This Geeklist is for games that work with more than six players AND don't involve waiting for ages between turns. The idea is to find games where a decent-sized group of people don't feel like they're spending most of the day sitting around.

"These are all very good games (8 to 10 on my scale) that have significant complexity but minimize downtime. Most do this by having players take several shorter turns in sequence during the game."

An early, short list.

This list is for games that easily and gracefully survive a player or two leaving mid-game.

This list contains one of the most insightful comments I've found:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/5558/comment/113040#co...

"This is an interesting list. The concept of being able to join in mid-game is useful, but (to me) has a fundamental flaw:

In order for me to enjoy a game, it must have meaningful play. This encompasses many things, but one of the main ones is that my actions have an outcome. If someone can come in mid-game and still have an equal chance to win, then what did I spend all that time on? I might as well have sat out...
And if the joining player is at a disadvantage, then it's pretty lousy for him, although it makes it better for all the other players.

The whole concept of being able to join mid-game seems to remove meaningful play, either for the joiner, or for the original players (at least for me).

I'm not one of those players that has to win to have a good time - but if I don't feel like my playing is having an impact (vs. someone not playing), then what's the point?"

I've kept this in mind while searching for the ultimate group game.

Similar to "Games that you can join in mid-game".

"I am looking for a game that we can play while we wait for others to come to a game night."

This list is for games that can be cut short, by choice, with little warning and still have a clear, mostly uncontentious winner. This is mostly so several games in a large event can end together to a group can go get a meal or something.

This list kinda mis-fired when someone posted a bunch of games that could simply end abruptly sometimes.

"...a few games that have a built in "catch up" mechanic, where players in last place are given a chance to have a more pronounced impact on the game. These games tend to go over well with my gaming group, and I am eager to find more."

I'd been looking for a luck v skill thing that prevented players from pulling too far ahead or dropping too far behind, but this list looks better.

After being stuck in one (perfectly fine, but long) game for half of a monthly gaming event I've decided to target games that are a little shorter than three hours (or however long Imperial was). This Geeklist fills that need nicely.
Quote:
"I'm searching for some nice games that are filled with strategy, but are not too much time-consumming. (about an hour or less)"

"Yesterday we had 7 gamers, and that stretched resources a bit as I don't have a lot of games that support 7 players.

So here is a quick summary of what we played and how it went."
