This list is a place to add games played by the Shrewsbury Boardgames Club in 2017. Our list for the second half of 2016 is here. Earlier session reports right back to 2001 are stored on the Trickylight website here.

Suggested format for each entry:

Date Played
List of those playing in the order of their finishing position showing:
Name (Rating out of 10 for the game in brackets) and score

Then any commentary can be added as a comment to the entry.

e.g. for the Artisans of Naqala session on 3rd June 2016, the entry would be:

3rd June 2016
Mark K (8) 160
Nige (8) 141
Guy (8) 140
Felix (8) 137

20th January. Nige wins in award shocker!!

Nige 67pts
Steve 66pts
Mark K 65pts

We thought Nige had won handily, but his lead in terraforming (Helped by playing United Nations Mars Initiative) was not matched by tiles on the board, he did have a small amount of pts on cards and he obtained 5pts from the 16 cards in hand award and even harder to swallow he won 5pts from the scientist award funded by myself. (who only got 2pts from it)

Mark K (Phoblog) used his initial titanium to rain asteroids of various sizes down onto the surface and picked up a number of milestones and awards, but his starting position in terraforming points was low.

Myself (Teractor) was the only plant grower and used it to good effect to turn the martian surface green and place 3 cities, but just missed out to Nige on the final milestone, before I could claim the greenery award and despite having 6 science tags from early on could only manage second place. I did claim the landlord award.

I have been wanting to play this for ages- and with Gameslore finding some extra copies a purchase for me was inevitable.

The game is all about transporting Cattle to Kansas City and from there to various stations in the USA. Along the way you encounter buildings which you can use to carry out various actions.

Steve went for the buildings strategy and gained a lot of VPs for putting buildings on the board. Mark went for the obtaining lots of breeds of cows. I also bought lots of cows but managed to acquire some strategic stations and John went for a balanced strategy.

The game was really close as I managed to beat Steve by just 2 points. It was getting the early stations and a good selection of objective cards that just managed to win the day.

We all really enjoyed it ...another excellent game by Alexander Pfister. I also really enjoyed Mombasa so I think Mr Pfister is a designer to watch.
