2017 Calgary (FallCon 30) No-Ship Math Trade
- (B Factor)Canada
Read all rules carefully, even if you're an experienced trader, as this math trade contains some unique rules. This applies doubly to new traders. Lt. Gorman is here to tell us how it's to be done.
If one or more rules is not to your liking, exercise your freedom to not participate. (Participation is a privilege, not a right. And I definitely don't want to deal with anyone with a sense of entitlement—please don't be that guy.)
The moderator makes all final decisions. (The buck stops here. And, fair warning: I believe that preventing problems is better and easier than fixing them. For a math trade, this means blanking want lists for individual items or an entire user, depending on where the problem lies.)
All rules are subject to the "reasonable person" standard of interpretation. (If you're not a reasonable person, find someone who is to help you.)
Subscribe to the discussion thread.
All important announcements and progress updates will be made there.
Do not air grievances publicly.
If any issues arise with other traders, please GeekMail the moderator—do not post publicly (i.e., not in this GeekList, nor the discussion thread, nor anywhere else). I will endeavour to resolve the issue impartially; failing that, I will escalate the issue to BGG admin.
The remaining rules are divided under the headings of Offering Phase, Wants Phase, and Completion Phase. These headings are for organizational purposes only; the rules nonetheless are intended to form a cohesive whole.
Participants screened for reliability, suitability
Ask yourself these two questions:
1. Do I have a feedback rating of 10+?
2. Did I have at least one successful trade in the 2015 Fallcon No-Ship Math Trade or the 2016 Calgary (FallCon 29) No-Ship Math Trade?
If you answered yes to either question, you may offer items subject to the rules described in this header, but with no additional restrictions.
If you answered no to both questions, please send me a GeekMail if you wish to participate; I'll decide on a case-by-case basis and, if permitted, you should expect some limited form of participation. (The first test is the can-you-follow-one-simple-rule? rule. I considered other rules, such as allowing established traders to vouch for new ones, but this seemed most straightforward. )
All games permitted
Any board game, RPG, and video game in the database is permitted in this trade.
Non-games (including cash, gift certificates (GCs), GeekGold) permitted
Any offerings not in the database should be added using one of the game IDs that supports the altname tag, and an appropriate altname tag must be used.
Describe items clearly and completely
Start with an appropriate description from the Marketplace Condition Policy (at bottom of linked page), and follow up with a detailed description of the way(s) in which the item no longer qualifies as New, such as wear or damage to components, a missing insert, etc.
Also specify edition and language of your item, as appropriate; do not write "edition as pictured", since GeekList item images do not appear in the OLWLG.
Item revisions permitted, deletions permitted
Offered items should be edited or deleted as needed; do not "revise" an item's description simply by posting a comment. (The OLWLG now informs users when an item has been changed after adding it to one's wants, so there's no need for the historic rule forbidding major edits. 2. Deletion keeps the GeekList and OLWLG cleaner. 3. This rule should not be abused by submitting items with an intent to provide an accurate description at a later point.)
Answer questions promptly
Other users may comment on your items to ask questions; please answer promptly, and revise your item as needed. (Subscribing to your items may help, or add the following link to your QuickBar: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/items/user/XXXXXX?domain=b... , where XXXXXX is your username.)
Sweeteners allowed, misleading links forbidden
You may (and should) add links to games or items that you wish to include as sweeteners, so that the OLWLG can display them accordingly. Do not add links for any other purpose, lest you mislead the OLWLG and your fellow traders. (Any ambiguity will be interpreted as generosity on the part of the lister.)
Use of the On-Line Want List Generator (OLWLG) is required to submit want lists. (OLWLG wiki page)
Arbitrage expressly forbidden
Do not add cash or gift-certificate items to the want lists for cash or gift certificates that you have offered. Do not add GeekGold items to the want lists for GeekGold that you have offered. (Note that this rule does not forbid GeekGold being "wanted" by (cash|GCs) and vice-versa.)
Your want list, your responsibility
You are solely and wholly responsible for the want lists that you submit via the OLWLG. (Double-checking what you submit is cannot be recommended enough. If something "goes wrong", don't blame the software.)
By submitting wants, you fully commit to conducting whatever trades are assigned by the trade software. Once posted and declared official by the moderator, the results are binding and irrevocable.
Formalize trades via Trade Manager or Geek Market
Any trade legs involving a cash-value item (e.g., gift certificates/cards, PayPal, cash itself) must be formalized via the Geek Market, per BGG's rules on such transactions.
Any trade legs involving anything other than cash-value items must be formalized via the Trade Manager.
Deliver items in condition described
Your item must be delivered to its recipient in as good a—or better than the—condition you described. (If something unfortunate happens to your item prior to delivery, you are nonetheless fully responsible for delivering an item in the same or better condition as was described.)
New traders must deliver first
Any new trader must deliver on any and all resulting trades before they will be permitted to receive items.
No one is permitted to deliver to a new trader without receiving the all-clear from the moderator.
New traders who are to deliver to other new traders will instead deliver to the moderator, who will hold items in escrow.
Anyone receiving from a new trader should inform the moderator, either in person or via GeekMail, of a successful or unsuccessful trade.
(An insurance check, obviously.)
Attendance mandatory at trade meetup
The trade meetup is the default and expected venue for completing all resulting trades. Trading counterparts may mutually agree to complete trades outside of the official meetup (subject to the above rules regarding new traders, where applicable).
Anyone who does not attend the official meetup accepts that he or she may be responsible for paying the cost of shipping to complete trades in the event that all other good-faith efforts at making alternate arrangements have been exhausted. (In other words, show up and you're covered.)
Meetup location and time
The meetup will take place at the SAIT Campus Centre Gymnasium (1301 16 Ave NW, Calgary, AB) on Fri, 22 Sep 2017, 20:00 (-0600).
This is the venue for FallCon 30, but we will be meeting just outside the registration area. Thus, you are not required to attend FallCon to attend the meetup. (Thank you to the organizers of FallCon for providing us this space!)
JeffyJeff's new TradeMaximizer with threading option will be used (unsure what version number this one is using)
