In advance of my house move out of the area and the fact that, from July, my ability to host / attend the club is likely to be even more limited, I thought it was time to transfer how we record the games we play to BGG. This will allow anyone to record the information about games played (scores, ratings etc.) and comments to be added about anything noteworthy about the session.

My suggestion is that the main entry for each game follows the format:

Date Played
List of those playing in the order of their finishing position showing:
Name (Rating out of 10 for the game in brackets) and score

Then any commentary can be added as a comment to the entry.

e.g. for the Artisans of Naqala session on 3rd June, the entry would be:

3rd June 2016
Mark K (8) 160
Nige (8) 141
Guy (8) 140
Felix (8) 137

The 2017 list of games played is in this geeklist here

There were 6 of us this evening so we played Viticulture. John got the perfect start by building 2 high scoring vineyards straight off and getting into wine production. I started with an extra worker and by being first I had the most workers early on. It was really a two horse race but in the end I couldn't catch John who achieved a well earned victory.

John 1st
Nige 2nd
Rose 3rd
Andrew 4th
Nicki 5th
Mark 6th.

Mark and I played the original netrunner back in the day and so decided to play the new version. Mark started off as the runner with me playing the corps. Mark was playing as Noise, me as NBN. Sadly Mark made no noise as I beat him 7-0. We swapped over..I played as Carlos Santiago and Mark the Weyland Foundation. This time the runner won 7-0. We had a rematch and it was another 7-0 victory. 21-0 in total ...oh dear! Still Netrunner is really good. Definitely one to play again

Mark brought along Nations & expansion. The expansion contains new nations, turmoil cards which can change your special ability or give you gold and some natural wonders. In our game Mark raced off to an early lead getting some good colonies and getting his engine going fast. The rest of us were always in catch up and we never got there, with Mark winning very easily. On a personal note I played horribly, just never getting going. My main complaint with Nations is that if you fall behind I think it is difficult to catch up. I liked the new additions but I felt the game lasted a long time .....it did outstay its welcome a bit. Still I still like it....unlike Nicky who hated it

At long last I got to play Twilight Struggle. I have been wanting to play this for ages. I was the Russians ...just call me Commrade Nige and Mark was Uncle Sam. My opening hand was weird. I got all three of the scoring cards in it. This was great on the one hand but on the other there was not much I could set up. However I set up quite enough to get quite a healthy early lead. As we progressed to finish the early war I was on 19 points ...just one away from Victory but I just couldn't land that one vital point to win. Mark pulled it back from the brink to me being about 8 points ahead when we stopped just at the end of the mid war.
I must confess I was slightly disappointed in Twilight Struggle. It has always been right at the top in the geek and I was expecting great things. Don't get me wrong it is a good game but I think that die rolling luck and who gets the scoring cards ( and in our game I got loads) makes a huge difference to the outcome. It is often compared to 1960 Making of the president and I must confess I much prefer that. Would give it a 7.5 aaaaarrrgghhh can't remember Mark's rating.blush If you read this Mark add it below

John wanted to play Le Harve and it's a game I've been wanting to play too so Mark K taught it to us both. I got off to a slow start, and kept being blocked from collecting iron, but finished off quite well, having a good food engine throughout. John didn't build many buildings and struggled at times with food and money, and both myself and John got in the way of each other in the latter stages but he converted a lot of goods at the end to pick up a lot of points and had some valuable ships. Mark's previous experience showed and he beat us both quite comfortably, he was also the only one to pick up any bonus points.

Well here are my 6 picks. I have to say that I didn't think 2016 was a vintage year until I came to pick my favourites and there were 8 games on my list . So couldn't be such a bad year after all!!!
So here are the six that made the cut :-

Food Chain Magnate....and only cost me a fiver too!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gallerist

Agricola farmers of the moor....this expansion improves Agricola considerably

Hat trick - players expansion

Shakespeare backstage

Terraforming Mars

Having compiled my list I realise that 3 of the games are expansions...go figure I normally hate expansions as most of the time I don't think they add much.

Well Garry at least you have played one of mine!!!!!!!
