The Ultimate Card Game Tournament: Round 3 (The Top 20)
- Tony Ackroyd(1000rpm)United Kingdom
I've loved card games for as far back as I can remember. I used to play simple games with my sister, then I played a lot of cribbage with my mum (usually in the garden in the summer - a glorious memory), then lots of games (usually 'take that!' games like Oh Hell) with kids at school, moving on to more strategic games in college like Contract Whist (aka Nomination) and Great Dalmuti (aka Presidents and Arseholes). However it was only when I discovered Boardgamegeek that my eyes were opened to some amazing games like Coloretto, 6 Nimmt! and No Thanks.Recommend
Round 1 (106 Entrants):
Round 2 (The Top 40):
No doubt you'll be familiar with the format of this list, but I don't think its ever been done for card games. Hopefully this round will determine the 8 best card games ever - and we'll move on from there.
1. Vote once for the better card game in each match-up
2. Vote by clicking on the Thumb for the game you want to win each match-up
3. Add a comment if you want, but note that comments will NOT count as votes
This round ends Sunday, May 6th at 11:00 pm BGG time.
If you've been following these lists you'll see a pattern - I love the concept of Wild Cards! So when I came to set up the games for Round 3 I couldn't help but throw in the top 4 'losers' from Round 2 as Wild Cards. This also gives us a 'Top 20 Card Games' list.....
This Round the Wild Cards will play against each other and any winning Wild Card that scores more votes than a winning game in the main competition will knock that game out and replace it in Round 4.
The games were seeded according to their results from Round 1. The Top 20 seeds (those that remain) have their seedings noted on this list.
In the last round, Wild Card "The Spoils" got 80 votes, which was enough for it to displace Tichu (74 votes) from the main competition, despite it beating 6 Nimmt! Do not dispair though, Tichu fans, it still makes the Top 20 as a Wild Card due to its high number of votes. Galant losers St. Petersburg, Settlers and Bang! also scrape in as Wild Cards.
VOTING NOW CLOSED! You can see Round 4 here:
