I was running fashionably late. This was already on the table. A train game with stock... yay. At least it was better than most and didn't overstay its welcome, but I doubt I'll ever request it.

Brian went with the strategy of controlling what stock paid taxes and which didn't. Unfortunately for me, my best stock, a yellow at 8, didn't pay and didn't count. I think blue also didn't pay. I didn't have any blue, but I think that knocked out Corinna and maybe someone else. Somewhat a shame since blue made it to the center +5 space first.

First time play for Carl. Brian claimed he needed a refresher (I have my doubts, he played too well). They got thrown into the deep in with an expansion map (the one with forts, which I never played on before), salt expansion, and forum expansion.

Corinna started with a bold play of buying 2 cards as her first move. Everyone else started with a more standard city building approach. Brian really focused on moving next to forts for free goods. I tried to get all the tool cities since I had an early tool Minerva card.

I'm surprised I won. I always feel like I wait too long to buy cards. I also didn't really specialize in anything. I think I ended with 4 pts per (non-brick) city, 4 pts per province, 4 pts per good type, 4 or 6 pts per soldier/ship, and 3 pts per tool city. I think I had 8 non-brick cities (3 brick cities), 8-9 provinces, all 5 goods, 3 dudes, and 4 tool cities.

I may have made a mistake on my next to last turn and then got super lucky for my last turn. I produced in a region to give me the goods needed to build 2 cities. That was my plan, but I failed to notice I had already played my architect card. Oops. This move also gave Brian the stuff he needed to buy the last 2 cards ending the game with the +7 bonus pts. I got lucky when Corinna played an architect card on her turn that I could diplomat. I thought I could build 2 cities, but I didn't quite have the money or movement points. The city I did build was a tool city in a new province so it was worth 10-11 points for me. Corinna said something like her architect got her 6-7 pts so not doing that would have let Brian beat both of us.

This game didn't get played.

While Concordia was going on, Cameron and his friend Phil (new to group) played some 2 player games. None of them got recorded though.

Corinna is working on a card game. Apparently she started working on it several years ago and recently brought it back out. Hopefully our feedback was good and makes things better.

Carl Lose

My blanket veto for 6 player games might make an exception for this one. Good call Carl.

Mini-review: Each player has a spaceship and are collecting resources so they can escape a doomed planet about to be bombarded with meteorites. However, no single player can collect everything they need and must work with one other player. Some players, "for purely scientific reasons", you'd rather die first than help so you have to cooperate with a different player.

That last bit creates a weird dynamic. At the start, everyone is just trying to collect stuff and not get attacked or exploded by meteorites. Towards the end, there was a lot more wheeling and dealing of "you and me, we're only missing these 2 things. I'm going after this, just so you know."

It seemed like Phil and Cameron were working together from the start. I tried to partner with Corinna about half way through. We took a long shot chance at winning, but everything would have had to work out just perfectly and it didn't. The following turn, I was in a weird position where I could partner with Corinna or Carl. Either one of them needed to get a tool(?) which I was already full up on and couldn't get more. I just needed a food to join Carl and nothing to join Corinna. So I grabbed a food. Cameron managed to block both of them from the tool space. I managed to talk Carl into a backup plan involving lots of scrap, trading scrap, and getting the needed resource then noticed the trading phase takes place after the "leave the planet" phase. Phil and Cameron didn't need to do any trading so they beat us by a round.

I'm not sure if I had any marks on red or yellow. I mostly focused on blue and had a handful of green. I think Phil was doing to opposite focusing on green. When I rolled a 2 as the community number, I closed out blue, he closed out green, game over. I believe Dave took an early -5. Might have worked in a longer game, but this was quite qwixx. (wakka wakka wakka!)
