A heavy gamer went to Heavycon for the first time and is recording the games played.

Thanks to Ed, Amanda, Tony Fryer, and many others for hosting and teaching the many games.

I played 18Ireland to kick off Heavycon. It was a pretty nasty game with 5 players - lots of mergers, blocked stations, and a tight board with limited rails and payouts.

There was a crazy train rush with the 6H trains being bought and never run - it just rusted that same turn.

Fortunately I was able to dump one of my companies to someone else to stave off bankruptcy and won the game.

All in all a great game for 18XX gamers.

So 18Ireland went long - I wasn't able to join in Pax Renaissance.

Instead I played Terra Mystica.

I've played it 8 times and never won - its a fun game but I never win!

So fun to play it again.

To end day 1 I played Founding Fathers (the one you govern the country and get elected president).

It was an intense session of negotiation and political nepotism - I enjoy the negotiations that occurred for popularity cubes (those are VPs) and hopefully the country is not bankrupt!

It was a great game - but 7 hours is the minimum.

While 18Ireland is more of running good companies, 1889 is geared towards using the stock market to destroy stock value.

It is a tighter version of 1830 and so this is my first exposure towards the 1830's series type of game (stock market manipulation).

I enjoy it, but for me the 18xx games I enjoy more is running good companies.

I then played Terraforming Mars.

It is one of the best games from 2016 - I won so it was awesome.

Played Spice Road - it is an advanced version of Splendor.

I thought that the trading cubes as part of the engine building is unnecessary - Splendor cuts it out and is much faster.

Prefer Splendor over Spice Road.

Afterwards I played Concordia Britain with my friends from Phoenix Slivermouse and PHXGamer. I always like to play Concordia so it was a fun break from the really heavy games.

Saturday I started off with German Politics. My party's issues were the opposites from what was what the people wanted, so it was difficult for me to do well. I finished 4th, but it was still fun.

Would play it again.

Tony Fryer taught 18CZ. I had the honor to play with Scott Pedersen and Jeroen (2 18XX sharks).

I finished 4th. Backed the KS and look forward to it. Only thing I didn't like is that you can start a small company and be immediately acquired by the medium/large for the cash. Pay 500 in but the company acquires 1000? Might need a tweak.

I got to play the prototype John Company with Martin, Joe, and Grayson. It was an awesome game - I would say it would be similar to Advanced Bohnanza with kickbacks and nepotism.

Would buy it when it comes out.

Then I played 18CLE - crazy game with Tim, Andrew, and Nicholas. I finished last among the sharks and the game is very unforgiving. The brown phase the company eats you up.

Would play it again but would wait to buy.

I finished the con with Mottainai.

The game was fun - I won with the card that says as long as you have 5 different types of works you win.

That concluded the Heavycon for 2017 for me.
