With the myriad sources of game news coming out of hundreds of publishers, large and small, it's difficult for even the informed gamer to know which releases to look forward to. This list is an attempt to aggregate what the BGG community as a whole is anticipating, omitting my own personal biases as much as I can.

This is a list of games sorted by what I call the "buzz score", that is, the number of wishlists the game is on minus the number of owners that game has. Most of the time, this will highlight games that are not yet released, but games may stay on the list after their release depending on how much people want them, and how quickly people have bought them. Obviously, games must be in the BGG database to be considered, but after that, there are no criteria beyond wishlists and owners.

I will post an updated version of this list about every two months. Here are some previous lists:

Sep/Oct 2016
Jul/Aug 2016
May/Jun 2016
Mar/Apr 2016
Jan/Feb 2016

There is also a subscription thread for this Geeklist series. If you wish to receive a notification when I post future versions of this list, go over to The Buzzlist: Anticipated Releases - Subscription Thread and subscribe.

Thanks to wildthayne, this list now has its own microbadge! Check it out here: mb

Terraforming Mars

Specs: 1-5 players, 90-120 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 6055 wishlists, 4252 owners

[Previous List: #9 (1080)]

Set in the 25th century, Terraforming Mars is a competitive board game about transforming the surface of Mars to better suit human habitation. Players take on the role of corporations, each of whom has a unique advantage in a certain part of the terraforming process. Players acquire and complete various project cards, which vary greatly in difficulty and reward. Through these projects, players aim to raise the temperature, oxygen, and ocean levels, and score for furthering these goals. Once those three conditions reach the optimal level, the game ends and victory is assessed.

Release Notes: This game from Stronghold Games and Rebel.pl was released at GenCon in August. The game currently appears to be out of stock due to high demand, with a reprint due in late January.

Gloomhaven
Design: Isaac Childres (Forge War)
Specs: 1-4 players, 60-120 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 1842 wishlists, 347 owners

[Previous List: #6 (1193)]

Gloomhaven is a cooperative dungeon crawling game with enemies that are controlled by the rules rather than a player. Each turn, players will play a set of two cards from their hand, each of which has an initiative number as well as two sets of abilities. The initiative determines turn order, and players must choose which of the two abilities they want to use on each of their cards. This is a "legacy" style game with persistent gameplay that will affect future game sessions--each choice the players make will change how the story unfolds.

Release Notes: This game from Cephalofair Games successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign in September 2015. They expect to ship to backers in early 2017.

Stats: 2895 wishlists, 1590 owners

[Previous List: #3 (1845)]

Inis is a multiplayer conflict game set in a historical Celtic setting. The game revolves around action cards, which are drafted 7 Wonders-style at the start of each round. These cards can be used for a variety of actions, from moving units around the board, building new structures, revealing new map tiles, etc. Sometimes a maneuver will result in a conflict, for which there is no random element, just card play. Some actions can result in the player drawing an "epic tales" cards, which have stronger effects. The game end is triggered whenever a player either controls areas with 6 opponent units, controls 6 areas, or is present in areas with 6 shrines--whoever achieves the most of these objectives wins.

Release Notes: This game from Matagot was released at Essen. It should now be generally available.

[Previous List: #7 (1189)]

The 7th Continent is a cooperative game in which players take the role of explorers who are returning to a mysterious new continent that they have discovered in an attempt to remove the curse it has put on them. As the players explore this continent, new terrain cards will be added to increase the play area. Players each have an action deck which allows them to face challenges they meet on the terrain cards; this deck consists of both items and skills the players can use, as well as success indicators that determine whether they pass skill checks. While the game takes many hours to play, it features a saving mechanism whereby players can preserve their progress for the next session.

Rising Sun, billed as the spiritual successor to Blood Rage, is a light wargame that takes place in feudal (and mythological) Japan. Negotiation (and backstabbing) are core to the game's experience; however, negotiated alliances are formalized and players who break such alliances will decrease on the honor track, earning them penalties in their future interactions. The game will feature a variety of unique miniatures similar to the offerings in Blood Rage.

Release Notes: Cool Mini Or Not will be launching a kickstarter project for this game in Q1 2017.

Specs: 3-6 players, 30-60 minutes, Age 14+
Stats: 784 wishlists, 4 owners

[Previous List: #23 (775)]

Chronicles: Origins is a civilization game with two distinct types of games included. In the first type of game, players take on the role of leaders of a small stone age culture, guiding that culture through harsh environments and toward prosperity. After this stone age game has been played a number of times, the successful tribes created by these games can be combined into a bronze age game where the tribes have evolved into competing city-states. Naturally, only some of the city-states will survive this game, and those in turn can be used as the basis for a later-period Chronicles game that will be released at a later time. This successive journey through history is the basis for the designers' "Echo System", which will be featured in the Chronicles series of games.

Release Notes: This game from Artana will launch a kickstarter campaign at some point.

Buzz Score: 746

Adrenaline
Design: Filip Neduk (Goblins Inc.)
Specs: 3-5 players, 30-60 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 1400 wishlists, 654 owners

[Previous List: Just Missed (516)]

Adrenaline is an attempt to translate a first-person shooter video game into the board game world. Players move their pawn around the board, grabbing weapons and ammo, and shooting the other players' pawns. Weapons are represented by cards, and each weapon in the game is unique and works in a different way. Upon dealing damage to another player, a player places his blood token on that player's board. As a player becomes more damaged, the actions he can take become more effective. When a player's health is reduced to zero, whoever has inflicted the most damage scores the most points, the second-place player scores the second-most points, and so on. That player's pawn then respawns at full health, losing none of his weapons or ammo, but is worth less to other players on his future deaths. The game can be played in one of three end-game scoring modes: one giving extra points for kill shots, one giving extra points for controlling weapons depots, and the last giving extra points for controlling turrets.

Release Notes: This game from Czech Games Editions was released at Essen in October, but distributors appear to have been shorted their allotments. The game may be hard to find until they do another printing.

Caravan is a bit of an experiment in marketing a board game to different audiences. The game will come in two different editions--the Spice Road Edition and the Crystal Golem edition. The two different editions will feature identical gameplay, but different art and components, with the Spice Road featuring art revolving around medieval trading and wooden cubes, and the Crystal Golem having more of a science fiction/fantasy theme and plastic crystals. The game itself is a contract-fulfillment deck-building game, where you're trying to use your cubes/crystals to fulfill contracts and gain those cards, which in turn will give you more resources, allow you to upgrade your resources, or give you more room to hold those resources.

Cottage Garden is regarded by many as an expanded version of Rosenberg's two-player tile-laying game Patchwork. Players take tetris-like flower tiles from a central market board with a gardener pawn that moves around it, and try to fill their garden boards, avoiding spaces that will grant extra points. When a player's board is complete, they can get a new board to fill. Once the gardener pawn has made five laps, the game ends and completed garden boards are scored.

New Angeles
Design: James Kniffen (Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game, Forbidden Stars)
Specs: 4-6 players, 120-240 minutes, Age 14+
Stats: 850 wishlists, 271 owners

[Previous List: Just Missed (485)]

New Angeles is a semi-cooperative game in Fantasy Flight's Android universe. Players take on the role of corporate moguls who are collectively trying to run the city of New Angeles, dealing with threats like crime and disease, all while trying to turn a profit. Players will play various cards to help the city as proposals, and the others will vote on which proposal will be enacted. Before the game, players will be dealt a hidden Rival card depicting another player's corporation--at the end of the game, all players who have a higher capital than their rival will win the game. However, each time players fail to deal with threats to the city, a federal marker is increased, and if that hits the end of the track, the government takes over and all players lose. One last twist--one of the Rival cards anoints a player as the Federalist, and that player has no rival but only wins if the government takes over.

Release Notes: This game from Fantasy Flight Games should now be generally available.

The Oracle of Delphi
Design: Stefan Feld (The Castles of Burgundy, Trajan)
Specs: 2-4 players, 70-100 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 1514 wishlists, 969 owners

[Previous List: #8 (1134)]

In The Oracle of Delphi, players sail around a modular map board, racing to complete the twelve tasks set forth to them by Zeus. Among other things, these tasks will include picking up and delivering offerings to temples, and defeating mighty monsters. On a player's turn, he will roll three dice with colors as sides, which will determine which actions the player may perform that turn. Naturally, these die results can be modified by turning in earned favors. Unlike other recent Feld game, this game has no victory points--the first player to complete all twelve tasks is the winner.

Release Notes: This game from Hall Games and Tasty Minstrel Games should now be generally available.

Players begin by moving their pawn around in town to recruit adventurers and getting equipment for them. Pawns can then embark on an adventure by moving onto the map board to establish camps for money and gems, defeat bandits, and encounter stories. The stories provide text and rewards from a booklet similar to Above and Below, but they are fixed to given locations. To provide variety, the game comes with a number of different maps that are intended to be played sequentially, in a campaign.

Release Notes: This game from Red Raven Games was funded on Kickstarter in Summer 2016. They expect to ship to backers in May 2017.

There are four types of cards, but mostly they have a cost, an immediate bonus, and then have text that can contribute to an engine you're building.
