(sorry for the misleading title, I can't put in El Grande base for some reason)

This is now my 6th year doing this and it's easily my favorite part of BGG. Just remember, prospective thrifty Santa -- these are merely lofty suggestions and I do NOT expect to get any of these.

Here it goes...

d10-1 Games I'm currently enjoying: (mostly ripped from last yr)
- Star Wars: Destiny -- I'm IN LOVE with this game system. I dislike the pay model and I avoid LCGs and CCGs for this reason, but this game is so good that I ignore it. Damn you FFG.
- Lords of Vegas -- on paper, I didn't think I'd like the game, too random I thought...but it works
- Istanbul -- Very fun with random set up
- Seasons -- Always come back to this game, I love everything about it.
- Ascending Empires -- my new fix, really enjoy this 4x w/ dexterity
- Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game -- wasn't wowed by the expansion, but still love the base game
- DC Comics Deck-Building Game -- a hate/love family of games. Love the combo-ing, hate the dumb luck when you get the right main deck drops [those *-cards are just too good for too cheap]

d10-2Games I've seen thrifted multiple times (causing jealously):
- El Grande -- I don't need any fancy expansions, I'm just looking for the base game. I started this hobby too late to play the great ones. This would be so lovely to add to the collection
- Tigris & Euphrates -- another classic that I've been dying to try and hoping to thrift...one day I can play this great.
- Manhattan -- always regretted trading this away. 3D area control!
- Burgle Bros. -- a bit lofty expectation but it's something I've wanted. Granted I doubt this has ever been thrift, one can dream.
- PitchCar -- never played, would LOVE to have [I do enjoy Bisikle]
- Jati -- to round out the collection whistle
- Niagara -- I like the gimmick around this game
- Star Wars: Destiny -- probably a pipe dream, but heck Destiny stuff! Zenbin dice holders or packs from various sets, everything!
- Probably a heck more games that I just can't think of at the moment.

d10-3Things I like in games:
- Unique/different mechanics -- I LOVE having a variety of mechanics in my gaming collection
- Euros; more so thinking games.
- Not huge on luck-based games that over stay their welcome.
- Games that fit a larger group, that isn't a party game.
- NOT 2 player games! I rarely get to play 2p games, so don't bother

d10-4Favorite/Less favorite style of games
- I love all games. My group tends to focus more on competitive games rather than co-op games -- some co-ops get a pass, but I'm starting to veer towards them.

d10-5How much do I like?
- Ameritrash
- Eurogames
- Family
- Party
- War
- Strategy

d10-6Game with children?
- No. I play with mostly late 20-30yr olds. Kid games I have no interest in at the moment [I basically have all the kid games I want -- for adults ]

d10-7Anything else **READ THIS**
Hey Secret Santa, I know what you are feeling -- oh shit! This guy's list is ridiculous...no chance in hell that he is getting anything from his 'wants' -- and you are 100% correct. This list is a guide. My wants are all reaches, but that's ok because I love my collection as is. Anything you think I would like, please send away. I give every game a chance. My most important advice to you is check what I own and what I have held previously -- I keep those lists up to date.

SOME random thoughts on previously asked questions:

Themes -- I don't care too much, even if it's pasted on. Though pure abstract games tend to be hit or miss with my group...the pasted-on abstracts do well (ex: Kingdom Builder or Kingdoms). Essentially, theme is no big deal, but it's always nice when the theme integrates with the game.

Other items on Wish/Want list -- my want in trade section tends to be very up-to-date. I've been trying to curb my spending on games so the wants are way down. PLUS, I feel like I only know the most popular stuff -- I don't mind trying something new. You will make me happy if you find a game that has a mechanic that I don't currently have (or a mechanic that is severely under represented in my collection). I love all games...mostly...

Sadly, no other hobbies...I use to do all things Nintendo, but have been slowly stepping away from videogames. I'm full into boardgaming now.

I know my wants are relatively new and most likely unattainable for TSS, BUT honestly, my favorite part of Thrifty SS is how much thought is put into a gift. Also promos, I love promos -- luckily for you, I list everything I have. SO use my OWNED and PREV OWNED section.

*Still a work in progress...I think...

Edit:
MERRY THRIFTMAS EVERYBODY

Edit 2:

Hi Santa! (and everyone else who might be reading this for whatever reason)

1 Dream gift game!
Manhattan. It's probably been on my want in trade list longer than any other game. I don't understand my relationship with abstract games. I tend to have such disdain for them, but sometimes they can be my favorite games. It really has to have a good theme (and art really helps here too.) Patchwork is a great example, it's been one of my favorite releases of the last few years (come to think of it maybe I should have put that as my dream game) it has an oddball theme, good art, and has great verisimilitude.

2 Games we're enjoying?
Rocky Road ala Mode, Cacao, Isle of Skye, R-eco (thanks to the elite elves for that one!)
Games we're hating?
We don't really hate games, there are just some we play less of. For example, we still play Monopoly every once in a great while, we just play it less than any other game in our collection. We no longer play The Game of Life though, because that is not a game.)

3 Our most favoritest styles of game?
Family, Strategy, Abstracts with theme, Euros, Ameritrash
Our least favoritest styles of game?
Ameritrash (yes it goes on both lists), Dexterity, Abstracts without theme, Party, Wargames, I would also add social deduction games here.

4 Games with kids?
I play games with my 6-year old when I can pry his 3DS from his icy grip! We do have a pretty large collection of his own already (his account is not currently up to date, gotta get on that) but we are always looking for more mature games he can play.

5 Santa time?
I prefer a good amount of interaction, (I especially enjoy Santas who come at me with puzzles or goofy rhymes of whatever) but I'm cool with whatever Santa is comfortable with. I'm pretty open, ask away.

6 Other hobbies/interests?
E I enjoy oddball Comics/Graphic Novels that don't have traditional Superheroes. Chew and Saga are 2 of my faves.
E I've started looking for Goosebumps and Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books for my kid to read and love like I did.
E I'm also an AFOL - Adult fan of LEGO (having a kid is a great way to hide your shame there).
E I'm a big fan of dice, especially 6-sided. I like them. I use them, I have a little. I keep them in a gumball machine on top of my gameshelf. I'd like to put more in that machine. That's where you come in.

I would prefer to receive one game high on my wishlist to several I haven't heard of. I actually have a decent amount of empty shelf space on one of my Kallaxes, but I generally choose quality over quantity.

Look at all of you plate holding slackers, not posting real entries! Just kidding; the only reason I'm able to get my list up now is because I'm sitting in the hospital holding my new son (he's asleep) while mommy sleeps.

d10-1 I know it's not likely, but I've been enjoying this game a lot lately.

I now have a copy of Treasure Hunter!

d10-2 Games I'm enjoying:

Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)I like these sorts of games, the problem is finding time.
Scythe My friend backed this on KS and we've been having fun with it.
Orléans: Deluxe Edition My wife loves this game.
Rum & Bones I used to play MOBAs quite a bit and this does a good job at replicating them.
Near and Far Only had a chance to play one game but look forward to trying it out more!
SeaFall playing through with my siblings. Almost done!
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game and Star Wars: Armada(can always use more ships!)
PitchCar A friend is going to help me make some custom pieces soon!

Games I don't like:

Anything with crude humor, a dark theme, heavy magic use, or gore (aka cards against humanity, zombies, Arkham Horror, etc.). My wife doesn't like MtG. Not a big fan of hidden identity games (aka Masquerade)
I don't like co-op games WITH a hidden traitor element. Normal co-op games I love.

d10-3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?

How much do you like:
Abstracts: (I like me a good theme)
Ameritrash:
Dexterity:
Eurogames:
Family:
Party: (really depends on the game, I like Codenames and Snake Oil).
Strategy:
Wargames: (don't have the time or people to play them with)

d10-4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

My nephew is 5 and is starting to like some games (especially Weapons & Warriors Castle Storm / Pirate Clash Game). My son is 21 months so it will be a little while before he starts playing; however he really likes playing with game pieces. I'm up for some good kids games.

d10-5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?

7, however if Santa is too busy I understand and would settle for a message to know he's out there!

d10-6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

I enjoy sci-fi books, but I still have a lot to get through. Sci-fi is my favorite game theme. My wife enjoys games that have attractive artwork like Black Sheep or Above and Below (if it doesn't look fun she doesn't want to learn it).

I'm a real estate agent which gives me nice flexibility for thrifting! I primarily game with a group of guys at our Wednesday night game night's and with my wife (and her family when they're free).

I'm working on a game of my own (hope to send it out for playtesting in the near future) so I could really use colored cubes and some sort of numbered tokens (like the ones in Sentinels of the Multiverse.

I'm always up for expanding my heroscape collection, but don't need any more figures from the ROTV, SOTM, or Marvel mastersets. Anything else is welcome.

If you want to send game components I'm looking for cool coins (like the ones in Dread Pirate) and colored cubes or beads.

I need a new motorized base for Loopin' Chewie, mine died.

d10-7 Which would you prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.

Either way is cool. I don't want you to stress about this; so I'm happy with whatever you can send my way. I'll be updating my collection and wishlist soon. Done.

Thanks Santa!

Hi Secret Santa!

It's ok.

*breath in*

*breathe out*

I will have my lists updated by November 1st!

But I will say no pressure, and I am always happy to receive whatever you wish to send. That being said, my plan is to write this entry from scratch and provide what I hope is helpful information on mechanics, themes, and gameplay I enjoy so you can see what you have and narrow down what you'd like to send based on what you think ill enjoy. However, I invite you to look at my previous entries to obtain maximum lurkertude.

So, in general, how has my gaming changed in the last year? Through general ennui on my part, as well as most of my gaming groups drying up, I don't get a chance to play games like I used to. So, I will say that I am looking maybe to bolster my 2 player gaming collection some. The reason is that the people that I have the most opportunities to game with would be in the 2 player realm and, as we all enjoy strategy, good 2 player games tend to hit both these marks.

Also, I enjoy abstracts a lot as well. I will say, however, my older brother, whom I play abstracts with, has all the gigamic games as well as hive. I do not believe he or I have any of the GIPF Project games.

However, I also greatly enjoy 4 player games as well. Some of my perennial favorites are: Mystery of the Abbey, Dominion, Splendor, Lords of Waterdeep, Ticket to Ride, 7 Wonders, Seasons,Small World

Granted, there are more than those, but gives a good sampling of games I enjoy. When I am playing a game with 4 players, for example, I tend to enjoy games that don't require a compendium, but have depth to them; games I can play many times trying to find strategies to win, try and streamline those strategies, then discover a new strategy or just try another way to win, and go through the process all over. Or just try new things. That's why the game I have the most plays with is dominion. My friend has all the expansions and I've played it more times than I can count. I also love 7 wonders for the same reason. Also, the other games mentioned are like this as well, depending on how well you can execute a particular strategy and, depending on who you are playing with and how the cards fall can make it a new game every time.

See, Secret Santa, no worries, you have 2 player games, abstracts, and those meaty strategic midcards to dip into for potential gifts.

Ah. Coops. I do enjoy coops. I own pandemic, forbidden island, Space Alert, Castle Panic and enjoy them. Luckily I have friends who has cash and get each zombicide season. so I get to play those. So I am tentatively good on coops. The problem that arises for me is at friends game nights everyone brings games and the odds of getting my games to the table are lower and, when every game night seemingly inevitably devolves into one night werewolf or cards against humanity for hours, it's hard for me to convince others to get into a longer game unless I pitch it at the start of the evening.

Which reminds me. I'm good on party games, any derivatives of apples2apples/CAH, and any derivatives of werewolf. Kinda getting real tired of them.

Other categories I will pass on are party games that require public performance or making you look dumb. Charades, and it's ilk for example. Generally dexterity games kinda fall into this as well. Ill pass on any games involving racing. Games with large player counts. Any games that are offensive for offensives sake. Also, super duper heavy games. Not because I dislike them, it rather they would see difficulty in getting to the table, sadly.

Abstracts:
Ameritrash:
Dexterity: (games that involve dexterity like flickemup are ok, but 'dance around to get points' ill pass on)
Eurogames:
Family:
Party:
Strategy:
Wargames: (When I play one ill let ya know ) so I'll say 2.5/5 here

Aw, man, TSS, look at that spread! I can sense your stress leaving you like the leaves on an autumnal winds......

Also, there is a certain class of game that hits an itch for me. One is Time Tripper. Idk why, just enjoy the them and gameplay. That pulpy-liciousness of 60s~80s sci-fi and fantasy. Check out the geek list that resulted:

Pulpy War: Wargames with Monsters, Time Travel, and Dinosaurs

Finally, I am also fine with expansions to games I currently own such as Smallworld, 221B, and others.

Also, I have a podcast!!

Mwahaahheeheeheeee. Shameless plug.

But in all seriousness, while the podcast is not published as much as I like, I do enjoy video game licensed board games. As a result, I have many of them. Insofar as western releases, I believe my podcast proxy account,
Arcade Castle
United States

flag msg tools
mbmbmb
, is up to date. However, release in EU and Asia often are not in the BGG and, as a result, are not reflected on that list.

But there are many I do not have.

[Edit 10-30-17]: The ArcadeCastle User is up to date on what I currently own (that is in the BGGDB anyhow). At the moment I am trying to keep my general games section separate from my VGBG collection, which is represented on the ArcadeCastle account. Please consult that collection if you have a VGBG you'd like to send.

I don't have kids. Buuut I do have a furbaby. She just turned 15! My Cat is 15! Here are some of her favorite games!

Do I have any other hobbies? Hmm. This applies to potential gifts....hmm...I could say I'm a boring sad sack. I enjoy video games, movies, books, comics, fun stuff. I can certainly go in more detail if you wish, TSS. ^-^

One gift, or several? Hehe. That one machine at the beginning of Garfield's Christmas Special. Lol. J/ k. I will be happy with anything you send.

Also, TSS, thanks ahead of time. I know communication is dependent on your schedule but let me know you are alive and maybe some fun communiques. [Edit 11117] my lists should be current. I did try and go through a could thrift lists to add more stuff that interests me to my wish list to try and give a better cross reference of things that interest me.

Hi! I've done several exchanges in the last year however this will be my first TSS. While my good friend and roommate will occasionally indulge me with a game most of my gaming is done at Meet-Ups or other game gatherings.

A Your dream gift game!
There are plenty more games that I would like but I already have so many that still need to be played... Charterstone? Snowdonia? I certainly DON'T expect either one! This spot goes to a solo playable game or expansions/bling for a game I already have. It really doesn't take much to make me happy.

B What games are you enjoying the most right now?
At the beginning of the year I started Game Day during lunch with four of my co-workers (occasionally more will join in). Because we only have 1/2 hour they have to be games that only take about 25 min. so I've been rotating The King Commands, Hanabi, Flapjacks and Sasquatches, Poo: The Card Game, We Didn't Playtest This At All, Ricochet Robots (We played four against one last time and still lost decisively) and Codenames.

When I get to a game night Isle of Skye: From Chieftain to King, Alhambra, Century: Spice Road, Russian Railroads, and Istanbul have been hitting the table most often with some filler games to round it out.

At home it is mostly solo as my roommate and I have conflicting schedules and she doesn't really care for games. Star Realms: Colony Wars, Friday and Pencil Park have been getting played most often recently.

Which games do you hate?
I dislike fiddly combat games (not that I've played any...). Getting into CCG's would just be bad for me. Murder mystery and social deduction can find another audience as well as anything that requires an app to play.

C What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:
Abstracts: ?
Ameritrash:
Dexterity: I've only played a couple of these: Rhino Hero: Super Battle , Junk Art , Jenga
Eurogames:
Family:
Party: If you're referring to Apples to Apples, Trivial Pursuit, Wits & Wagers, One Night Ultimate Werewolf etc.
Party: For games such as Codenames
Strategy: I like some strategy but I'm not very good at thinking/remembering more than 1 or 2 moves ahead.
Wargames: Decades ago I played and enjoyed Divine Right. I'm not into the military campaign style of game.

D Do you play games with children? If so, what ages? Several times a year. I have two local nieces (17, interested in Japan, plants and school... and 7, enjoys many things including LEGOs) and two nephews (13, he's a gamer and 10, LEGO Maniac) that I see maybe monthly depending on schedules and activities.

E How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I would love some interaction! Just as much as Santa is comfortable with.

F What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
I am a collector at heart and have collected a great variety of things over the years from coins and postage stamps to LEGOs and Christmas ornaments. Most of my collections I'm working on thinning as I have only so much room and time. And while I like to collect stuff I also take great joy in giving, particularly filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. I also enjoy reading science fantasy/fiction and anything else that catches my eye.

G Which would you prefer to receive?
I will be very happy with whatever works best for Santa. Pre-tested, new, or P-n-P; game, expansion, or accessory; playable, displayable, edible, or wearable.

My first year of Thrifty Santa, very excited to join!

E Dream gift game: Anything high on my wishlist would be appreciated, of course. But, the original Descent is the one I actually see thrifted from time to time.

E Games I'm enjoying

Pandemic: seeing more table time after a long absence, my daughter now old enough to participate
Sol: Last Days of a Star: recently picked up, have enjoyed the first couple plays quite a bit
878: Vikings – Invasions of England: has been an immediate hit, replacing one of it's predecessor games 1775, which had been a favorite
Deception: Murder in Hong Kong: has gone over very well the last couple of times we've played it
Conan: has been a favorite since it first arrived. It's a great blend of strategy, luck, and theme. My wife and I go back to it time and again and almost always have a great time with it.

E Not so much:

Spyfall: I love bluffing games, but I feel this one asks too much of new players
Dungeons & Dragons Dice Masters: Battle for Faerûn: tried recently, not especially suitable, very much like Quarriors!, which I tried years ago and also didn't love.
Pickomino: can run a bit too long for a dice game filler.
Valdora: I enjoy other Schacht games (like Zooloretto, Drive, Africana), but not this one, just too much pick up and deliver, and too little anything else.
Gloomhaven: this one was initially intriguing, but ultimately gave up on it as the set up/administration of the game was simply too onerous.

E How much I like

Abstracts: Sometimes these catch on, but seldom for very long.
Ameritrash: Almost all of my favorite games fall within this category. Theme, conflict, and a dose of luck, are all desirable, but a tight design and opportunities for strategic decision making are crucial as well.
Dexterity: My family enjoys these from time to time, but few seem to get more than a few plays.
Eurogames: I've certainly tried my share of these, but most lack sufficient conflict and/or theme to land among my favorite games.
Family: This category is seeing a lot more action of late. My six-year-old daughter seems willing to try just about anything we set up to play.
Party: These get a fair amount of play with one particular gaming group. Many for just a play or two, but others (like Deception: Murder in Hong Kong) get a regular spot.
Strategy: Strategy is good.
Wargames: I've tried a few war games, but none have really caught on.

E Games with kids: A majority of my plays are with my six-year-old daughter. Her favorites are Outfoxed, Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters, and Clue Jr.. But, she's also shown an interest in family games like Pandemic, Bohnanza, and The Adventurers: The Pyramid of Horus.

E How much interaction with Santa: Some interaction is certainly fun, but if my Santa prefers more or less, that's fine as well.

E What else Santa should know/Preference on receiving: The best part of thrifting is the surprise. The thrill of a new and interesting discovery is what keeps me checking those shelves. (One of my favorite finds was an Astro Shooter tabletop pinball machine--something forgotten from childhood until I saw it sitting on the floor of a local thrift shop.) So, while I'd certainly be interested in receiving anything from my wishlist, I'd also be very interested in receiving anything cool and unexpected. Surprises are more than welcome.

d10-1 Your dream gift game!

I know that this game is unlikely, but it has appeared on the thrift list a few times over the years, so you never know... It's my current grail.

d10-2 What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?

I've been recording my plays for the last year, so you can see what I've been playing.
I play with two groups of people. A weekly meet-up where I play whatever others want to play, and with my wife. Lately, my wife and I have been playing more abstract games.

The games that I'm enjoying and wish I was playing more often:
- Great Western Trail
- Russian Railroad
- Orleans
- Imperial Settlers
- Trajan

I am really not a fan of games with lots of randomness. The less dice the better.

d10-3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:

d10-4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

Not yet, but I hope to soon. My daughter is a year and a half, and we have a second one on the way. I've been collecting kids games for the last two years in anticipation of the day I can play with them. So I'm always looking for good kids games.

d10-5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?

As much interaction as the Santa wants, but I wouldn't mind some interaction. Could be fun!

d10-6 Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

My wishlist is up to date, and has a few titles that could be found in thrift stores.
I use my "Want to Play" for games that I'm interested in, but have to do more research on, or want to play. It might give Santa an idea of the types of games I'm interested in recently.
My "Wants Parts" list is up to date and I'm always happy to get parts to complete games that I have.

Don't stress about it too much Santa. I am not picky. I will be happy with whatever I get.

d10-7Which would you prefer to receive?

I am not picky. Whatever Santa decides.

Yay! It's time for Thrifty Santa again! Very excited for a reason to justify my thrifting obsession hobby for a few months.

1 I think my dream gift would have to be Mystery of the Abbey. I have been hoping to thrift it for a few years, but have not seen it yet. I love the theme and the concepts lead to some pretty fun gameplay. It's been a while since I last played it, but I remember enjoying the balance of simplicity to strategy to fun.

2 What games are you enjoying the most right now?
I think my favorite game right now is Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Every game seems to be so different so far. There is a lot of strategy that goes into it, but even with the perfect strategy if you don't get lucky a few times it might not work out for you.

Another game that has been seeing the table a lot is Scotland Yard. This is likely due to its play-ability with groups of up to 6. I'm not typically a fan of games for 6 people since they usually make the game last so much longer. Scotland Yard is perfect since it has a fairly consistent time commitment and is engaging for 6 people. It's also easy to explain and catch on to while still leaving room for a lot of strategy. I would be interested in getting more strategy/euro games that are good for groups of more than 4, but that don't mean I am going to be playing that game for 2+ hours.

Others I enjoy; 7 Wonders Duel, Splendor, Biblios, Five Tribes

There are not a whole lot of games that I hate. War Games are not my favorite though. Co-operative games used to be a struggle for me, but they have grown on me in the last year or so. Oh! I hate Scattergories! It's my wife's favorite game though. I tend to have a creative mind and sometimes have a hard time thinking "inside the box". This often leads towards my answers getting vetoed! Too much stress for not a whole lot of payoff.

3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:
Abstracts: Haven't played many of these...
Ameritrash: I don't have much experience with these either. I think I would really enjoy some hybrids of these and Euro's
Dexterity: Can be fun to pass the time? Probably not a go to for me.
Eurogames: This is my go to type of game.
Party: I really don't like party games like Cranium. Wits and Wagers changed my perception on the category though. Codenames is another of my favorites now. I recently played Deception: Murder in Hong Kong and loved it! My brother then recommended Mysterium to me and I would love to have either of those games someday.
Strategy: I love strategy games.
Wargames: Don't make it onto the table

4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?
Not a whole lot in this phase of life, but will be changing soon. Still a few years out though.

5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I'm up for anything. It would be fun to have some interaction though.

6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
My wife and some of my close friends say that my thrifting hobby is actually and obsession... ok, maybe I agree with them.
I also love the outdoors/fishing. Fantasy football is another favorite of mine.

I would love to expand my Days of Wonder collection (although no more of the TTR series). I also love games that are not too complex to learn and teach, but still provide a lot of fun and strategy (Splendor). I would love a game with "exploration" theme like Betrayal at house on the hill, but doesn't have the spooky elements to it. Santorini is a game I would love to have someday. If I think of other games I want I will try to add to this in the next month. Feel free to ask me clarifying questions if that would help. Overall, I'm not too picky (at least I think I'm not picky). Just excited to be a part of this this year! Happy Thrifting!!!

What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?

Of all categories of games my two favorite are abstract strategy games and card games and have quite a collection of each. Likewise, I'm a train-game fanatic with 18XX-style games topping the list there. I'm also a fan of war games, but my explorations in that area are quite new and I don't yet have a feel for the intricacies around the ecosystem.

What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:

Ameritrash: Not a fan
Dexterity: Not a fan
Eurogames: Economic euro-games are fun.
Family: I love quirky German card games.
Party: Not a fan
Strategy: Abstract strategy games are the shizz
Wargames: I have a strong desire to dive deeper.

Some thrift store games I am interested in

Sid Sackson's Transformation is a grail game for me, but I've also been dying to find numerous other games from him at my local shops, including: Einstein, Metropolis, Wu Hsing, Tam-Bit, and Tromino Go.

In a similar vein, I love games by Alex Randolph, especially his abstract games like: Code 777, Xe Queo, Claim, Gute Nachbarn, Oh Wah Ree, Foxy, and Counter Point.

Also, Eric Solomon is the man! I've always wanted to thrift his games: Billabong, Black Box, Conspiracy, Innervision, and Interaction.

Other games that I've been on the hunt for for a long time include: 3M Butterbox Games, Situation-4 and Situation-7, Realm, Sly, Haar Hoolim Perception Games, Classic Avalon Hill war games that take days to play, Bid & Bluff, Infinity, nestorgames, and old Looney Labs stuff like Icehouse, Martian Chess boxed set, Black Ice, and old Mad Lab rabbit buttons and special gifts.

Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

Yes, but this wishlist is for me, not them.

How much interaction do you want with Santa?

flexible, what is fun/useful for santa

What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

I love using hand tools on wood to create things, especially game boards and pieces. As a result I've tried numerous times to recreate the works of Reinhold Wittig and Gord with varying levels of success. Completely separate from board gaming entirely is a love of reading and a somewhat morbid love of classic horror films. I was in numerous punk rock bands back in the day.

Aiming high, I know, but I've been trying to trade for this game for months. laugh
10/18 - I'm not even sure if this has ever shown up on a thrift list, but it said dream game, and that's the one I go googly over when I see it.

10/31 - Previous list item/dream game was Scythe. I recently won Scythe in the holy grail (for me) of all G4GG listings. So much fear leading up to that draw, I kid you not, Santa. But, the geek fates were kind, and one of my numbers was rolled.

I've chosen The Red Dragon Inn 2 as my new current "dream game" for you, my thrifty Santa. I'm of the mind that it is quite a bit more likely to show up on thrift lists as well, though I'm not a prior thrift lister, so I could be quite off base.

Games I'm enjoying most right now?
I've been very much enjoying Endangered Orphans of Condyle Cove. Games I'm also enjoying over and over:

--Raxxon
--Most of my 2-player only games (Hera and Zeus, Pecking Order, MTG, Hounded, Triplock)
--Roll Player
--Papa Paolo
--Plague Inc. The Board Game
--Hoplomachus

10/31
--Century Spice Road (omg so fun)
--Helionox: The Last Sunset
--Dark Gothic with Dark Gothic: Colonial Horror

Games I hate?
I don't know that I hate any games, per se, but some I've had less fun than I thought I was going to are:
Alchemists
This looked like so much fun, and I bid pretty hard in an auction for it, but the app overhead proved to be too much for me. I'm not against requiring an app as a general rule. I had soooooo much fun with XCOM The Board Game, so it's not that it has an app, but I didn't like the app itself.

10/31
I love to play games with my kids, I do. What bothers me is that I don't seem to like kid games. Backyard Builders Treehouse was fun the first time. Spooky Castle was novel, but probably a whole lot more fun for them than for me. Even Sorry! is a chore. I've taken to teaching my 8-year old games she might be a bit too young for in the interest of me actually wanting to play. For example, Triplock, the two "smaller flavors" of Valeria (Quests and Villages), Pecking Order, and even Endangered Orphans (I'm cool like that). Some games that are more geared toward gamers her age that I actually do enjoy though are Monster Lab, Buccaneer Bones, and Scuttle!. Sorry, I guess that turned into more of a what I don't like and what I do too.

How much do you like:
Abstracts: - 10/31 from 3 to 4... I realize that to like chess as much as I do, I must rate the whole category of abstracts higher than 3. I'm not implying I'm a chess master either. I like to think I'm okay, but don't we all. No, not a master, but damn do I enjoy chess.

Ameritrash:

Dexterity: - 10/31 from 1 to 3... I've been hearing about some more subtle and adult gamer (as in level of strategy and skill) centered dexterity games, which raises my curiosity enough to put this at middle of the road rather than an off the island 1.

Eurogames:

Family:

Party:

Strategy:

Wargames:

Games with kiddos?
I play games with my 8-year old most out of my 3 children. I also play games with my girlfriend's 8-year old. They like to learn some of the more complicated games with us. We've played Endangered Orphans with them, Coup, House of Borgia, Thief's Market, The Lady and the Tiger, Dead Man's Draw, Control, Hanabi, and others.

Interaction with Santa?
As much or as little as Santa needs/wants.

Other hobbies?

Video gaming. Programming. Community Management.

Prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR
Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.
Usually default to surprises of a previously unknown nature. I've recently discovered how fun trading can be, so there's no fear of getting a "useless" game. Most of the items on my wishlist I do intend to buy... ya know... someday. blushlaugh

My conversations with Santa
Some of you may be wondering why my conversations with Santa are surrounded by tankards of "grown up drink". Well, that's between me and my Santa. laugh

X I don't really have a "dream" game. I'd be happy with anything but, the game listed would be awesome though!

X What games are you enjoying the most right now? Sherlock Holmes Consulting detective. Scythe. Terraforming Mars. Pandemic Iberia. Agents of Smersh. Legendary, the list goes on and on.

X Which games do you hate? The Cave, 4 Gods, etc.. Anything with a terrible rule book just kills it for me. I don't even have the desire to try to learn it. It's funny I saw that because I HATE reading Rule books. I much prefer to learn by videos or being taught. However, when I learn a game on my own, I want a good rule book I can refer back to and not a video.

X What are your most and least favorite styles of game? Co-op are always my favorite! If I lose, everyone loses! Also, I love animal themed games!

How much do you like:
Abstracts: I've never really tried one blush
Ameritrash: Yep!
Dexterity: Dungeon Fighter is my favorite and really the only one I have tried.
Eurogames: Yep!
Family: Sure!
Party: Sure!
Strategy: Yes!
Wargames: No..No..No.. thumbsdown
Anything ANIMAL themed

X Do you play games with children? NO and I will never..shake

X How much interaction do you want with Santa? It does not matter to me!

X What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you? Hm, I co-run a Non-Profit cat rescue! We are on track for 500 adoptions this year alone! We take in many special needs cats who require eye removals or amputations. That is and will forever be my passion. I will be seen in the middle of the ghetto at 2 am trying to catch a cat I was called about. I break into houses to rescue the ones left behind, I will stop at nothing to educate, and rescue cats. 150 calls, texts, messages a day and little to no sleep but, I will gladly do it! Check us out - http://kellerskatsrescue.org/

X Which would you prefer to receive? Surprise me! I'm happy with anything! It's the thought that counts!

This is my very first year doing this! I am so nervous I'm going to fail at pleasing my target! If you have any thoughts, let me know!!

d10-1 Your dream gift game!

Here are several "dream games" that I've seen on the thrift lists:

Agricola
Tikal
Cosmic Encounter
7 Wonders
Caylus Magna Carta

d10-2 What games are you enjoying the most right now?

Dominion: Still going strong with our family. We've enjoyed learning the strategy together, and still have a few cards that we haven't tried yet.

Stone Age: Our newest family favorite. I like the reguar tough choices, the fact that there are multiple viable paths to victory, and rolling dice. The worker placement mechanism works well for our family because it causes player interaction without too much direct confrontation.

Star Realms: It's fast, deep, and has lots of fun special abilities and combos. Between the app and the physical game I've played it around 250 times (many more if you count AI games), and it doesn't feel old yet.

Twilight Struggle: I keep introducing people to this one, and no one has disliked it yet. I love the way you have to play each side differently, the constant stream of tough decisions, and the strong historical theme. Mitigating my opponent's cards is my favorite part of the game.

Nexus Ops: This was a TSS gift that has become a favorite. It has nice bits, fun combat, and a very reasonable play time. I even got one of my little sisters to play it, and she enjoyed it too.

Which games do you hate?

Take it Easy: I know lots of people like this one, but I don't feel like I'm making meaningful decisions when I play. I also feel like instead of playing with my opponents, I'm playing adjacent to them.

Phase Ten: At first, the idea that different people could be pursuing different goals sounded interesting, but it turns out there's not much you can actually do about it. And the "everyone who hasn't laid down has to start over" mechanic is really frustrating.

Bunco: No choices, and it can take a long time. At least it's a potential source for thrifted dice and bells.

But! I have played all of these games with people who really wanted to, and had a good time in spite of the games. A good group is more important than a quality game, and I'm not going to be a jerk about others' tastes. (Though I am working to improve said tastes. ninja)

d10-3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
I enjoy light war games and medium-to-heavy euros. I also get good mileage out of various gateway games. I'm not big on dexterity or "take that" games, but otherwise my tastes are pretty broad.

I'm a sucker for asymmetrical sides and special abilities. I really enjoy working on a team, whether it's in a co-op or a team vs. team game. (And I particularly enjoy setting my teammates up for success.) I enjoy strong themes, especially historical ones, especially if I can learn a bit of interesting history while I'm playing. And I like it a lot when there are multiple viable strategies for players to pursue.

I very much don't like horror themes, or tasteless-on-purpose games like Exploding Kittens or Cards Against Humanity.

How much do you like:
Ameritrash(): I've enjoyed a number of AT games, including Fortress America itself and Nexus Ops. I also just found a copy of TI3 which I'm excited to get to the table... someday. As long as it has good gameplay, I'm interested.
Dexterity(): I have enjoyed a few dexterity games, but the novelty wears off really quickly for me, and I usually find myself wishing I was playing a "real" game.
Eurogames(): I seem to enjoy most every Euro I try, and even the few that I haven't liked were interesting to try. Dominion, San Juan, and Stone Age are the current favorites for us.
Family(): "Family" is an interesting term. Sometimes it refers to lighter games like gateways or solid classics, and those always see some play at my house. Takenoko, Clue, Carcassonne, Scrabble, and Settlers of Catan have all gone over well.
Party(): Party games are as much about the group as about the game, and so while we usually have fun with them, you only need so many. Some of my favorites are Scattergories, Codenames, Pictionary, Say Anything, and Hoopla. A new party game would need to be pretty special to find a permanent place on my shelf.
Strategy(): I enjoy abstracts with unusual gimmicks, tactical play, and good presentation. Through the Desert, Rumis, Twixt, and Hive are good examples.
Wargames(): I mostly play light wargames that border on other categories like Memoir '44, Nexus Ops, or 2 de Mayo. But I can't wait to get Britannia or Washington's War to the table.
Word Games(): We play word games regularly, and our old standbys are Scrabble and Quiddler. We occasionally try another one, but so far nothing has been good enough to earn a permanent place in the rotation. I'm happy to keep looking, though!

d10-4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

Not anymore- as of this year they're all teenagers!

d10-5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?
Let's say 8. I would love to converse at length about games, hobbies, TSS, and related stuff, and I like games and puzzles. The only reason I don't push it up to a 9 is because I have a day job, and I do need to spend some TSS time on my target.

d10-6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

Job: I'm an attorney in a fairly rural county. Most of my work involves things like contracts, real estate, and estate planning. I sometimes tell people I do "all the stuff you haven't seen a TV show about."

Text Adventures: I'm a long-time fan of text adventures (i.e. interactive fiction). When I'm at the thrift store I keep an eye out for old Infocom games and related memorabilia. Maybe someday I'll actually find some.

RPGS: I've played a few RPGs with friends and am eager to try more. It's been more than a year since my first game and I'm still trying to get my bearings, but I have a better picture than I used to. I also keep surprising myself with the number of books I've picked up.

Music: I play banjo and viola (neither very well) and enjoy a variety of music, including classical, Celtic, and film scores and other symphonic music.

Reading: I do a lot of reading on a wide range of topics. Among other things, I've enjoyed books about history, economics, games, mathematics, theology, writing, and cooking. I also read fiction, especially science fiction and mysteries.

Books about Games: I'm particularly interested in books about games. I don't need more generic books on Chess, Poker, Bridge, etc., but anything that's obscure, really old, or about modern games catches my eye.

Cooking: I enjoy cooking, especially for friends. Some of my favorite foods are apples, peanuts, cheese, and onions.

Dice: I have more dice than I will ever need. I do not care. I'm always interested in cool dice.

Chess Variants: I like them, and I don't play them enough. I have a cheap double chess set for playing Bughouse with a the rules to a few favorites tucked in the corner, but someday I need to put together something a bit more robust. I think about creating a more clearly asymmetrical version of "chess with Different Armies" now and then. I'll probably never do it, but it's fun to think about.

Neckties: Given my job, I wear ties regularly. I usually go for very subdued patterns and darker colors, and I have a variety of tie bars, chains, and pins.

Movies: I'm working on collecting DVDs of the Disney canon and a few other things. You might be surprised at some of the things that show up at Goodwill.

Computers: I enjoy programming, although I don't do it much and have never been more than mediocre. I've worked with fairly high-level languages like Python and VB. Given my interest in text adventures, I really need to learn TADS.

Other Information: I modify my TSS wishlist every year, but looking back at the old ones may help you get inside my head. And I try to keep my want in trade list up to date, so that's another good way to get a feel for what catches my eye. My list of owned games and wishlist both need some work, but my goal is to bring them both current over the next month.

d10-7 Which would you prefer to receive: one game high on your wishlist, or several games you don't know, but that look interesting?

I have received and enjoyed both. If I had to pick, I'd lean toward "one game," but it's really close.

d10-8 Final note:

Santa, don't stress out about me. I have broad tastes, enjoy surprises, and don't get upset about a split corner or two. I'm willing to give most games a try, and even if I don't care for one I'll enjoy finding it a good home.

I had a great experience with this last year, and this is definitely one of the highlights of my BGG year.

1. I know this is aiming high, BUT I did see this pop up a couple of times on the Thrifter Weekly list, and it's probably the game that I want the most right now that I can't justify buying for myself.

2. What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate? I enjoy worker placement and deck builder style games. As noted, I really enjoy Voyages of Marco Polo, recently started playing Mystic Vale and liked that. I also enjoy rolling dice. I particularly do not care for bluffing or social deduction games. Just not something that I enjoy.

3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:
Abstracts:
Ameritrash:
Dexterity:
Eurogames:
Family:
Party:
Strategy:
Wargames:

4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages? Yes, my six year old loves playing games. But don't let the number of her age fool you - we play Carcassonne, Takenoko, etc.

5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?
As much as Santa wishes to do. I'm game for lots of communication, but realize that everyone's style is different.

6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you? I enjoy pop culture and sci-fi/comic book/fantasy as themes, which isn't particularly surprising.

Which would you prefer to receive?
Whatever my Santa wanted to do. I'm more in this for the general experience than searching for a particular game. If I wanted that, I'd be doing the main BGG Secret Santa.

Joking Hazard
. . . or look at my wish list which I keep fairly current

What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?
Mostly 2p games in the 2.0 to 2.75 weight range. I like heavier games with 3p+, but that's my reality right now. Like western theme. Like card games and dice. Love games with role selection. Like area control. Worker placement is fine.

As a rule I don't play games with more complicated hand management - games in which there are dozens or more cards that alter the rules of the game (e.g. Terraforming Mars among many others) - as I simply don't have the time to properly learn how to play such games with repeat plays. Not a fan of Feld or the stereotypical too much to do, not enough turns to do it gameplay of Uwe Rosenberg. Don't like nor do I have the time to play games with lots of icons to learn (e.g. Race for the Galaxy).

How much do you like:
Abstracts: Like, but mixed bag. Not a big fan of games like Chess, but like many modern abstracts
Ameritrash: Like, but only on a limited basis. I think theme, but I detest convoluted rules with lots of exceptions. Most Ameritrash games seem to have this. There is at least one Ameritrash game on my wish list.
Dexterity: Like, own several. I think I probably own most of the ones I want, however
Eurogames: Like
Family: Like
Party: Like, but I'm very picky about them
Strategy: Definitely like, but have limited time to play. I'm probably the most picky in this category because what I own or want I have to really like because my time is so limited.
Wargames: No thanks

Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?
Yes. Ages 4, 9 and 12

How much interaction do you want with Santa?
Don't Care

What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
Hobbies and interests at my house: Horses, scootering, yoga, exercise, homesteading activities (raising chickens, growing vegetables, etc.), photography, singing, costumes, acting

Which would you prefer to receive:
Game from wish list. If that's not possible certainly feel free to contact me for more info or ideas. I'm sure there are games I'd like that I don't know about.

What is my dream game?
Any game on my wishlist would be dreamy. I don't really have a "grail" game. I listed this Doctor Who game because I would like to try it, but it is a print-and-play and requires a lot of printing. I don't know if I will ever get around to it. I've nearly killed our printer more than once while printing out games.

(the creator of the Doctor Who game) contacted me and told me he just put out a more printer friendly version of the core book.

What games are you enjoying right now, and what games do you hate?

I am enjoying co-ops and storytelling games the most right now. I had a chance to try Magic Maze recently and loved it. T.I.M.E Stories is still a favorite as well as Hanabi, Pandemic, Legends of Andor, Unlock, and the Exit series. I don't really hate anything, but I tend to shy away from "take that" and "player elimination" games. I am fine with small doses of anything, but those mechanics aren't big hits with my game group. My game group has a lot of artistic people so Charades, and any drawing or acting game is usually a hit. Some of us are still big fans of games like Dominion, Blood Rage, and Eclipse though.

Some games that I have seen thrifted in the past that I would enjoy:
Timeline (any of them)
Smash Up
10 Days in Asia
Forbidden Island (or desert)
IOTA
Cashflow 101
Lost Cities
Machi Koro
Rory's Story Cubes We own a few sets. My wishlist is up-to-date with the ones we don't own.
Magic: The Gathering
Survive: Escape from Atlantis!
Coup
Jungle Speed
Dominion: Cornucopia
Ok, granted these are pretty hard to find for most people, but there may be an outside chance...

What are your most and least favorite styles of game?

Wargames:
Don't let these ratings deter you. I have tried games that I was sure I wouldn't like only to find they were amazing gems that I almost missed out on because of preconceived (and erroneous) notions.

Do you play games with children?
My kids are officially adults, but I play games with them every Tuesday at game night.

How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I would love lots of interaction. I know this is a busy time so less interaction is okay too. As long as I know I'm not forgotten then all is well.

What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
I like to Geocache, play the piano, and hamsters (my family teases me about the hamster thing). My daughter loves piano, anime, and anything Japanese (she is planning on being an English/Japanese translator). My son is studying 3D modeling so he is a true computer geek with an artistic bent.

Santa should know that I don't mind games without boxes or print-and-play games. I also like to play RPG's. We just finished The Rise of Tiamat (DnD 5e), so we are looking for something new to try.
I keep all of my lists up-to-date, and I left a note on my profile page for Santa.

Edit: I keep thinking of things to add after reading other wishlists.
Minis. I would love to get into painting minis. I have no idea how to start such a project. I do have lots of minis, so I guess I have Step One (obtain minis) covered.

Which would you prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR
Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.

Surprise me. That's all I ask. Thanks for being my Santa!

I don't know if I have a dream game at the moment. I am a big fan of Formula D(e) and saw this track for the first time this summer. Instant love. Not always the easiest track to get your hands on though.

2
Games that I have recently enjoyed playing:
I went to WBC over the summer and fell in love with Roll Player. That was an instant buy.
I also found and sneakily enjoyed Terraforming Mars. I have been trying to get my hands on it, but have been unsuccessful so far.
I also really enjoy the crayon rail games. I am not good at them but I enjoy the freedom to build my own routes.
There are only a few games that I would use the word Hate for (looking at you Agricola...).

3
Abstracts:
I am ok with these games. I don't love them because I often struggle with spacial awareness and recognizing visual patterns (SET)

Ameritrash:
I often enjoy an very thematic game. Some of my favorite are Shadows of Brimstone and Eldritch Horror.

Dexterity:
I have not played a lot of these, but I do love some Animal Upon Animal and feel like I have pretty steady hands. Wouldn't mind trying a few more of these.

Eurogames:
When all else fails you can usually trust a Euro. The Castles of Burgundy is one of my favorites.

Family:
So I just did a search for Family games to see what exactly they were. Surprisingly most of the games I own fall in to this category. I guess I really like this style.

Party:
I don't mind them but I often get bored of them quickly and I often do not feel like they fill that gaming itch.

Strategy:

Two of my top five games sit in the category.

Wargames: : (?)
I can't say I have actually played a real war game besides A Few Acres of Snow and I didn't care much for that one. The big ones where you have to move 10,000 little chits look really painful and my attention span is not that long. If there are other war games out there that are good, I would have no problem trying the.
(Related to this, I did play Warhammer and Warmachine for several years and really did enjoy those).

4
At the moment I really don't play any games with children as my kid is only 19 months and his games are how far can I throw this?

5 d10-7
I am really ok with whatever. If the elves want to hang out, awesome! If they have other things to do, that's fine to.

6
During the summers I play Ultimate Frisbee. I don't have much time or energy during the school year. Don't really get to do this much now, but love to paint me some mini's.
I also like collecting dice. You never now what dice will go perfectly with what game. I have a large peanut butter jar full of dice, but its not nearly enough.

Which would you prefer to receive?
I really have to preference either way on this. The first year that I did this, I got this HUGE box. There was one thing in the box that was on my wish list, but several games that I was still super excited to play and own.

d10-1 Your dream gift game!

I will be happy with anything, but StarCraft: The Board Game – Brood War Expansion (in any condition) would be my dream game.

d10-2 What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?
Enjoying
-Sentinels of the Multiverse
-Pitch Car
-Arboretum
-Lanterns: The Harvest Festival
-Grifters

Hate
-Crude themes
-High luck games

d10-3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:
Abstracts: 3/10
Ameritrash: 7/10
Dexterity: 6/10
Eurogames: 9/10
Family: 6/10
Party: 1/10
Strategy: 8/10
Wargames: 5/10
Cooperative: 10/10

d10-4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?
I am trying to introduce my daughter to games (she will be 1yo in November). I got Hungry as a Bear last year in this exchange and we have played with this quite a few times. Right now she pretty much just enjoys playing with the pieces, and pulling her games off the shelf (and my games too...)

d10-5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I had a fairly active Santa last year and it was fun. I don't have strong inclinations either way though.

d10-6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
Right now our lives are pretty busy between work and taking care of our daughter. A lot of my other hobbies have gone on hold for the time being. We are also in a relatively small apartment right now, and either my daughter is getting taller, or my shelves are getting shorter, so my "safe" game space is getting smaller.

1 Your dream gift game! Use this game as the Geeklist entry item.
I do NOT expect to get Tornado Rex, but it is my current grail game. Pretty close is Crash Canyon.

I used to play older licensed games a lot more than I have lately. I still have fun with them now and then, and there are definitely several I'd LOVE to get my hands on (Thundercats, Masters of the Universe Snake Mountain Rescue, the Monster in my Pocket game, The Dark Crystal, The Snorks, any JEM game..)

I will endeavor to update my "want in trade" before names are given out, to better guide my santa. But don't stress too much.

2 What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?

Our all-time household favorites in terms of modern games are Ticket To Ride, Smallworld, Abyss, Santorini, Fish Cook, Star Wars Imperial Assault and the Mage Knight collectible game (always interested in figures for this, although I have every figure three times over for the first line {rebellion}. Later series figures are a win though!). I also don't get as many opportunities to game with others as I'd like so I've become a fan of multiplayer coop games that are feasible as one-player games, so Mice Mystics, Legends of Andor, Flashpoint Fire Rescue, Sentinels of the Multiverse, etc. While games that can do one player are usually a win I am NOT a fan of the Oniverse games or Hostage Negotiator.

My wife is not a huge gamer but she loves mystery themed games and Sherlock Holmes games. Pretty much any mystery game in my collection is there because she picked it out.

Our favorite vintage games around here are Stuff Yer Face, Sweet Valley High, Fireball Island, It From The Pit, Flying Pirates, and Frontier 6.

I dislike games with a billion paper chits, I don't like military themed games, I don't like games with simultaneous hidden programmed actions or movements (like Colt Express, Jamaica, Shazaam!, etc)

3 What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:

Abstracts: I've come to like these a little bit more in the recent months, however abstracts are not my favorite and don't get all that much play here.
Ameritrash: This as a category doesn't mean anything to me, and no two people seem to have the same understanding of what it is. I've seen that geeklist somewhere which tries to explain it, and it didn't help since people are arguing about every single quality pretty much. Do I like games with a strong theme and lots of artistic flourishes? Yes.
Dexterity: I'm really enjoying these a lot lately. Flicking games, stacking games, all fun.
Eurogames: Always welcome.
Family: Family games are fine. I have a lot of them in my collection and as I have a 3 1/2 year old they have started to get more play. We definitely do NOT need games from the Cariboo family as we have or have had them all. My daughter loves Cariboo and the Cariboo Island we got in the exchange last year.
Party: These don't get much play here anymore. I've played enough games with my previously non-gamer friends that now we're all onto heavier stuff. I still have a bunch of our favorites like Cranium, Partini, Fake Artist, etc., but I don't feel like we need any more. I've heard that Codenames and Wits and Wagers are fun though, and wouldn't mind giving them a go, although I doubt one would find Codenames at a thrift store yet.
Strategy: I do like strategy games.
Wargames: I'm not a fan of most war games, and really have zero interest in any based on actual wars. I do play Mageknight and have some interest in getting into Battlelore, if those count. I think I need fantasy elements to make any "war game" appeal to me.

4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. She started with Cariboo and Cariboo island, and likes to play Candyland, Pop Up Pirate, Yummy Yummy Pancake, Pretty Pretty Princess, Memory, Pop the Pig, and many others like that. She loves princesses, Nightmare Before Christmas, Trolls, Cupcakes, and pretty much any game with fun components. I also have a 6 month old daughter who likes to play "trying to sit", and sucking on her own feet.

5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?

I'd like SOME interaction. It doesn't need to be a lot if Santa's not into it as much, but one or two messages to assure me he's still alive would be nice, lol. I've had two pretty active santas in the past and one barely active one.

6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

The last year has been difficult. Since last December I gained a daughter and lost my father and a lung. I have been playing games a lot less this year. Because of this I've been more picky about what I buy and take in. I have also gotten rid of a full half of my game collection as my house, once again, refused to grown another room for the baby no matter how hard I wished it would.

Besides games I collect toys and record albums.

Lastly, I'm always in favor of getting extra pirates and cannons from the "Flying Pirates" game, "Pass the Pigs" pigs, and "Angry Dice" dice. I also sometimes cannibalize games for their dice and pawns if they're particularly neat.

6 . 1 Which would you prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.

For the first time ever I'm going to say one game high on the list, although I'll be happy with whatever Santa is able to provide.

Merry Thriftmas Santa!!

First and foremost, have fun and don't stress out about finding the perfect gift. Please don't let my "owned" games scare you off. I'm easy to please and the best gifts have been the ones I didn't know anything about the game.

My dream gift!
Anything I've seen on the thrift list that I can't find here. I've been on the look-out for the following:

E Belfort (it's a long shot, one can hope)
E Mr. Jack in New York
E Key Largo sorry Santa, I'm receiving this in a trade
E Indigo
E Tsuro of the Seas
E Codenames
E Gold Ahoy!
E Hanabi

E Pretty much anything from my wish/want list.
E Anything you might think I'll enjoy

Games that we are currently enjoying:
I'm a creature of habit, I tend to play the same games, and haven't really played anything new this last year.

E Tumblin-Dice
E Can't Stop
E Carcassonne
E Ticket to Ride: The Card Game
E Gheos (from TSS last year - Thank you!)
E 10 Days in the USA (enjoy all the 10 Days in series)
E Fjords
E King of Tokyo
E Toscana
E Zombie Dice

What games do I hate?
Hate is such a strong word... But since you asked, I do not like war games. Not into LCG, TCG/CCG's like Magic: The Gathering.

What is my favorite style of game?
Not sure if I have a favorite style, if the game is interesting, we will play it. If its easy to learn and plays well for 2-3 people will probably be the best. We like card games, tile placement, dice (love dice), game play less than 90 minutes. I'm finding myself playing more 2 player games since my son is away at college.

What is my least favorite style of game?
That would have to be war games. Not into LCG, TCG/CCG's like Magic: The Gathering.

Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?
Welllllll, he says he's not a kid, but I don't believe him. My son is now 20 and away at college.

How much interaction do you want with Santa?
Bring it on Thrifty Santa, I've been waiting for you.
The interaction is the best part. I want to at least know you're alive and not injured.

What other hobbies/interests do you have?
Is there anything else Santa should know about you?

My #1 hobby would be Genealogy. I love researching my family history and exploring cemeteries. Other interest would be camping, traveling, RVing, canoeing, kayaking, anything of that nature...

Which would you prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.

Anything you want to send is fine... Any game on my wishlist or anything you might think I'll enjoy and haven't tried.

Other items interested in are:
E Any parts to complete my incomplete games.
E A nice wood planchette for my Ouija boards to put on display.
E Dice (did I mentioned I have an addiction) (see below)
E Buried Blueprints Puzzles from the Past (looking for - Tower of Babel; The Civil War at Sea)

Note to Thrifty Santa:
Don't stress too much, I'm not that hard to please. All of the above are just suggestions. I've enjoyed all my gifts in years past, and I will enjoy all gifts in the future. I enjoy Thriftmas, the process, helping others, the interaction, reading what others receive, it's the best exchange on BGG.

You can always help me reach my goal of filling this:
What can I say, I have a addiction, who doesn't...

*** And as fair warning, I do wait until Christmas to open my gifts. If I didn't, there really wouldn't be anything under the tree. ***

Merry Thriftmas Everyone

Dear Santa,

I'm starting from scratch this year. For the last several years, I've copied and pasted my letter to you and made changes as appropriate. But not this year.

This year, I'm keeping it simple. I LOVE this exchange. I've considered being a "gifter only" but I really do have as much fun receiving as I do giving -- and my past Santas have given me some really great gifts. (Thank you, again, all!)

If you can find me one of the gamettes I don't own, that would be spectacular! (I'll double-check and let you know for certain which I already have as a reply to this item.) If you can't, then I am easy -- my second biggest wish is for interaction with you during the season. If you're good at that, let's have some fun! If you're not, that's OK -- just, please, talk to me -- I enjoy the back and forth of talking to my Santas. If you will, it's kind of a game in itself.

The biggest thing to know, especially if you're disheartened by the size of my collection (I'd be concerned if I got me as a target...), is that I'll like anything that you legitimately try to match to my likes.

So here's some random things about me.

I'm married and my wife humors me by playing games (but she's not really a fan of zombies).

Neither of us like pure abstracts much, but clothe them in some story-line and we're much more interested (think Patchwork).

I own two dogs: a Welsh Terrier and a Wire Fox Terrier.

I used to read a LOT, but these days I get my reading fix through audio books on the way to/from work.

The coolest non-gamer gift I received from the exchange was salt rising bread -- the "active ingredient" of which is a horrible bacteria that's a cousin to botulism, gangrene, tetanus, and food poisoning. (I've received a BUNCH of great gamer gifts!)

I travel for work and train law enforcement. My wife and I joke that we've been booked into jails across the country (as part of my training routine).

I like milk chocolate WAY more than dark chocolate, but don't really like hot chocolate all that much.

And I think that's good for now. Should you want other detail, please let me know. I'd be happy to track down links to previous wishlists should you desire. Or answer questions. Or whatever, really. Just let me know.

Mostly, I just want to say thank you.

Jeff

d10-1 Dream gift game

Most of my top wishlist games are newer or Japanese games. Here are some other ideas:

• Ticket to Ride variants/expansions (I only have the original it would be fun to try more, including PnP fan expansions)
• Other Days of Wonder games I don't have.
Paperback
• Games with nice components from Blue Orange or HABA; Games from these companies are much better than Ravensburger, IMO
Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures starter set/basic pieces
Loopin Louie
Doodle Quest - these are at Ollies
Sushi Panic! I just saw this on the thrift list.
Focus
Minecraft Card Game - The kids are currently in to Minecraft...this might be fun to try.
• Expansions for D-Day Dice
• Timeline variants - We have two of these and my wife really likes them
• Travel version of games - Waterproof Spot It, Travel Quirkle, that type of thing.

I also would appreciate the parts to finish some of my previously thrifted games, especially The Magnificent Race or cool bits to pimp out my existing games.

I have an almost complete VS Spider-Man vs Doc Ock starter set that I thrifted a while ago. I am just missing one MSM-027 Alley-Oop! card. Would love to complete that so we can give it a try.

I also need a board for Risk Plant v Zombies. I thrifted a copy of this over a year ago and it ended up having everything except the board. Not a big deal because my son likes the minis, but it might be nice to try the actual game sometime.

d10-2 Games that you are currently enjoying

Forbidden Island - Played this with my son for the first time last night. We also played Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters at Gen Con. He really enjoyed both. So I am certainly going to be looking for more co-ops to play with him.
Deep Sea Adventure - Quick to set up and play with some light strategy
Castle Panic - Fun solo or with a group
Friday - Fun solo game
Ticket to Ride – This is a great game with strategy that I can break out with my family/friends
Lords of Waterdeep – I love the openness of the worker placement mechanic
Splendor - Quick to pick up and learn with some basic strategy
Camel Up - Very fun game with some strategy
Innovation and Red7 - both fun card games
D-Day Dice - I got this from Thrifty Santa last year and I really like it.

I tend to measure games these days by their inclusion of solitaire rules to give them a better chance of getting off the shelf.

d10-3 How much do you like: Ameritrash, Eurogames, Family, Party, War, or Strategy games?

I personally like Eurogames the most.
I have played Twilight Struggle, but I don't typically play games that take that long. Under an hour is more typical.
I haven’t played any war games. Unless you count Memoir '44 or D-Day Dice. (both of which I liked) If I did, I would prefer it be a battle/war of interest like something from the Revolutionary War or War of 1812 (US)...even better if it could be played solo.

I am pretty open to new experiences.

I also seem to like games which have some aspect of push your luck. I like games with dice rolling.

I do not like Cards Against Humanity or other "games" with similar NSFW "themes".

d10-4 Do you play games with children? If so, what ages?

I play with my son who is 7. He likes to play King of Tokyo, Rhino Hero, Spot It, and Pokemon Yahtzee Jr. He is also really interested in the Pokémon TCG and recently has been buying more cards. He likes the cards more than the game and doesn't care too much about value. He just likes cool cards.

I also have a daughter who is 12, but it is harder to get her to play a game. She has been playing Rubik's Race with her friend. She is into Steven Universe.

d10-5 How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I don't need to be contacted everyday, but I would like to know Santa is real. So somewhere in the middle.

d10-6 What other hobbies/interests do you have? Anything else to help Santa find the right gift for you.

Outside of board games I like LEGO and Japanese language and culture (I do know how to play Go).
I know it is unlikely, but there are so many interesting Japanese games out there, any of those would be really cool to get.

I am pretty open to new, fun gaming experiences...I have marked quite a few games in the db that I want to play. Overall, if it is something fun and interesting I will enjoy it and give it a go.

d10-7 Which would you prefer to receive? One game high on your wishlist OR Several games you don't know, but that look interesting

Of course, a game or bits high on my wishlist would be great, but I will be happy to try something that I don't know. The fact that there are surprises under the tree is one of the best parts of this exchange for me.

d10-1
My most wanted is - Wasabi! My 2nd most wanted is Ave Caesar - looks fun and would be great pimped out.
Haunted Mansion Game, Tsuro,Memoir '44 - any expansions I don't have as well. Even if incomplete. Heroscape Master Set: Battle for the Underdark - any terrain would be great, specifically from this set. Ticket to Ride: Märklin & Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries,Memoir '44: Air Pack would love this, I have some replacement planes if that is all that is missing. I can also make most of the tokens, it's really just the cards I need. Can't Stop received this previously and it was stolen at a gaming get together we had at our house. Tron: Assault on MCP Game or Las Vegas would be great. Really, anything on my want in trade list is something I've seen thrifted that I want or would at least like to try. I love Christmas, especially the giving.

d10-2What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?
We played Mansions of Madness recently, it was fun. Star Wars: Imperial Assault is always ready to go. Eldritch Horror another good one.
Not really into the gateway games - Takenoko fell seriously flat for us. Nice game but more for beginners. We like some Euro's, the heavier ones like Caylus, Vinhos just didn't do it for us, felt more like doing homework in school shake

d10-3What are your most and least favorite styles of game?
How much do you like:
Dice games: Love & big dice collector
Deckbuilders: Yes! We do own quite a bit
Ameritrash: Love this the most!
Dexterity: Some go over well, some not so much.
Eurogames: I'm not huge into heavy Euros, mid to light is usually my speed. I've ranked and rated my favorites so that should give you an idea.
Family: Depends on what it is, if you think it is up my alley, send it over!
Party: These get played during family events and holidays, easier to learn the better. Cards Against Humanity is a hit with my family.
Strategy:
Wargames: We love card driven war games, Hannibal, Memoir '44, Commands and Colors.
Themes we like more than others: Zombies, Western, Sci-Fi, Casino/Gambling, Dungeon hacks, Cars, Food.

d10-4Do you play games with children? If so, what ages? Nope.

d10-5How much interaction do you want with Santa?
I can take some taunting but just knowing that Santa is there would be nice.

d10-6What other hobbies/interests do you have? Is there anything else Santa should know about you?
I paint minis for all of our games. We have 4 cats and 1 dog. I'm a huge video gamer, Fallout series, Fable series and Zelda are my favorites. I look for old games, SNES, Genesis, N64, Nintendo 8 bit, PS1, PS2, Xbox. (Can provide a list of what I am looking for if you'd like). Disney - I am a huge, HUGE fan of all things Disney. I collect Jim Shore Disney figurines and have found some at thrifts. I love older park memorabilia - ash trays, park maps (posters), attraction posters. Any old Disney books, Tiki room stuff, especially old mugs, glasses or related Tiki items would be amazing. I love coffee, (think Agent Cooper's love of coffee), Twin Peaks, Fallout, Ford Mustangs, etc. You can look at my microbadges and get a feel for what I'm into.

d10-7Which would you prefer to receive?
One game high on your wishlist OR Several games you don't know, but that look interesting.
I've been part of this wonderful group for awhile. I don't want my Santa to stress, I know I have a lot of games. This is supposed to be fun so let's not worry. I'll get things I am happy with I am sure. If you think I'll like it I will give it a shot! If it is my #1 want, I'm happy with just that, otherwise, send me what you think I would like.

Parts I am looking for:
Strength, craft, life cones from Talisman 3e or 4e by FFG
Coins from Dread Pirate
Scrabble tiles _ burgundy and beige. I prefer beige tiles
Jenga sets, specifically colored blocks - any for dice towers or dice trays.

Santa - my games marked 'Want In Trade' are for Thrifty Santa. My wishlist games will be for the main BGG exchange.

Dearest Santa

Okay, here is my first step. My top choice— which it really isn’t— I would be happy with any number of options...Forbidden Island, Pandemic, Iberia...and they all seem to have different versions...expansions...etc.
Just look at my wish list...it actually is growing faster than my waistline, in large part to all your editorial remarks.

Can’t sleep so trying to figure out how to do all this. Old dog that isn’t computer savvy.

Now the next step is subscribe, I think... In my world that meant money and I always stayed away from that button...now it means to follow ... and it is free! This old dog slowly is learning this website. Thanks to all for being patient with me.

Your kindnesses enforce the reason for the season. Let the giving begin.

(Second entry) okay now number 2: What games are you enjoying the most right now? Which games do you hate?

Splendor definitely ranks number one.

Ticket to Ride number two.

Can’t Stop has seen some play.

Blokus and Sharp Shooters are also regulars.

Quarto is also a favorite.

I don’t hate ... dislike would be the word I would use ... and I haven’t encountered a game that I dislike. I feel that way about chocolate too. So many games, so many chocolates, life is good.

FYI - a year ago I had never heard of the games I listed. It is a result of this guild that I have begun gaming. I came to BGG for info on games I wanted to thrift and re-sell now that I took early retirement, and now I am hooked. I wish one of you wise gamers would buy the house next to ours that is up for sale and befriend me, game with my husband and me, and assist directing me to games we should try. That’s quite a request for Santa!

I am overwhelmed at the volume of games to pick from at this point. I really enjoy two-person games to play with my husband or adult nephew I connect with weekly. We also often find our group is five and get frustrated that Splendor won’t accommodate that size group. I am open to suggestions Santa sends my way. Length of time to play is also a factor - 60-90 minutes is about our limit.

(Third entry)
Types of games: I am not confident I understand the different categories, but here goes: abstracts three stars
Ameritrust ???
Dexterity one star
Eurogames four stars
Family Four stars
Party Three stars
Strategy Three stars
War games no stars - love and peace please

One of you wiser than me could look at my lengthy wish list and know better than I how to fill out those categories.

To answer the next question, do I game with children - yes. I am a grandma to four, one of who is now six. The others are too young. So now my thrifting seems to be one game to sell for income, one game for the grandkids, and one game for adult playing. Life is all about choices and I would rather play games than eat......extravagantly.

As far as Santa interaction, I am new to all this - guide me. I am a frequent visitor here.

As far as hobbies and interests: I enjoy growing my faith, gardening, reading, hiking, travel, organic and vegetarian fare, volunteering (Literacy Council and homeless outreach) and most of all doing things with family.

And finally, I am humbled to be secret Santa-ed (new word!), and have someone care enough to investigate a gift for me. I care not how that gift is put together. I am easily pleased and honored to be a part of this group.

I believe I answered all the questions.

One question - when do we find out who we are to gift?

Hello prospective Santa. I wasn't sure what to list as my dream gift. I tried to pick something I see somewhat frequently on the thrift list. I will state right up front if you go to my want in trade list that has a plethora of games I am interested in. My wishlist as well has games I would be happy to have.

Shadows of Brimstone the City of Ancients. I don't know how I missed this game but I really enjoy rampaging around in the game.

Techno Bowl - I have played this several times and enjoyed each game.

Warmachine - My brother in laws have been available for this lately and we have been getting some good games in.

Star Wars Destiny - My best friend and I have been playing this every week.

Mansions of Madness - Still playing this game when possible.

Monza - My children and I enjoy playing this together

My favorite style of game is probably Ameritrash and least favorite is probably abstracts. I enjoy everything. It is difficult to get Wargames to the table because I only have one associate who plays them.

I play games with my son (4) and daughter (5) they both love games.

I have had Santas at both ends of the interaction spectrum and am fine with whatever works for Santa.

I collect LEGO and also do quite a bit of disc golf. I enjoy Yoga and Power lifting. I am looking to get into woodworking but it is an expensive hobby.

If I had to pick a preference it would be one game higher on the wishlist.
