the Book Column. This immediately give him one Book tile to use in a following turn.

Remember, you get all benefits at the end of the workday, and can’t use them until the next day!

Getting Certification in this department, unlocks the 5th Design space on your board and grants you access to the three tiles on the top of the 3 Design decks.
Click here to see the Certification benefits of this department.

Tip: Its crucial for you that all designs you take have use. Don't waste your move.
