The Solo Games Chain of Generosity

A big thank you must go to

They suggested this and I hope that the solo gaming community like the idea. Hopefully, we'll all have some fun along the way too as we try new games and see others enjoy the games we didn't or had finished with.

There are lots of chains of generosity but this will be the first one devoted to solo games.

What classes as a solo game? Any game that officially lists a player count of 1 or more on BGG, any fully co-operative games (i.e. no traitors, etc) and any game in the 2016 People's Choice Top 100 Solo Games (+). This definition is subject to change and if you have something you want to offer and are unclear on, just drop me a geekmail or post a comment.

Here's how a chain of generosity works (taken from the original chain of generosity and tweaked a bit. Thank you.):

Step 1: The list will be seeded with a giveaway solo game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After X days a recipient for the game will be randomly chosen (i.e. dice rolls, random.org, etc), and the sender will geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After X days (this can vary) they will do a draw, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2 and so on and so on until the end of time....

The rules (shamelessly but with thanks copied from the European Chain of Generosity):

RULES:

1. You must add a comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the draw to receive it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away (NO VOUCHERS, OFFERS TO BUY A GAME OF CHOICE FROM A OLGS, ETC) in this fashion within 24 hours. If you don't like that idea, don't play. Please do not wait until you receive your win before offering a game of your own - its all about generosity.

PLEASE DO NOT SHIP YOUR GAME TO A WINNER UNTIL THEY HAVE COMPLETED STEP

3. Set a deadline of around 5 to 10 days.

4. In the event that no offers are made on your game within the deadline, try a different game in its place and set a new deadline. You can also put several games in your listing for people to pick from.

5. If you wish to start a new chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description, give the chain a name and number it as 1 (e.g. SEED Card Games Chain #1). For those later in a chain, identify which chain your game belongs to by also putting in the chain name and a number (e.g. Card Games Chain #2), DO NOT ADD THE WORD SEED.

6. Sender pays shipping, unless they indicate in their entry that the recipient will and under what circumstances (international shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where the recipient pays shipping agrees to do so.

PLEASE DO NOT SHIP YOUR GAME TO A WINNER UNTIL THEY HAVE POSTED A NEW LINK IN THE CHAIN.

Who can add an item to the list (PLEASE READ THIS BIT, IT IS IMPORTANT):

You must be a member of the 1 Player guild to take part and you can't enter a draw for a game you already own (we need to spread the love) but other than that there are no stipulations.

NB: Expansions for solo games, accessories for solo games and even solo RPGs can also be added to the list.

Oh Holy Knight! Oh Holy Grail Game!

Seed: Flying Solo #1

Mage Knight Board Game
Condition: Like New (Played twice)
Shipping: free US Domestic, International winner pays difference.
Sign-up Deadline: Sunday Dec. 7, 2014, 6pm US Central
Drawing Date: Item Closed
Draw Method: Item Closed

Why this Game?: I love this game, but since moving my gaming area to another location, there's no place to leave it set up. I'd rather someone who doesn't already own this to take it and really show it some affection!!! But I WILL own this again very soon!

One last note; I will be leaving an indication that I once owned this game on the inside box lid (very small). I hope others might consider doing the same. Maybe I might see old Mage Knight again in a future chain!

If you want into the drawing, just comment "Holy Knight, Holy Grail"!

It's not as good as Mage Knight so why bother?

Seed: Old World Solo #1

Robinson Cruise AotCI Expansion - Voyage of the Beagle

Just to clarify, this is the Portal, English First Edition. It is NOT the Z-Man edition.

Condition: Like New (Opened but never played, tokens unpunched, etc). Box is dented in one corner (like that when I bought it) but contents unaffected.
Shipping: free UK Domestic, International winner pays half.
Sign-up Deadline: Tuesday Dec. 9, 2014, 2pm Gateshead local time
Please note that I am bringing the deadline forward to 2pm on Tuesday as I will now be out that night - blooming Christmas related activities
Drawing Date: Same as Above
Draw Method: TBD

Why this Expansion?: I love the base game but haven't even played half the scenarios, let alone tried it with 2 characters or more. This has sat on my shelf for 11 months unplayed. I will probably not get to it for another year or more. Seems a waste, so it should go to someone who will love it and play it.

I will be copying Sundog's idea of leaving an indication that I once owned this game on the inside box lid (very small).

If you want to be in the draw just add a comment saying "It's not even a proper game".

Entered into the draw:

1. grunherz
2. Sigrdrifa
3. Malaiser
4. And bec
5. ExtremelylongSN
6. spazz451

One if by Land, Two if by Sea

Seed:Flying Solo #2

Choose your battle: sea or land, and after that as a bonus you get to invade France.

Choose one of the following:
Field Commander: Alexander

or choose

Blackbeard

After you make that choice you will also get as a Sweetner:

Fortress Europa

Field Commander: Alexander
Condition: Like New
Shipping: Free US Domestic, International winner pays difference.
Sign-up Deadline; Sunday Dec. 14, 2014. 7 pm US Pacific
Drawing Date: Same as Above
Draw Method:TBD

OR

Blackbeard
Condition: Like New. Game has been opened, but it is unpunched and cards still in plastic.
Second Edition.

Sweetner: Fortress Europa
Condition - Mixed
Box cover is in poor condition. Bottom left corner is torn on seam and about half way up left side on the seem. Bottom box in good condition and all parts and maps are in good condition.

Why these games?

I couldn't decide between the two games which one I wanted to let go so I will let you choose which one you want. I added a sweetner to the package because I felt another game was needed to match up with Mage Knight game I am receiving.

I also currently have D-Day which is filling my WW2, war battle need currently.

So choose your first battle, Land or Sea, then when you are done go invade France as you battle to Germany.

If you want into the drawing, just comment
"One if by Land, Two if by Sea."

So allow me to get the nitty gritty out of the way and do some copying and pasting...

Shipping: I will cover the first $15 in shipping.
Sign-up Deadline: Thursday Dec. 18, 2014, 11pm US Eastern
Drawing Date: Same as Deadline
Draw Method: BGG Die Roll

So, up for grabs is one copy of Ambush! I purchased two copies recently, because the one I got was incomplete. So I had to buy a second! So I am putting up for grabs the second copy. I copied the cards I needed (the first copy only had half the cards) and so don't need to hang onto it anymore. So I'm positive everything should be there unless it is missing from both my games.

The box has some wear and a tear in one corner. The components are in good shape.

SWEETNER
I'm also throwing in one copy of Ranger

This game is in fantastic condition (unplayed) but the box has tape all around and it is not pretty. So if you are all about the looks of your boxes, you won't like it. However, like I said, it is unplayed and in fantastic shape. This is the second edition.

If you want into the drawing, just comment "Duck and Cover!"

Game Conditions/history:
Air Superiority: Good - Bought used in BGG Auction - Complete - Never played by me.

Anima: Condition: Great - First edition - Received used in trade - played a few times by me

Burgoo: NEW - Kickstarter Edition - Never came in shrink - opened only to verify parts (accidentally ordered two, so this is the second copy)

Chrononauts: Good - received in trade by fellow soloist - played twice by me, wasn't really my thing

First Train to Nuremberg: Like New/Near mint - Bought new, played twice.

Frag Gold Edition: Like New/Near mint - Got in trade, was in shrink. Opened by me, played once, not really my thing.

Innovation: Good - Got in trade from fellow Soloist. Not in original box, but in plastic clear clamshell like box. (improvement in my opinion) - First edition - errata pasted onto cards, hardly even noticeable.

The Lord of the Rings The Card Game: Like New - Got in trade - cards sleeved - Played a few times. I tried to like this one but I just don't have the time to dedicate to this game to really learn it and build decks. (I prefer to build decks during the game, like Thunderstone)

Old World Solo #4

Ok, we are close to Christmas and 2015 is already knocking at the door. Never expected the olde world solo to come to me so quickly, lets see what I can offer. I will probably add some more later on but have a very heavy packed work day ahead of me.

Choice #1:
now, it is Friday and this is a popular game which never really sees my table (though I like it). So lets give Friday a new home. Note, this is the German Edition and the game has some text on the Cards:

You will also get an excellent deluxe p&p copy of Pocket Civ with mounted counters and board. Another game that rarely hits my table. My edition is pretty similar to the one pictured below:

Choice #2:

Ok, lets see if I have something rather language neutral or in English.

This is a great game for anyone who likes some optimization and puzzling. You beat your highscore but the game creates a great feeling of pyramid exploration. For me it replaced Take it Easy! as I love how the path builds up over time. Game can only be ordered by the publisher, who fortunately is one of my buddies. So I can offer a choice of either a quick turnaround with my opened copy plus the Mummy expansion that was given out to backers. Or a brand new copy in shrink which I would try to get in Jan/Feb next year. Note that my copy is still in great condition, too.

..................................................................

Shipping: I will cover worldwide shipping for any of the two choices.
Sign-up Deadline: Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, around 19:00 GMT+1
Drawing Date: either 22nd or 23rd
Draw Method: will depend on # of

..................................................................

Closed, we have a winner:

Old World Solo #5

Well, it looks like the old world has travelled to the new world, and is there a more fitting game than this? Journey the undiscovered landscape of colonial America with Lewis & Clark.

If you wanted to be included in the drawing, let us know where you would go if you could adventure anywhere in the world. Me? I know this might sound cheesy, but I would go to New Zealand for a Lord of the Rings walking tour!

Here are all the pertinents and such:
Language: English

Condition: Very good. It has been played once.

Drawing: I am going to let this one sit for a little bit. With the business of the holidays, I don't want anyone to miss out on the drawing. I will use a dice roll (in this GeekList item) sometime on January 3rd to determine a winner.

Remember: If you win this item, you will be expected to continue on this chain of generosity.

Shipping: I will cover shipping to the U.S. I may be able to cover shipping anywhere in the world, but I'll have to wait and see. I would really love to, but I just might not be able to pull it off.

Who's going to win?

Flying Solo #4

Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game
Condition: Great condition (bought off eBay and played a couple times)
Shipping: free US Domestic, International winner pays difference.
Sign-up Deadline: Wednesday Dec. 31, 2014, 6pm US Eastern
Drawing Date: 01/01/15
Draw Method: Dice Roll...from the game itself!

Why this Game?: This was one of my first entries into the solo gaming forum and, although I enjoy the art, theme and everything else, I have come to despise it as it is a anguishing mental beat down EVERY TIME!! I figured this is a meager offering compared to those before me but someone may not have experienced how demoralizing a card game like this can be and enjoy being embarrassed by inanimate simple objects.

As mentioned previously in threads; I will be leaving an indication that I once owned this game on the inside box lid (username/name).

If you want into the drawing, just comment "Cover me! I'm going in!"!

This game mocks me in it's small inconspicuous box ....please take it...PLEASE!!

And after a lone entry and the roll of the solo board gamers representative die which coincidentally landed on a 1.......the winner is:

Omega2064. Congratulations and my family thanks you!

Failing that all applicants will be released into the alien jungle of Survival and the one to make it to the checkpoint wins. ninja

Fun game and oft underrated. Sorry for the late post but pulled out the game and was doing inventory and... where are the counters? No countersheet here? Oh. Counters were in their own bags. Wheres the bags? Bags are with the other microgames. No they arent! Hours later after tearing room apart looking for them.

Why this game? Picked it up some time ago during a TFG urge and had alot of fun with it. Fun game and I am hoping someone else will get some enjoyment from it as well. Of the two I liked Survival more.

If you want in then comment "I must escape this deadly alien jungle!" or "By the sword and the shield of the Old Fathers!" or both if you are feeling really bold

Ok. Deadline is up.

2: Albert H

And with the roll of the mysterious pink solo gamer die I recieved. The result was 1. The solo gamer icon. So the winner is Chris Sayre.

Giving Thanks for SGOYT #6

Okay, I've got it... For this Giving Thanks, I'd like to offer up a "Choose Your Own Adventure" type prize since if I really think about it, these classic books were my REAL first solo gaming experience!

So for my offer I will give the winner a $20 gift card to Amazon.com to pick and choose your own adventure in solo gaming (or at least help towards a bigger adventure of your choosing)

To enter I'd love for you to come up with a typical choice in these sorts of books, complete with suspense and page numbers!!

I will draw a winner on Valentines day! Feb 14th

Cheers

*edit: I know that technically Fighting Fantasy books weren't really the same as Choose Your Own Adventure books, but they meld into my childhood together...and also I didn't see a Choose Your Own Adventure page to link to.

Solo Final Frontier #2

Have you ever wondered what Catan would play like in space as a fully cooperative game? Then you are ready to try Vanished Planet. This indie game from 2003 was one of the first titles I picked up in a BGG auction. I don't pull it out very often, but I've held on to it due to how unique the title is. However, I'd love to see it go to a new, loving home.

This is a TOUGH game that can be played as a true solo with 1 character, but it gets better the more characters you add on (it's a fully cooperative title, so playing multihanded doesn't mean playing against yourself). Earth has been swallowed up by a strange anomaly, which is spreading across the galaxy. As an alien species, you have 9 rounds to reach the communication satellites, receive and complete roughly 2 missions from Earth per character to defeat the spreading darkness. Missions include things like visiting all the home planets, having your markers on 7 asteroids, or discarding advanced equipment and personnel at certain locations. The really tricky part is that you can only hold 1 mission at a time and the darkness covers up those com arrays after turn 4, so you have to act QUICK or find another way to communicate with the vanished planet.

Unique for a cooperative game, this is at its heart a resource gathering and trading game. As you fly around the galaxy, you can drop off one of your 8 markers at each location you visit. At the start of your turn, each location with a marker gives you 1 basic resource of its type. You can then combine basic resources into personnel, personnel into advanced technology, and advanced technology into the upgrades you need to win the game. You can trade resources, which is why the game's best played multi-handed.

The coolest part of the game is the unique setting that really comes through in the flavor text and original artwork on the cards. There's even a novel that goes along with the story of the game (the first chapter is in the manual and the rest is on the publisher's website).

Includes the Vanished Planet: Racial Advantage Expansion, which gives each race a unique ability and tweaks some other rules--HIGHLY recommended to play this way, especially for the 1-character game.

The box is a bit banged up but has the designer's signature. The board has a slight manufacturing defect along one edge (see below) that does not affect gameplay.

I will ship this item for free within the USA or cover the first $15 to ship it elsewhere.

DC Comics Deckbuilding w/ PnP Heroes Unite Heroes and Promo's

Box has started peeling at a corner but it was my most played game in 2013.... Everything is sleeved in penny sleeves, Heroes are laminated. Heroes Unite heroes, Starfire, Martian Manhunter and Heroes Unite Villains are all printed in color with card backs on card stock. It was my first PnP and it turned out pretty well IMO.

Up for grabs are...

Dungeon Crawler + Dungeon Crawler: Mines of Khurgan

Both games (base + expansion) are unscathered, in pristine conditions. I'll also add printed color copies of all the adventures available in the publisher site.

It's an adventure card game, with plenty of decisions and hand management. Often quoted as quite thinky and mathy [even sometimes called "Mage Knight" lite]. I'm sure a lot of fellow guild members can asses for this and sing its praises. Be prepared: The rules are hideous but the rewriten ones would be also included and there are some tutorials in the publisher site. If it clicks for you, it's a fantantic game.

Shipping: Free Worlwide shipping. I will cover the first €15 [Please note that shipping from Spain is insanely expensive :-\]
Deadline: next Wednesday 28th January 2015
Drawing: as above
Draw method: BGG dice roll
Entry line: "Silence, I kill you!"

Please make sure to check the rules in the header!
Remember: If you win, you must continue the chain of generosity and post another entry within 24 hours.

Our own "Resolute apprentice" seems to have learned a lot (and quickly!) during the short adventure and that recently adquired knowledge coupled with his innate resolution have made him snatch the prize and run home with it. Congrats and enjoy!

Thank you to everybody, it's been a fun ride, all thanks to you all.

but wait! There's More!...

In addition to the base game I'm also throwing in:
Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game – Mission Pack 1
Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game: Space Marine Pack 1
Both expansions are in the base game box (they only had little plastic clamshells so nothing worth keeping around).

I got this one early on in my solitaire gaming addiction obsession HOBBY. I hate to give away any of my babies but hey, life is hard (not as hard as this game though)

Shipping: Free shipping to the continental United States.
I will cover the first $15 to anywhere else

Deadline: next Wednesday, February 4, 2015

Drawing: Sometime the evening of Feb 4

Draw method: Most likely random.org but if the entries match a die I own I'll do it that way (any excuse to roll dice)
The Genestealers though it would be fun if they could eat the contestants so, I will roll for elimination of each contestant until we're down to one. Good luck in there!

Entry line: "I'm not afraid of no little red die!"

Please make sure to check the rules in the header!
Remember: If you win, you must continue the chain of generosity and post another entry within 24 hours.

Our heroes:

1. Brother murteas
2. Sgt. grunherz
3. Brother exswoo
4. Master Sgt. luckacs

Only hours away from departure, our heros look around and realize there are only four of them. Things are looking grim...
They silently hope to see a few more marines to aid in their goodly cause.

The team of four enter the hulk and:

Upon entering they are ambushed and Sgt. grunherz takes the brunt of the attack and goes down!

Nerves shot already, the remaining 3 continue down the corridor:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
There's a fire fight and many Genestealers go down but one charges through and gores Brother murteas. Such a tragic end.

Entering the final chamber, the two remaining decide to charge the room and take out what they can before they're destroyed as the other two were:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Master Sgt. luckacs gets cornered! brother exswoo flanks and takes out most of the Genestealers while luckacs gets free. Brother exswoo is over run and the Genestealers are so thick, luckacs is unable to get a shot on those that are attacking. Brother exswoo is destroyed.
luckacs decides it would be better to run and fight another day and avenge his brothers.
