Numbers seemed down for WABA's regular 1st Thursday of the month boardgaming meet, but those who met seemed to generally enjoy the time they had.

WABA's guild can be found here.
The metalist of WABA games played can be found here.

I got in on and was taught this silly, light dice game with Amy, Mr X, Mr Y and me (sorry for unremembered names!). I didn't win, but now understand more some of the appeal of this game.

I'm not sure I fully understood the full story of the game, nor all the rules (I should have approached it as a completely new player rather than one who had a general but vague understanding through reviews), but I appreciated, and even generally enjoyed the experience. We had a full complement, with Adrian, Mike and Mr Z joining the previous Würfelwurst players.

We used Mike's homemade-while-waiting-for-copies-to-arrive-in-Australia version for two games, Mike and Adrian playing against Amy and I. In two games where we took turns being the cluegiver (I'm sure there's a proper name for that role) and minor rule queries aside, each team won one game. I can really understand the appeal now and am looking forward to getting my copy.

Adrian, Amy and I may combine to know the rules, but it made for less than optimal teaching experience for Mike (sorry!). It may have been appropriate that was did so with the villains version of this game, in a game that involved the big adversary being Doctor Strange in a plot that thematically made little sense, graduation form Xavier's school,

No really, think about it, if it is graduation form Xavier's school, wouldn't there be the senior X-Men around to call upon and fight what ever baddies did appear? If not, why would there be a graduation? And doesn't Dr Strange have different issues to face than standard, of this world vilains? Unless these events occur in Secret Wars too? But then how to explain the other continutiy problems/character names that this poses?

*ahem* Sorry, where was I?

Yes, we were teaching Mike and fighting Dr Strange. We were also battling the clock to finish (or at least have a good enough go) before the store closed. Apart from the minor rules changes/additions from the standard game, my greater issue was the change in shorthand terminology I was used to - saying 'good guys' and 'bad guys' is very problamatic and confusing when playing as the bad guys.

In the end, we not only finished by defeating Dr Strange, but I managed to take out the points victory. While I appreciated playing it, I think I prefer the traditional game.

Played this with Ian and Pete, our only game of the evening. A fun kind of worker placement game where you produce different types of cars to sell on either the North American or European market. If you can build the cars to the taste of the markets, and you can get your cars onto the ship first, you will be better rewarded by either points or cash to use in future rounds. This is a deeper game than you might think based on the cartoon-y artwork.
