You are once again invited to take part in the monthly Golden Turtleback miniature painting contest.

The contest has kept its original name in honour of its founder David Anderson (turtleback). It's usually run by Cerith Morgan-Jones (Bastion of insanity). I'm merely keeping the contest going until Cerith returns.

Please give this geeklist a thumb to help get it to the front page, and click on the images you thumb and give the actual images thumbs up as well !

The more contestants the better! New painters are more than welcome!

RULES

1) Add the game of the miniature(s) you painted as an item to the list. Insert the image(s) in the body of the entry. Use the format [imageid=xxxxxmedium] where xxxxx is the id of the picture.

2) The image you submit must have been uploaded during August 2017. Gallery images are okay but submitted images are preferred.

3) One entry per person. You may submit images of a single miniature or a group at your discretion.
You may, however, use either:
up to two 'normal' pictures of your entry, usually, the front and back of the miniature(s)
OR
one image of a montage/collage of your entry.

4) You are the artist. Please do not submit miniatures painted by someone else.

5) Make of the mini, scale and paints you used are appreciated.

6) The contest will end on 30 September 2017. The winner will be the picture with the most thumbs. Winners will appear in the next months’ list.

7) Users can thumb as many entries as they like.

In the interests of maintaining a level playing field for all entrants, if an entry does not conform to the above rules, it will be removed. New contestants will be notified beforehand so that they can edit their entry or submit another one that meets all the criteria.

PRIZES

I'm reliant on tips to offer prizes. Any tips received will awarded as follows:

1st place: 35%, plus an exclusive microbadge! Microbadge: Golden Turtleback Painted Miniature Monthly Contest winner
2nd place: 25%
3rd place: 15%
Encouragement Awards: 25% (will be given to non-placing worthy entries with a bias to new participants.)

One random thumber will receive 5 !

Finally finished the fourth fraternity of felines from Fireside Game's "Here, Kitty, Kitty". Started from black, then very gradually built up the grey. Tutorials for each of the feline colors can be found in the "Here, Kitty, Kitty" forum.

Oh man, these poor guys sat on my painting desk for 8 months, about 80% finished... Have you noticed that the longer you ignore the reproachful look these not-quite-finished projects give you, the easier it gets?
Now I finally couldn't stand it any longer and sat down to finish them. It took about two hours, so there's really no good reason, why I put them to the back for so long . As an apology, I'd like to give them some time in the spotlight here in this contest! blush

Long story short, here they are:

Board Game: Wrath of Kings

Board Game: Wrath of Kings

I used Vallejo and Citadel paints and thinned down paints for washes. The larger areas are done with airbrush, everything else with a normal brush. Nothing spectacular on my side, but I very much like the CMON minis here and that each has a different pose, weapon and even hairdo.

Hope you like them, they could use some love *sniff* .

Tsathoggua. This guy is the Orange faction's Great Old One, so I tried adding in the "orange" by having him emerge from lava as well as having translucent orange warts. More attempts at OSL with the lava and glowing green eyes.

GW and Vallejo Game/Model colors used.

A Reaper Bones miniature I had a long time ago so that I could reach free shipping. I was inspired by Luke Cage and the classic Powerman costume colours. It was a simple miniature but I was really happy with the shading on it. Vallejo colours, only a couple of hours work.

The only thing I painted in August to completion. Wave 6 Imperial light carrier. Decided to emblazon it with a scorpion sting, which is also the Nod emblem from C&C, came out nice. Smaller ship, gave it time I felt was reasonable. Very flat, about 3" triangle.

These are the Blood Apes from Descent 2nd edition. I'm slowly working my way through the massive mound of plastic for this game. Had fun trying out some new paints on these.

Board Game: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition)

I didn't go with the card art and opted instead for two "normal" gorillas and one white gorilla. No basing, b/c I'm planning to get double duty out of these guys and use them in Frostgrave and the upcoming Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago.

Paints:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Normal Gorilla (prime black; skin-VJ German Gray; highlight with Reaper Stone Grey and Weathered Stone; Washed one of them with Nuln oil and drybrush highlight hair with Stone Grey; Teeth-VJ off white; Eyes-VJ off white followed by Citadel waywatcher green glaze; Mouth-Scalecolor Orkish dermis w/ citadel carib crimson wash).

White Gorilla (prime white; Skin-warcolours flesh 3, citadel reikland fleshshade, highlight with flesh 3; Hair-wash with homemade D&R Payne's Gray ink wash; Eyes-as above, but glaze with warcolours blue ink)

Received these in miscellaneous box of minis a while back and finally figured they needed some paint. Wasn't even sure what game they were for. Thankfully, there are a lot of helpful people on the BGG forums.

I used them just to practice some different speed painting tricks. The barbarian and the wizard, were solely painted with Secret Weapon Washes. Others used a combination of Army Painter paints and GW washes in limited quantity. Sadly, the wizard got "fuzzed" with primer (what i get for using spray primer on a hot day).

I was trying to upload close shots of this set. Been painting my godfather game. These are thugs and family members from three different families in the game, about an inch and a half tall. CMoN minis. I used mostly reaper paints from their first two paint sets to do these. All in all the three thugs took me about an hour and a half and each family member took an hour plus. These were my first female minis from this set. Anyway, been highly enjoying painting this game, you can see more Godfather minis painted in August on my profile of in the images for the game. Thanks

Better late than never! Forgot to enter these fellas earlier in the month.

These are some Death Guard Plague Marines I did up as Chaos Space Marines for Shadow War. Tried a bit of a different paint scheme with them. I decided to only use colors from the Citadel Essentials starter box on top of Death Guard Green primer to see what I could get out of them. I normally use Vallejo, but wanted to see how the GW paints handled.

Materials used:
Primer: Used an undercoat of Death Guard Green primer from GW.
Base coats and highlights: Citadel paints.
Washes: Agrax Earthshade.
Finishes: Dulcote
