It's been close to two years since my first play of this game, which I really enjoy. The rule book is a mess (notoriously so) but with a reformatted and rewritten rulebook from the files section, the game is fairly easy to play. (Though we had a few occasions to scour the rulebook, or search BGG for answers)

So anyway, I taught this to Mal and Pete, and was joined by Brian* (Not sure if it was his first WABA event or just the first time I had met him) who had played before.

Players each run fashion companies, hire employees, managing contracts, designing and construct clothes to show at fashion shows each season.

I was TERRIBLE this play. Looking back to when I used to record such things, I won last time though.

Brian won, with Pete in second I think.

Great fun. Glad to get it back to the table.

*Brian was happy to find a heavier game on offer and was hoping to play an 18XX game at Thornlie if he could find takers. So if that's a thing that interests you, track him down.

When Mal asked to play this, and we were tossing up between playing Pret and Nations, I said we had to make it a dress-making-double.

So I taught this KSDJ nominee to Mal, Pete, Brian and Tim(K).

This is much lighter - a take on deck building (Sort of. More hand building? Deck management?) and resource management and area control.

Collect materials to match dress design and then place them in the halls.

It's a fun game, but I understand it's better with four than five, and I haven't managed to play a game with less than five yet! People see that beautiful board and they just want to play. ;P

There's a little too much chaos with more players, it's very difficult to plan ahead.

Brian won again.

Next we played something far lighter. this game was originally published as Don with a mafia theme. It was republished with a merchants in Africa theme. Not that theme matters at all.

In the end, players are bidding on cards, trying to collect sets. The most interesting twists are that when you win cards, they sit in front of you and have a number on them. If you own the number 7 and you make a bid of 7, 17, 27 etc, you pay a penalty of $1 and rebid.

Also if someone else wins with a number you have in front of you, they pay you instead of the bank.

At the end you score sets of colours n a similar way to Coloretto.

This is a favourite filler of mine, especially when people make a mistake a bid their own number.

This was my only win of the day.

Another light, theme doesn't matter game.

Mal taught this to Pete, Tim and I.

You are taking gems to trade for cards that either grant you points, extra gems or both.

Fast and fun, I like this filler for sure.

Mal won this just ahead of Pete and I.

Finally Tim and Pete, first timers, joined Tegan and I for our second play of this fantastic game.

It's worker placement where every player has tiles, each with four possible actions on them and several available workers. You secretly stand three tiles in a holder (like a scrabble tile holder sort of thing) and place the number of workers behind it that you want to take the action.

Then you reveal them, and execute the action one at a time, hoping that a) you correctly planned ahead and b) no one interferes with your plans.

It was my favourite of the day, and if I ever made such a list, I think it would be in my top ten games, I love it so much.

It plays fast, and it has a lot of challenge in that short time.

I didn't win, however, it was Tim that won, even though he had a couple of rounds where he miscalculated and wasted actions.

Wez, Maggie and I sat down to do a three player play test of my game design.

Things went better than before with the game actually holding up. We eventually got through half a year before calling it and having a debrief session.

More work to be done

My Partner (Aloishe) and I played the introductory quest with Mage Knight first timers Russell and Adam. Russell stomped forth hard from the onset and secured an early lead only to fall behind in subsequent rounds. Towards the end game it was looking like i was going to win as i overtook on the fame track.

Russell on his last turn entered an adventure site (i forget which type) and killed the enemy within, securing him about 8 victory points(fame) between the fame and the end game achievement for greatest adventurer. That was enough to secure him a victory after taking into account that i lost 2 fame for having a single wound in my deck and a further 3 lost fame for receiving the biggest beating... or the lightest scratch as Russell liked to put it.

Everyone enjoyed the game and were looking forward to playing a longer campaign in the future.

First up I taught Greg this fantastic card game, and Tegan played too. Tegan got off to an early start on her Vault that we couldn't catch up on, although the game went for way longer than usual, meaning everybody had pretty powerful building powers by the end of the game. The game ended with the deck running out (not too common in a three player game) and Tegan won by a pretty hefty margin. I ended up very convincingly last.
