To begin I taught Mal, Mike, Mark and Andrew this bizarre mix of area control, deck-building and hidden identities.

The main take away is don't listen to Mark's strategy tips.

Mike won while our team squabbled.

Next I taught Mike and Mal this fantastic worker placement game.

It was a really close game, but Mal took the win.

Mal, Mike and I played this next, a medium weight tile laying game with hidden goals and a great rondel for action selection.

The more I play this game, the more I love it!

Doesn't hurt that I won.

I taught this, my favourite game from last year, to Adrian and Amy.

I don't remember who won, but I am pretty sure it wasn't me

Had a terribly frustrating game of this with Mike, Amy and Adrian.

Amy got a tile that allowed her to build incredibly cheaply and then marched into Edo and built up most of the spaces. Then Aidrian put the last nail in my coffin and I spent most of the game knowing I was eliminated.

Never seen it happen before.

I don't remember who won in the end?

Tim and Mike taught me, Craig and Diane this updated classic. I played the original a few years ago. This is a really nice update. The map was tight and interesting and there were several viable stratergies.

I taught Mike, Diane, Craig and newcomer Michael this pure negotiation game. It was everyone else's first time playing and they all picked it up very well! Michael's friend Alex came along for the ride too to add some hilarious commentary. This one played nice and quick and I believe Diane took it out by a large margin.

I taught Craig, Mike, Diane and Michael this cuthroat game of irrigation management and bribery! This is one of my favourite games, but it can be pretty harsh to new players.

I had to rush off after this game and didn't get to say goodbye to everyone. So thanks to everyone who took the time to learn and play some new games with me!

Jason taught myself, Tim and Richard this dudes-on-a-map civ building game. We threw in the expansion which adds unique player races, new army units and pirates (Arrr!).

I was massacred by Jason and Richard after I sat a plundering longship off the coast of one of Jason's cities and pillaged a barbarian city that Richard apparently called dibs on.

Lots of fun, definitely want to play again soon.

We played 2 5-player games of this, with Richard and I the only experienced players (I think...?), with Karl and the two other unremembered names. I can't remember who won the two games, but we all enjoyed it and it provoked much reminiscing of the films and songs on the cards.

This games was new to all when I brought it to the table. A game just involving cards, players play cards to the table to get the most number of points, with each card possibly having an effect on the cards either in front of that player or of the cards on all players.

It plays quickly - 15 minutes on our first game, but I think it can get down to 10 or even 5 if playing a non-teaching game - and we played it with 4 (it plays from 2 to 4). The players were me, Richard and two unremembered names, and I managed to win.

Richard (with my limited help) taugh this game to Leah, Graham and Karl. Once the drafting had ended, it was Karl who won on 57, over Leah 49, Richard 48, Graham 45 and me on 32.

I actually think this might be a better game for me to own than Dominion - certainly, I seem to be more willing to introduce new players to this rather than Dominion, and its ability to play up to 7 seems more valuable than Dominion's 4. Something to think about and consider.

After several failed attempts to learn this game myself online, Andrew kindly volunteered/agreed to teach it to me live in a game involving himself, me, Gracie and Keith (also new to the game). Things made so much more sense than before, and I give Andrew huge props for not only teaching this game well but for generally being a good game teacher.

Andrew played with one of the non-beginner boards, and he pulled away for the win on 226 over Keith 201, me 193 and Gracie 188.

I can now properly understand and appreciate the game, but it felt a little cold and mechanical. I'm going to have to play this a few more times to better know whether this is a game I'm going to enjoy.

Leah was taught this game for the first time, and we played 3 games involving me, Mark, Jason, Leah and Jess (some of those games with 4, and at least one of those games with the Inquisitor). I think everyone enjoyed it and there were many moments (at least in my head) of 'if I go for A, then B might have the Duke and get enough to Coup, unless I challenge C that she has the Captain, in which case it means that A did not have the Assassin...'

Gareth bought this with him, and we got into it with six players.

I've played before with the simplified car version but it was decided that this time we'd go with the expert cars.

That proved disastrous and I crashed some point not too far into the second lap! I was the first out and pretty much solidified my losing streak for the entire day.

Played two games of this with the same guys who played Formula D (less Gareth, who had to home).

First game was standard beginner fare in which I spent my first two rounds driving straight off the edge. I am awful at directions in this game.

Second game we played an expert map with the superbot variation. I started as the superbot and made a beeline to camp the upgrade tile while my pursuers decided to hang around the starting area and beat on each other

I made the mistake of powering down just as they pulled themselves together and they managed to push me off the edge, but not before I got some cool stuff!

Tim taught this to myself, Jason and Mark. It's reminiscent of Kingdom Builder but in this case is actually a good game. The modular board consists of 5 different types of regions and on a turn you generally play a card - one of 6 colours - and place the corresponding building on the board, then activate the abilities of all the cards of that colour you've played so far. There's also the ability to discard your hand for resources, money, buildings or more cards.

I picked up a copy for myself this week and after another play I think it compares mechanically to one of my favourites, Race for the Galaxy: tableau building, engine building, using cards as resources. And having the board is nice addition too.

My only complaint is there may be a little too much downtime with 4 players. 3 might be the sweet spot.

Highly recommend.

Richard bought this light dexterity tree-building game that a few of us jumped on late in the evening. Everyone starts with equal branches, apples and leaves and is trying to put them onto the tree base or previously placed branches before everyone else. If you make anything fall off the tree you add it to what you already have to put on the tree. A beautiful game and an attention grabber, I think most of the room came over to have a go after we finished.
