Mal printed up a fancy copy of the P&P files for this game he recently backed on Kickstarter and taught it to Shay, Pete and I.

It took me about three rounds to sort of get the game.

It has a fair resemblance to Race for the Galaxy style games, with a tableau and simultaneous action selection that resolves in a specific order.

I wouldn't say I loved it, but I didn't dislike it either. I expect it gets better with more plays.

I do think there was some poor wording in the rulebook that needs to be ironed out a little.

I don't remember who won in the end, except that it wasn't me.

Next I taught the same group this Rudiger Dorn game from a few years ago. It's light, but moves fast. Basically set collection and area control, with nothing ground-breaking or new, but put together in a nice, elegant way.

Shay remarked that it reminded him of Marco Polo, which I can see. They are different enough that I like both a lot.

This was my only win of the day.

I brought this along because I was pretty confident Warren would enjoy it, and also Tim K had been wanting to try it, so we along with Leah, played this great game from Matthais Cramer, who is a designer with a fantastic track record (Lancaster, Glen More, Helvetia, Rokoko).

It has the sort-of-rondel mechanism from Glen More, but instead of taking tiles, they are the action spaces for worker placement. Those spaces move to the back of the track, meaning the decision of when to jump ahead to do what you want/need to do can be really tough (I suspect that is my weakness in the game).

Players build cars, send them to shows and try to attract buyers. You also race in the Grand Prix. It seems like there is a lot going on, but all of the pieces fit together nicely, and it's another game that moves along very quickly.

Leah absolutely smashed us with an 80-something point score, though it was largely to do with a miscalculation on Tim's behalf, inviting a seller he thought he would win, taking him from first to third place.

Shay was considering picking up Nippon, and was interested in trying it, so I taught him, Pete and Tim this neat game from last year. It's like a lot of What's Your Game games - medium-heavy, and seems harder to play than it is.

It's a game about the industrial boom in Japan, where players build industry and start supplying Japan from within, cutting out the outside companies that used to be sole suppliers to Japan.

Players build factories, run them to produce goods, deliver them to cities and fulfill contracts. All of that is pretty straight forward, the thing that makes the game unique is the action selection mechanism.

All of the actions available have randomly distributed meeples available with them. You must take a worker to take an action. At some point you have to pay for those workers - paying per colour of worker you took. So if you can stick to just one colour, you pay far less than someone who took more colours. You can stop at any point, but you get a bonus for hiring more people, and also consolidating (paying the workers and getting rid of them) is an action, so you get more actions the less often you do it.

I'm finding the game a lot of fun so far - I've only played it twice.

I don't remember who won, I am pretty sure it was between Tim and Shay though.

One of my (so far) failed goals of 2016 was to play more Snowdonia - specifically to get some of the unplayed expansions played.

Gosh, I have taken so long getting back to this list that I don't remember too much about the game, except I thought I had won, and came in a fairly close second. But to who, I don't remember.

Anyway, I do very much enjoy this game, and need to play it a bunch more, especially with the same group so we can try some of those expansions.

I taught this one to Tim T and Jason late in the evening.

It's a weird mix of tableau building and racing on the board, trying to pick up points.

The card part reminds me a little of Innovation (others have said Glory to Rome, which I don't think is as good a comparison)

Again, I didn't win, and I don't remember who did.

I have enjoyed both of my plays of this one, but I'm not sure it will hit the tables very often.

This was the play of the day, for me.

Sitting on two points, I picked up the Countess while holding a Guard and played her straight away. The next two players guessed King and Prince, and I was able to Knock them out using the information they gave me!

Now I'm sitting on 3 points and get the Princess and the Countess in the same hand. Everyone was psyched out from the last round and refused to guess higher cards, handing me the game! laugh

Suggested this to the rest of the lunch guys to set up and familiarise themselves with while we played Splendor. Things went surprisingly well, managing to almost immediately defeat Lancelot, and repel the first wave of Picts likewise. This despite pulling up several special black cards almost immediately.

Excalibur almost met oblivion in the meanwhile, but a concentrated effort of four knights on a relaxed fishing trip gallant quest bought it back to the realm.

The Holy Grail was being attended to the entire game but was retrieved safely. Despite some suspicious acting from someone the game ended with everyone proving themselves to be loyal.

The Black Knight and the Dragon were left to their own lonely devices.
