Played this one with Tim and Leah and had a great time with it. It's always fun when games have slightly more left field themes especially when they still deliver a good game underneath.

Played this with Leah, Tim, Ian, Mal and Pete. I love the added chaos that having so many players brings. An excellent game in such a small box.

A standout of last year, played with Ian, Mal, Pete and Tim. We ended on a 3-way tie for first place at 54 points each.

I really appreciate how this game generally plays well at any player count. At 5 players you'll build a much less complicated engine with your cards but it's still enough to be satisfying. At 2 you'll build a behemoth that adds 30-45 minutes to the game.

I do think that the sweet spot is 3 or 4 players but I'm still very happy to play with 2 or 5.

Pete taught Keith and I the Spinning Jenny introductory version of this game. I appreciated the need for the intro game but didn't find it all that exciting, especially with the railroaded starting setup.

I would love to check out the full game at some point.

Tim, Tim, Ian and I checked out this collaboration from Bruno Faidutti and Eric Lang.

It's the prisoners dilemma gamified through a system like rock-paper-scissors. There's a couple of special cards and an interesting scoring system to really add more game to a simple concept.

It was great fun watching everyone get stabbed in the back which is perfect of a game about getting the best spoils of the shipwrecked treasure.

I love Imperial Settlers and have put off trying this one as I've heard a lot of people say it's better than Imperial Settlers (silly of me I know).

This is definitely a far more cut-throat race whereas Imperial Settlers is more of an efficiency optimiser given its fixed round limit. Imperial Settlers also has the deck building elements if you choose to take it that far.

I really appreciate both games and would happily play either but I think for me personally Imperial Settlers still pips 51st. I just prefer the efficiency of actions challenge over the race to victory challenge.

Ian cleaned up and won this one by something like 10-15 points.

I came with my son and we played a few games. This was the first, it looked pretty light and with the little robots and shark figures in there the idea was an instant hit with Seth. We played it out till one player lost both robots, in this case they were both his. It was a fun game but once was definitely enough.

After playing this one together for the first time at the last Thornlie meet we thought it was worthwhile playing again to make sure we had it down pat. It was pretty straight forward which was good; Seth broke out to an early lead and I couldn't catch up; added in with that I didn't have enough fishermen to feed all my peeps and I ended up getting my ass handed to me. Yes he's still telling me about it.

After Vikings we had a crack at Forbidden Island, this was a new game for us but it was pretty easy to figure out. We had a pretty tight race to collect the treasure and were about to win it when we got the Waters Rising card twice in a row and the Fool's Landing card appeared both times we drew cards; and we all drowned. It was a fun game nonetheless.

I left for a while to take Seth home and have some tea, I walked back in just as Nick, Sharon and Elaine finished a game so I was lucky enough to jag a table straight away. Nick offered to teach Elaine and myself Thunderbirds, in particular using the Tracy Island expansion.

I've got to say this game took me a while to pick up; there is a reasonable amount of planning that has to occur with each move and it took me a bit to get it. Elaine seemed to pick it all up pretty quick. I'd like to play it again now that I (think I) have a handle on it.

After Thunderbirds Elaine went home (about 10:15pm) and Nick, Sharon and I were still up for playing. There were a few others around still gaming so Nick proposed Firefly which I hadn't played before.

Around 12:15am Sharon and I both reached a (revised) Goal 1 and we decided to call it quits. Over on the other table Shay and Ian (I think? - I'm just going off those previous posts about Happy Salmon etc, I haven't met them properly yet) were still going strong on 51st State.

I really liked this game and am keen to play it out again; the theme worked really well for me, it wasn't too complicated and there was always something happening to keep you occupied. Cheers to Nick and Sharon for their patience with me too; they're good teachers

Mal, Pete and myself played this great reworking of Pandemic. Having to build railroads to aid movement, as well as disease cubes moving once you build a hospital make this version different enough from the original. We managed to research only two of the four diseases needed to win before outbreaks ended the game.

Mal, Tim and myself played the 2010 version of this new edition. I was slightly rusty on the rules so there was a bit of rulebook checking early on, but once we got going the game flows really well. I had actually forgotten how much I like Vinhos, which is a lot. I had also forgotten how bad I am at it... Tim won pretty convincingly.

Wrapped up my night playing this with Pete, Tim and Jason. It's an engaging slightly-more-than-filler area control game from Aussie designer Phil Walker-Harding, and you're trying to build monuments in Egypt and be crowned the best architect.

On your turn you can collect building blocks, load them on a boat, or sail a boat to a monument. Each monument is built in a different shape and has unique scoring conditions. When a boat gets to a monument the blocks are unloaded in the order they were loaded onto the boat and the monument is scored for the round. Play 6 rounds and count up the VPs to determine who is Imhotep.

I prefer playing with less players because you lose a lot of control over when and where your blocks go at higher player counts. But there's still a lot of fun to be had with 3 opponents, especially when they all cry out because you've sailed their blocks somewhere they don't want to go.

Despite the theme, this game is really a dice-rolling area-control game. It took us a little while for Richard to teach it to us and for things to finally 'click'. I was fortunate that when I decided to make a push for the end of the game and activate many special abilities all in one turn, it was just enough for the win on 17 points, over Wen Jie on 15, Rebecca on 13, Aneka and Austin both on 12, and Richard on 11.

Kent kindly taught 4 (Wen Jie, Richard, David and I) other this game which has gotten some high praise in some quarters. Having played it, I can now understand why it has the appeal it does for those who enjoy hidden-role type games. We played it twice and I was on the winning team both times, including the second game as Hitler. I would be keen on playing this again with more people to see how the game's rule changes work out.
