I discovered Yucata.de in 2005 when I wanted to buy additional components for Kahuna. I needed some more island marker for my wife, because she often occupied more islands than she had marker for.
On Yucata.de I meet the author of Kahuna and he kindly send me more markers. I started to practice Kahuna on Yucata.de.
3 1/2 year later I asked Sparhawk how difficult it is to implement a game. My last experience had been ten years (Pascal) and twenty years (Basic) ago.
He offered me the opportunity to try it and suggested Richelieu as my first game. The game had been sold out, but he had been able to buy one game on ebay. So I had been able to play teh game offline first.
The biggest hurdle had been the installation of the development environment and I needed a lot of support from Sparhawk.
I received a long list of remarks, when he play-tested my first implementation a month before the game went online.

A developer had started to implement Vikings, but didn't finished it. After I play-tested the game with my wife I decided to take over the project.
I received the graphics in June of 2008. Before the game went online end of September, Sparhawk send me two more long lists with feedback (a-q) and (a-o).

I only implemented the basic rules. Later another developer added a variant to this game.

In march 2009 Sparhawk suggested a developer face-to-face meeting. And some days later he wrote to the developers that we probably can get the licence for Stone Age.
After all five developers joined the meeting for a weekend (17.04 - 19.04) in Kassel. There we discussed a lot about improvements in the future, but we also played some games. I played Stone Age for the first time and liked the game immediately. So I decided to implement it.
Before only a few games had be in development in parallel. But now the games in development slowly increased. Therefore it got impractical to store the strings used in the games in one central file.
So Stone Age has been the first game with an own string resource file.
The games I implemented before had straight action sequences. Stone Age has some more special cases and interruptions. Because of my inexperience the code finaly had a very bad structure. Don't know why it runs anyway
The code is very secure - nobody can change it without destroying the game whistle

08.10.2009: Sparhawk asked the author Ralf zur Linde if we can do Finca. Less than an hour later he received the okay!

This is the first game where we dived the work into to separate work packages. Sparhawk defined and implemented the interface between logic and User Interface. Then I implemented the User Interface.

Yucata.de also provides rules pages in german and english for each game. Normally a developer starts with the rule pages at the very end after he finished the game implementation. At this time the motivation has reached the lowest point. In this case (on for some more games) SugarBob supported us and created the rules pages. Thank you!

This game hadn't been plublished when Sparhawk got a draft of the rules and board layout in November 2009. We wanted to do this game together again. The goal was to be finished in March. Finally I did the implementation alone.

During the implementation the rules changed a little bit. In a first draft it had been possible to block a space like in Just 4 Fun. This rule had been removed during development. Also the arrangement of the colours on the board changed.
We received the final version of the rules two weeks before the game went online. As far as I know this is the first game where the Yucata-logo is printed in the rules. Again SugarBob did the html-version of the rules.

A father and his young son (both member of the Yucata-community) wanted to produce an explanatory video by using the online version of the game. The first attempts had been very promising. But project had never been finished, because of a very sad reason: The father died all of a sudden.

One month later the author G√ľnter Burkhardt gave us green light. Before the publisher also said okay.

When Sparhawk, my wife and I played the game on Essen fair we liked it instantly. This game would fit very well for Yucata.de

All games I implemented so far had one thing in common: For all games images of the artwork had be available. But this game only consists wooden components. Therefore no artwork did exist.
In April Sparhawk found a hobby artist who wanted to contribute. He designed a game board with buildings and a landscape with streets and a river. I liked the idea, but finally the publisher decided that
a professional artist should do the graphics.
Also the author of the game had a lot of wishes how things should work. This generated a lot of work for me. I had to change many details before everybody had been satisfied.
During the development I got a little bit annoyed, because it felt like hard work and not like a spare time project any more. But after I had finished the game I had been satisfied, too. In my opinion the result of the game is great and Roll through the Ages is a real success on Yucata.de

If I remember correctly two yucata-players tried to find a developer for Luna. They know the publisher and knew that Yucata can get a licence. So they persuaded me to try the game.
The publisher send my a copy of the game in the second week of November 2010. I played
the game with my wife and I liked it.
End of November I received the graphic files. Then a long period (6 month?) of unsuccessful attempts followed to find a layout within the allowed game window size (~990x650 pixel). I did not find a proper solution.
I almost had given up! Finally I used a bigger window size and finished the implementation after 9 month.

Two month after we got the graphic files from the publisher the game went online.

When I have had finished the game in August, Brer Bear had almost been finished with Rattus. Sparhawk asked us which game should go online first. Brer Bear answered that Hawaii can go first. Rattus followed one month later.

I already had Targi on my project list when I changed my mind and did Hawaii first. But Targi stayed on my list and so I did it next.

In the meanwhile Eibe Itu improved the game framework. The handling with the status string got easier. He also added the undo-feature for a single action. Before you only could reset the complete move.
But unfortunately I didn't considered the impact of this new feature when I created the internal states of the game. Due to this design I got trouble when I wanted to save the status during the game. Saving the status is necessary if you reveal hidden information during your move. Because I wanted to support the undo-button I omitted the saving.

First I only had the graphics with german card text. So I reworked all the cards an repleaced the german text with an english translation.
I received the original english graphics one month after the game went online. As far as I can remember I wanted to replace them, but never did it whistle

All the time I had close contact to the author Andreas Steiger. He also play-tested the implementation before the game started the beta phase.

We wanted to have this nice game online some years earlier, but we didn't get the licence then. Later we got the licence and so I started in March 2013 with the implementation.
This game had been online on a different website before and I got all the graphics and screen layout.

Normally Yucata shows hand cards open if the player took the cards from an open stack, because a game can be played over days and weeks. We had a long discussion with the author until he allowed the "open information" variant.

The orignal card game contains a special camel card as a little joke. One camel carries a panda (from the game Zooloretto). http://boardgamegeek.com/article/5610378
I also added the card to the yucata version:
if (RandomNumber(100) == 96) {
graphic = 'cardcameljoke.png';
}
