Swords and Chit Impressions & Reviews
A place to catalog all of the posts made over at Swords and Chit. There are a few post types that get made, and I will be sure to be clear as each gets added in! All links go to my Wordpress blog, as I can actually track traffic over there, but you can find the same exact posts on my BGG Blog. You can also find me on Twitter at @SwordsandchitRecommend
ABOUT SWORDS AND CHIT:
My name is David and my goal is to primarily dive into Wargames in the Medieval, Ancient, or Renaissance period of history along with excursions into Fantasy and Science Fiction Wargaming (although not exclusively, as my friend has games outside of these areas that he wants to play, too). I’ve fallen deep into the rabbit hole, have a regular wargaming opponent who is just as excited about the venture, and it frees me up to just play the games I want to play when I get to game with my wife (although I will slowly attempt to convert her…#rootisthegatewaydrug). I can count on two hands the number of Wargames I played prior to this year, and so I am still diving into uncharted territory and experiencing many of the popular and established games for the first time.
Also, I am aware that some of these games covered, like Battle Line: Medieval (coming soon!), are more Wargame-adjacent than an actual Wargame. I believe they still bring value with coverage, and they are great stepping stones for those looking to take their first steps toward Wargames.
Insights & Impressions - Posts made after the first play (or two, depending on the game) where I talk about things I learned as a player and/or experiences from the game.
Review - Posts made after multiple plays of a game where I go in-depth about the game from a critical standpoint. Number of plays varies by game, but is always more than 1-2 plays. A longer game experience might need fewer plays to get a handle on the game, whereas shorter games might need a lot of plays. Sweet spot in my mind is usually the 4-6 range for plays, and most will call into that spectrum at the time of review.
Publisher Spotlight - I comb through the catalog of games from a publisher and talk about the ones of interest, based primarily on time period.
