I was only there until 18:00 but when we left all the tables were full and everyone looked like they were intently gaming.

Got this one out to teach for the Liar Game Tournament.

A nice poker variant which encourages lying and uses special abilities.

Jason got a early lead, but lost out big when he challenged a truthful Maggie.

In the end, Ernest (sitting in for Eric) won while Maggie collected second prize

Edit - if anyone is interested, this is back on ks along with the expansion

Taught this to Eric, Rudolf and Maggie.

I really like this game and wish I could play it more. It annoys me that it has a advanced version which I'll probably never get to play.

In the end, Eric won with over 100 points, I was a little bit behind followed by Maggie and Rudolf.

Hint of the day: Remember the great wall!!!

Taught a four player game of this cunning game of trickery and deception.

Managed to mislead my opponents well enough and for long enough to sneak/skulk away with the victory.

I think this is a cracker game, so if trickery and deception is your thing, get me to teach you sometime.

Ian taught this to Adrian, Amy and I and then left us to our own devices.

Neat game that had us all close in scores then wide apart then close again, hard to determine who was leading until the end.

It wasn't me that won, I think it was Adrian.

Further exploration on yucate.de pending.

Five of us had a crack at this. There was some confusion about the Bonus Action cards (and I still contend that some of the "Bonus Action" cards should just be called "Bonus" cards, since they don't result in an extra (bonus) action, but a modification to an existing action). Anyway, eventually Karl won, with a move that he replayed for Warren's benefit. And I oouldn't grumble too much, since I won the door prize while we were playing.
We suspect that the game is "cooked" (to use the expression from chess problems) - the winning strategy is probably to collect all of your cargo cards in the sorting area till you can lay them down as a winning combination in one hit. If everyone does this, the game then becomes a matter of accumulating cards as quickly as possible, without worrying about the placement restriction (cards placed on the locomotive must match the previous card by colour or number) until the very end of your collection.
Alas, not a game I shall be eager to replay.

I ran a teaching game of this for Steve, Greg and Kent.

Race is one of my absolute favourite games so I really enjoy when people are willing to learn it. I think the learning curve for this game has been severely over exaggerated. It's a pretty easy game when it comes down to it, with lots of depth to explore should you want to go further.

I hope everyone enjoyed it, and I'm always willing to play / teach this one!

Next I taught and ran the first round or two of this cooperative horror-themed game for Greg, Steve, Leah and Rudolf.

For this game the investigators were attempting to halt the arrival of Azatoth.

I can't go too much into the actual details of this play as I left once it was up and running to teach Castles of Burgundy. But, I do know that there was at least one early investigator death, and that the game was not completed as two players had to leave before it was done.

Next up I joined Tim, Tim and Tegan (!) for this great euro. We played on the new Germania map, which adds a few little rules without changing the game very much at all.

This is just a fantastic game, it's very simple while constantly throwing you very satisfying decisions. I managed second place while Tim took the win.

Forgot about this one! While Greg, Steve, Rudolf and I were waiting for Leah to finish up Mission: Red Planet before joining Eldritch Horror, we played this quick bluffing/deduction game.

This is very simple, the deck has fifteen cards, numbered between 1 and 15. Everyone starts with one card in their hand, and the top card is turned over face-up (called the Kobayakawa card).

During the draw phase, each player either draws a new card, then discards either their new or old card face up, or turns over the top card of the deck to replace the Kobayakawa card.

Then, each player decides if they want to participate in the "fight" stage by either passing or throwing a coin into the middle.

Any player that is taking part then reveals their card. The highest card wins, BUT the lowest revealed card adds the value on the Kobayakawa card to theirs. The winner takes back their coin along with all of the other players, as well as coin from the bank.

After seven rounds the player with the most coins wins.

I've really enjoyed playing this with groups ranging from three to six players. Steve won this game by a decent margin.

Next Adrian, Craig, Tim and myself played this game of warring cities in mythological Egypt. I bought up some tiles early on to help me recruit more units, but it never really paid off. As usual it ended up a fairly close game, with Craig winning in the end (partly due to me not noticing he was about to win and choosing to attack someone else). I do think this game would benefit from a scoreboard, and score tokens get passed around so much during play, it's easy for players to simply not realise that another player is about to win. This has happened in the last two games I've played of this and it makes for a bit of an anti-climactic ending. It's still an enjoyable game though.

Launched this out of the WABA Starter Tub, firstly as a two player game with Mark and then a three player game with Mark and Tim.

It is a neat version of Carcassone that 50% of those playing in the first game and 66.67% of those in the second thought it was a nicely streamlined version of the original that would be easy to teach.

Mark and Tim were the winners - and 50% of them thought it was a nicely streamlined version of the original that would be easy to teach
