The first Thursday of the month sees a WABA meet held in conjunction with the store’s regular boardgaming night. What did you get to the table and what did you think about them?

WABA's guild can be found here.
The metalist of WABA games played can be found here.

Mark taught Mr B (sorry can't remember your name) in a game involving me, Mr B, Kent, Mr D (sorry, can't remember you name either) and Mark. Mr B and Mr D both scored 54, with Mr B winning on tiebreak, over Kent on 47 and me and Mark both on 44 (I'd like to hope I beat him on tiebreak...)

I muddled my way through teaching Mr D (from the 7 Wonders game) and Kent. We eventually got the hang of it throughout the game (although I'm sure I still didn't get all the rules right). We defeated Magneto with an assortment of villians and henchmen (Sentinels, Brotherhood, Spider-Man villians etc.) with the heroes Emma Frost, Gambit, Rogue, Cyclops and Storm. We ended up with the co-op win (if we were scoring, Mr D scored most over Kent and I).

Given the limited time and my shaky memory of the game I hashed my way through teaching this game to Kent, skipping over many of the nuances and particular rules in favour of a broad brush approach (my only surface level knowledge of the game not helping).

My defence was horrible, the offence not much better and Kent was ahead about 14 to 0 (not even completed the first half) when we called it due to time. I think Kent was enjoying it, and the game is light enough that even casual players can find enjoyment (much of the outcome is dice dependant, so a lot of what you get out of a game is what you put in). Given the nature of the game, I wonder whether non-hardcore NFL fans are the target market - those who yearn for a deeper simulation won't, I think, find it here.

I taught Leah this great, fairly intricate euro game. It reminded me how much I like it so hopefully I'll get it played again soon.
