As always, I keep a geeklist to organize the games I plan to play (or sometimes merely mention) for my next Wargames To Go podcast. Comments & suggestions from listeners and everyone else are welcome!
After a year spent focusing mostly on the military history of France itself (coinciding with my time spent living there), my next topic will transition me over to the rest of the world. The New World, in this case, because I'm exploring the French & Indian War. I realize that this is part of the Seven Years War, fought in Europe and around the globe. Some have even nicknamed it World War Zero. However, I'm going to try to stick to the North American theater, which is to say the French & Indian War.
This time around, I think there are quite a few games on the topic, including a number of light wargames like I prefer. You'll see several of them below. With the chance to attend both GMT's Weekend at the Warehouse and BGGcon during the upcoming quarter, I'll even have the chance to play some of these face-to-face.

I like the States of Siege series well enough, and have to admit they do a great job giving you a sense of the overall arc of the war. For my birthday my son gave me this game, but he doesn't yet know the REAL gift I'll insist on is having him play it with me. As a solo/co-op type of game, that should be easy.

I've had this a long while, probably acquired a decade ago when I thought I'd teach my kids some US History through wargames. That never happened, but now I'm happy to have this game on my shelf. It should have a few F&I War battles, using its scale & system that looks like (but is different from) Commands & Colors.

Never mind those who say it isn't a wargame, or complain about the Halifax Hammer strategy. Neither of those has ever bothered me at all, and I've played this game countless times. Happy to play it again.

I suppose this is main title wargamers think of when they consider the French & Indian War. I've never played, but have two face-to-face games scheduled at GMT and BGG's upcoming events.

The very first block wargame happens to be an outstanding treatment of Wolfe's assault on Quebec. That's because it includes the naval as well as army aspects, and bluff is an important part of how this battle was fought. I haven't played my copy in many years, and am looking forward to busting it out again.

Oooh! I've enjoyed Academy's previous games in this series, and they are ones I can get my eurogame buddies to play. Not only play, they have a good time with them. Very much looking forward to this one.

Not a wargame, just a marker for the geeklist. Games below this point are ones I don't think I'll get to the table, but want to list anyway.

I don't recall if I own this already or not. If so, I'll at least read the articles and look it over. If not, for once I hope to show some restraint and not go out & buy it.

One of those little games you find once you start digging around the BGG database and geeklists. I didn't know about it before, but it seems easy enough to try.

One of those classroom games developed by Phil Sabine's students, I think. Worth a shot?

As with the Command game, it all depends on whether I already own this or not. I like S&T's accompanying articles so much, I'd be tempted by this one.

Shoot, I think I actually DID buy this one before I realized I need to stop buying more games than I can play! But that's ok, I'd definitely like to look over a treatment of the war from a French designer/publisher's perspective.

It depends on whether I can locate a copy or not. Reviews aren't great, and I think this is in indefinite redevelopment.

Sure, why not? Actually, that will depend on my readthru of the rules, and whether I want to do more PNP wargaming. The collection of battles is nice, though, and you can't beat the price.
I also liked the designer's game on Wake Island, which is a good sign.

A sentimental listing, because it was the first & only time I was part of a wargame playtest team. This is another from the early days of DTP professional wargames, coming from designer Rob Markham. I bet I agreed to playtest after seeing the call go out on consim-l. Not ConSimWorld, I mean the mailing list that predated it. I'm sure I would find the design dated now, but at the time it was an eye-opener about a war I knew little about.

I've had this little PnP gem from the Canadian Wargamers Group for a while. It has a great strategic game (simple but works) and a number of battles listed for miniatures or a generic gaming kit, such as Hold The Line.

I picked this up recently on a sale by Worthington. Have yet to get it to the table. BGG lists the playing time as 90 minutes.
