Mal, Eric and myself played this fairly simple route building / pick up and deliver game to start the day. I'm still undecided about the longevity of this one but it's a nice step up from Ticket to Ride. I'm pretty sure Mal won.

Next up Mark joined the same group for this great little racing game. I've been playing a load of this recently as a quick two-player game, and it works great. Plenty of strategy to be found in the card play, yet simple enough for kids to play as well. This one is my favourite of the series so far (I own all four that have been released and play them fairly regularly). Mark won this.

Next up the same group played this great deduction / memory game about solving mysteries cooperatively by passing clues to each other in a Chinese Whispers style. Mal had to leave after the first game and David asked if we could play another as he had been considering purchasing it. After playing I'm pretty sure he's going to pick up his own copy. Highly recommended. We did terribly in both mysteries BTW.

After that I moved to a table with Stuart, other Stuart, Leah, Warren, and Tim to try Stuarts print and play of this new blending of The Resistance and One Night Ultimate Werewolf.

It's closer to One Night Werewolf than it is to The Resistance, the main difference being that your allegiance (called your I.D.) and your role (called your something else) are separate, and that the action your role allows may be different depending on your I.D. Other than that, it differs in that roles are no longer called in order. Instead each player, moving clockwise around the table, opens their eyes and performs their action before closing their eyes again. When everyone has done their action, eyes open and, moving in turn order again, everyone HAS to claim a role and claim to have done something. This means you can't sit back and not offer any information.

We played three games and I liked it. It's more complex than ONW, and I think I still prefer ONW, but I'd like to play more of this.

Next up the same groups played this great Trick Taking game. I've never played it with six before, and it's quite different (I think four is the sweet spot, but this still worked). I was winning convincingly with 0 points (least points wins once the game is ended by one player hitting 100 points), until Stuart managed to shoot the moon and win ALL of the black cards, giving everyone at the table 30 points in the second last round. I then had a pretty terrible last round and picked up another 30ish points, leaving Stuart with a well deserved win.

Next up the same groups of six broke into two teams to play this hectic real-time dice rolling game. Each team controls a star ship, with players taking control of the ship's various stations (weapons, sensors, engineering, shields and helm). The object is deceptively simple: shoot the other team's star ship out of the sky. What it actually entails is lots of confusion, frantic dice rolling and premature torpedo launches. Warren, Leah and myself were outmatched in the end and went out, having landed two of four hits on our opponents. Great fun but definitely a once per session game... it's pretty exhausting!

Next up the same group of six played this great civilisation expansion game from Mac Gerdts. I was a little concerned about how long this might take with a full compliment of six but it played really smoothly, turns were very fast and everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot. Myself and Leah had a stand off on our borders for about half of the game. It was just about to get bloody when sneaky Warren pulled out the victory by hiding in his corner and staying quiet. Next time I'll make sure to war monger faster.

After Antike II Warren left to play Lords of Waterdeep. To finish, I taught this great card game to Leah, Tim and Stuart who had not played it before.

This is one of my absolute favourite games and I love it every single time I play it. Stuart and I were neck and neck at the end when the deck ran out, and I managed to win in the tie breaker by having only one more card in my hand. A slightly hollow victory I feel but still a very enjoyable game. Was glad to hear that the new players enjoyed it as well.

Got to WABA a bit late.

Joined Luke and another fellow with this game.

I have played once before in a 2 player game. It was a bit better with 3.

I gotta say, although the idea of the game is kinda neat, it is a game I may only play once a year or so. I think the other two were of the same opinion

After Alchemist, two new WABA visitors came in.

I put up my hand to help their introduction to the world of boardgames.

We started off with the amazing WABA beginners box and trains through America.

I did absolutely dismally after building multiple 2 length routes with small destinations.

Next up, another member of WABA brought this out.

yeaaa.... this isn't great for new players.

After a long rules explanation, we finally got going.
The two new players and myself made a few mistakes, but we all did quite well and ended up all getting over 20 points.

I won the game after connecting 4 cities (with 2 multiplier) and controlling 6 cities.

Then we foolishly decided to try and save the sub with a bunch of drunken gnomes. I think I may have forgotten a rule or two in regards to the Kraken, which needed to be fought off before the final minute, which we succeeded in doing to the detriment of the rest of the sub (two slightly roasted gnomes now live in davy's locker). Which from memory means the unlucky sod who was left floating outside in scuba gear wins??

I ran a Love Letter tournament with this as the tournament prize.

There were twenty participants playing over five tables.

As it was a tournament and there were five tables, the winner was the first to five points - having to win a point at each table. The winners of the current round of the game rotated to the next table to play the following round.

David quickly got to four points, leaving everyone else floundering in his wake. He was then unable to easily secure his final point from the fifth table.

As the game went into the final round, there were eight participants lining up to try and get their last point. All participants had scored by this stage, with many on multiple scores.

David finally made it to the fifth point first.

Winner of the Mt Claremont edition of the tournament: David Hall

Mark kindly brought his copy for me to get another game in after far too long. Eric and Nick joined us as Mark taught them and refreshed me on the rules. This game sees each player as a wizard seeking to get to 2 points by any combination of stealing the other wizard's treasure and bringing it back to their home base (1 point/treasure chest) and killing other wizards (1 point/wizard killed)

Mark, Eric and I were at various times close to winning. Highlights of the game included:
-Eric being one turn away from winning through killing me for his second point when I unknowingly stopped him by placing a boulder in a square, stopping him from getting his diseased self to me;
-Eric rotating Mark's board, giving a clear line of sight between Mark's and my home base;
-me using the new line of sight to throw a treasure to my home base;
-Mark later using the line of sight to stretch out and take the treasure to his home base;
-Mark rolling the only number possible on a D4 to fail to win the game, not managing to rip/drop a treasure chest from Nick;
-Nick and I inadvertently teaming up to kill Mark, with me getting in the killing blow for the point;
-Mark being so close to winning by having two treasure chests in his home base, dropping the second as he died; and
-I managing to transform into a werewolf for faster movemenet to run back to my base with a treasure.

I managed the win in what was a very enjoyable play session.

This was a ‘everyone wants bits from different expansions, so we end up playing with almost everything’ game.

BSG + Pegasus + base Exodus + Daybreak going to Earth with Final Five, the Cylon Fleet Board but no Cylon Leaders

Owain: Cain [OPG agreed to be second destination from the top]
Natasha: Apollo (alternate)
Me: Cally Tyrol
Richard: Starbuck
Eric: Baltar (original)
Agreed to use base game ICs

With President Baltar, Admiral Cain and CAG Starbuck, the humans headed off to get to Earth, with at least one cylon guaranteed to be amongst the crew come sleeper phase. Morale dropped regularly, and food soon started to follow suit. Starbuck’s double shot from a viper against a basestar were notable, and there were some comments about there being no cylons in this part of the game. Even better, a Demiterious mission was passed that removed one basestar from the game. Apollo was made Chief of Staff.

Post sleeper, suspicions were raised, with there being at least one cylon amongst the group. Each player made moves or claimed actions that proved them as human, but as resources slowly dropped, someone or two had to be lying. Two centurions boarded and after a time, were killed. Baltar used his OPG and claimed that Cally was human, then made her Vice-President XOs were more withdrawn, fuel became an issue and then was regained, and as humanity crept towards 10 distance, food and morale were getting dangerously low. Negative cards started creeping into skill checks. Cally survived one brigging but not Cain and Apollo teaming up for the second, Cain executing her to reveal…a cylon!

But on 10 distance, with humanity only needing one more jump to win, President Baltar gave a Presidential Order to bring morale down to 0, winning the game for the two pre-sleeper cylons!

As usual, it was a fantastic session of Battlestar Galactica.
