Sublist (or sub-sublist) of the "Timeline of War" MEGA-LIST

Click here to return to parent geeklist

Geeklist of "1000-1499" games in chronological order.

Date(s): 1000-1499

Sublists of this list should be named "ToW: {date info} {sublist info} {more sublist info}" and should be publicly editable. The creator of any sublist will take responsibility to periodically review it for additions and re-order to keep things properly chronological and, when necessary, substitute lists for individual games.

This geeklist is a mere skeleton of what it can become with YOUR HELP. Please click on the link above to see what ToW is all about. And if you want to look at a much more fleshed-out "tree" of geeklists look at the ones I put together for 1914-1918 since that is a period I know a little about. (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/25945 )

PLEASE add games or new ToW geeklists to this list!
This is a community effort.

I know, 500 years is a pretty big byte. I know the Crusades will be heavily represented here and if it turns out that the list gets too large it should be relatively easy for it to "calve" to separate ones for each century. That depends on your efforts to enlarge it!

Battle Name: Stamford Bridge
Battle Date(s): Sept. 25, 1066 (2 weeks before Hastings !)

Wikipedia says: "The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire in England on September 25, 1066, shortly after an invading Norwegian army under King Harald defeated the army of the northern earls Edwin of Mercia and Morcar of Northumbria at the Battle of Fulford two miles south of York. After a lengthy forced march up to Stamford Bridge that took place in just four days, King Harold Godwinson of England caught Harald's force by surprise, which meant that the soldiers were unarmoured. After a stubborn battle, the majority of the Norwegians were killed along with Harald"

This one is a miniatures-based game from, appropriately enough, a Russian company. They apparently offer a hex-based version as well.

From the publisher's website (http://web.mac.com/bergbrog/Site/More_BSO_Games.html): At Nicopolis, the Christians, led by a strong contingent of French and Burgundian men-at-arms, got together with Hungarians, Wallachians and Transylvanians, all under King Sigismund, to stop the Ottomans from spreading north from Contanstinople, and to push them back into Asia.

Tactical wargame - probably with wooden blocks - depicting polish battles with Teutonic Order in XIV-XV century.

List of battles:
*1331 - Battle of Płowce, first general battle Polans vs. Teutonic Order,
*1410 - Battle of Grunwald a.k.a. Tannenberg, one of the biggest battles of middle ages,
*1410 - Battle of Koronowo, introductory scenario,
*1454 - Battle of Chojnice a.k.a. Konitz, where Polish knights met proffesional German mercenaries,
*1462 - Battle of Świecino, last battle of Thirteen Years' War.

1066: This STRATEGY AND TACTICS magazine game set presents the three main battles of the campaign — Fulford (20 September), Stamford Bridge (25 September), and Hastings (14 October) — using Decision Games's Battles of the Medieval World system. This was the first game in what would turn out to be a rash of tactical warfare titles on these historical events.
