THE VOTE IS OVER! Here are the final results (screenshot from my iPad at precisely noon today):

From gallery of The Reeve

Greetings, all! As mentioned in this post from back in September, Kayenta Games will be providing corrected player aids to owners of Obsession along with two promotional cards developed by the BGG community as a fun apology for a mistake.

From gallery of The Reeve

The past few months have seen a ton of development and playtesting, and now it is time to present some card modifications (based upon feedback) and prepare for a final vote.

The list below this post features the cards that have made the cut, some with changes as noted. Three cards did not make the cut:

Alan Beckett, Esq: Neat idea, but not a pleasant card to have in hand and too 'take that' for most people.
From gallery of The Reeve

Sir Wallace Carter, Bt: Tough call here, but this 'houseguest' idea is too much of a jolt to the gameplay with the creation of a guest tableau. Honestly, this is a precursor to an expansion creatively sniffed out by Dick Butler. Sir Wallace will return!
From gallery of The Reeve

James Strallen, Esq: Another thematic idea that got the cold shoulder during testing. Also, a very new and somewhat complicated mechanism is introduced allowing players an action on another player's turn.
From gallery of The Reeve

EDIT: The remaining 15 cards are presented for your final thoughts with a vote planned for tomorrow! I don't see any way to do a poll in a GeekList, so I will post it on the Obsession page and link here. CORRECTION, thanks Garry Rice for adding a poll!

Thomas Fuller: No special rules needed. Functions like an American Heiress.

Presented without change.

Idea: New money, common background, abrasive personality. Loaded with money/opportunities generating significant wealth, but he still gets insulted with a footman for personal service.

Glencora and Plantagenet Palliser: Counts as two Prestige guests for end game scoring. Tile Flip Favour: The player may flip to the backside (with the rose) any tile not yet played; no favour(s) are received for flipping this tile.

Change: The Max prestige rating makes the card almost unplayable, except for the National Holiday. Changed to 6 prestige rating.

Credit: Laura Turtledove

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: Famous Trollope characters become part of the game. The gentleman is the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the lady is form the renowned and wealthy M'Cluskie family.

Richard Clarkson: When invited to an activity, the doctor refreshes a guest (a guest from the discard pile is placed into the player’s active hand).

Change: The servant refresh makes no sense. You cannot access this favour until favours are enjoyed, which is at the end of the activity. How is a player supposed to get the refreshed servant to the current activity? I know we proposed a favour at the beginning, but I believe that will cause confusion.

Credit: Luiz Mendes

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: The doctor refreshes a guest (move a guest from the discard pile to the active hand; the guest cannot be used that turn).

Mary Crowley: Lady Mary attracts eligible gentlemen. When played to an activity, an additional gentleman can be added to the activity above and beyond the guest count on the tile. The gentleman must meet all the requirements of the activity (service, prestige rating). Not permitted in Suites tiles.

Presented without change.

Credit: Luiz Mendes

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: Like Lady Mary in Downton Abbey, this guest is a magnet for eligible gentlemen of appropriate prestige rating (as compared to the family's reputation). When played to an activity, an additional gentleman can be added to the activity above and beyond the guest count on the tile.

Isobel Hawthorne: Lady Isobel is an activist seeking an end to the secondary status of the domestic class. Any casual guest attending an activity with Lady Isobel do not require service.

Change: The photo was universally disliked, so trying this one.

Credit: Luiz Mendes (with another hat tip to Neil C)

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: Patterned after Downton Abbey’s Lady Isobel, this guest is an activist to end the secondary status of the domestic class. Her strong presence at an activity will see any casual guests attending not make use of personal domestic staff. The elite (prestige guests) however are unpersuaded by Lady Isobel's advocacy.

Alastair Leese: When this guest is in the player’s gentry deck (active hand or discard pile), the player cannot dismiss guests with negative reputation. Sir Alastair can be dismissed himself, which would then allow other unsavory guests to be dismissed.

Presented without change.

Credit: Michael Kavanagh

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: A mysterious world traveler, fabulously wealthy and connected in international markets, who seems to have a preference for questionable company. When this guest is the gentry deck (active hand or discard pile), a player cannot dismiss guests with negative reputation.

Margaret Fairchild: The aunt of Charles and Elisabeth Fairchild. Standard favours.

Changes: Max prestige rating made her unplayable; reduced to 6. She was overpowered and displaced the attention due Charles and Elizabeth; reduced end game VP to 5 and her monetary favour to £500.

Thomas Allen Hurt: This socially awkward guest confers a reputation penalty when invited to activity for the 1st time. As friends get to know him, he becomes known as a man of honor, conferring a VP card in future visits. Players with this guest should place the Hurt card face up beneath their player board when first acquired and invite him to the first activity as needed. When passing and reclaiming the discard pile, the player should announce to all that the Hurt card has been played, take the card into her active deck, and declare that all future visits will generate the VP card favour.

Presented without change. He almost didn't make the cut because of the need for a tracking mechnism. I guess he could be placed beneath the player board when acquired and taken into hand after one discard and pass.

Credit: Bradley Smith II

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: Clumsy, slightly embarrassing guest confers a reputation penalty, but as friends get to know him, he becomes beloved, a man of exquisite honor and integrity.

Sara Bonetta: A West African Egbado princess who became a goddaughter to Queen Victoria. Prestige guests cannot attend an activity where she is present.

Presented without change.

Credit: Neil C

From gallery of The Reeve

Idea: Historical figure. A West African Egbado princess of the Yoruba people who was orphaned in intertribal warfare, sold into slavery and, in a remarkable twist of events, was liberated from enslavement and became a goddaughter to Queen Victoria. She brings reputation but cannot attend activities with prestige guests (because of prejudice). Grants excellent end game VP.

Jane Booth: Low theatre actress who damages the family’s reputation, but draws a crowd of casual guests, none of whom need service (because they are starstruck and distracted). When invited to an activity, the player may add up to three additional casual guests to the activity; the additional guests do not require service. Not permitted in Suites tile.

Presented in its original form (3 casual guest fans)

Charles Fitzwilliam: A snobbish guest who is contemptuous of everyone of low standing and poor connections. When the card is put into hand, two casual guests (in the active hand of discard pile) leave in a huff (they cannot be disreputable casual guests). If two qualifying casual guests are not available, Mr. Darcy joins the family’s circle of friends in the discard pile.

Idea: The clergy were an integral part of Victorian life. Our reverend is unlike Mr. Collins, he is eloquent and uplifting. Of course, a small living is necessary for the Reverend, but he refreshes the family every Sunday.
