To start, Tegan, Karl, Daniel and myself played this great SDY nominee. This was my third play and it keeps getting better and better. Unfortunately Daniel had to leave before we concluded the game, but we weren't far from finishing so we continued with three players. I ended up winning this one with a lot of points for specific building types (Minerva cards).

Next up we were joined by Matt, and played this GREAT euro about being an Art Nouveau artisan. It's pretty confusing to learn, as they've managed to cram almost every euro mechanism into this design, but one turn in it all starts to click. Matt took to it very quickly and got some scoring multipliers early, whereas I floundered about trying to find a strategy. Tegan concentrated on building early on, and got a ton of points both during the game and at the end. She also managed to claim a lot of the profitable centre spaces on the Art Nouveau board for her buildings, restricting what everyone else was able to do without giving her substantial benefits. Tegan ended up winning, I came dead last.

Next I jumped into a five player game of this while Tegan, Matt and Karl went out for dinner. I've been wanting to play this again for a long time (my own copy is still unplayed). Russell, Nick, Sandra and Time were setting up and I jumped into the last slot. This was the second time playing that day for Russell and Sandra, and I believe for Nick as well.

We decided to play a medium length game (about three hours I think). I won the first bid for turn order (which is REALLY important in this game) and continued to be first for all but one turn. This gave me a lot of advantages when it came to the crises, as I was able to use the market resources rather than my own, and make people give me stuff to reactivate their workers.

People were mostly pretty transparent about what they were focussing on (the game features hidden scoring conditions for each player, and every player scores every condition when they are revealed at the end) but I was the only one constantly checking the possible cards.

In the end Sandra's end game condition triggered (seven chapels on the board). I ended up winning with 11 points.

I really like this game and think it will only get better with experience, can't wait to play again.

Next Nick, Tim, Sandra and myself played one of my favourite games. Nick and Tim had played before but were a bit rusty. I made some really poor decisions early on and didn't get the cards to correct it, so I didn't do very well. Nick ended up winning I think.

It was getting pretty late, and while another table played The Builders and Sail to India, myself and Nick played four games of this simple two player deck builder.

I had heard good things about it and picked it up on a whim about a month ago. Since then it's come up a lot on podcasts etc. so it seems to be pretty popular. I really liked it, it's quick to get into, each faction (and blend of factions) plays differently, it was really good fun. I think Nick won three and I won one.

You can expand it to three or four players with another deck so I think I'll pick one up when I get the chance.

Mark taught me this game as I tried to work out whether I liked it enough to enter the upcoming tournament. It is essentially a 1v1 console fighting game in card form, simple enough to learn with future plays to go quicker due to being more familiar with the game but longer due to some deeper strategies that may emerge.

I played 2 games against Mark and 1 against Jacob (as part of Mark teaching Jacob). Mark also said that he taught Blake this game earlier in the meet.

What's the answer to random trivia questions? Not knowing is no problem - also get points based on seeing what numbers everyone else thinks the answer is and correctly guessing which of them have the closest answer without going over!

This is the basis of this excellent party game. I had recently purchased my copy and got a chance to play it again with 5 people (including unhelpful comments from those not playing). That minor annoyance aside, I can't remember who won but it wasn't me. There was also Richard, Paul, Theodora and Jacob in this game.

Bean farming has never felt so fun as in Bohnanza. I think Paul and Theodora were new to this game as we all negotiated, persuaded, cajoled, bargained for and otherwise generally tried to get the beans we wanted and trade/give away the ones we didn't (at least not at that point).

At the end, it was Jacob who had the win on 17 over me on 16, Richard and Paul each on 14 and Theodora on 12.

Powerboats seem to be an underplayed game. With at least one new player, I managed to persuade/argue for playing on the easy side, but somehow gave into including the expansions into the second and third race. This saw some spectacular moments including me taking a flying leap on a jump to get back into the second race, and Richard overjumping on a jump in the third race to crash himself out of that race.

Jacob took out the win on 16 points, over me on 15, Paul 11, Theodora 10 and Richard 8.
