I had a guide, a Bedouin man, who called me 'Abu el Banat'. And whenever we'd meet another Bedouin, he'd introduce me as Abu el Banat. And the Bedouin would laugh and laugh and offer me a pint of beer. (cont below)

And I'd go to pay them for the beer and they wouldn't let me. "Abu el Banat" means "Father of daughters." They thought the beer was the least they could do.

I wasn't sure at first if I was going to share this with the BGG Community. I knew that all of the guys and ladies from The Monkey Room Gang aka Jim's Convention Gaming Family knew that Jim had been sick since late August. I always knew Jim was very caring and had friends here. I think the turning point was when a buddy of mine here in Town said "Hey I just about Jim" or when one of the Admins here was shocked and saddened at hearing the news. Jim was more than just ours aka the Monkey Room. Jim had reached and touched a lot of you via BGG. Whether it was working and attending Gen Con for years, Origins, The Gathering of Friends, or the at the Cabin each May in Oklahoma.

So it saddens me to tell you that last Thursday November 12, 2020 that Jim died after a short illness. He was only 53 yeas young.

Jimbo was the most giving and caring guy that I, or those who loved him, have ever know. He would literally give you the collectible promo shirt off his back. I am sure there are more than a few of you out there who have been surprised by a package showing up at your door that you did not order. You opened it up and found Jim had sent you something that you might have mentioned in passing as wanted. That was him to his care. He care about everyone that he tried to make ever a stranger he just met happy.

I'm devastated by his loss and future absence in my life but as one of his best friends said, "Be happy that we had him for the time that we did"

The World was a much better place by his presence and worse off for his absence.(I know it's rather cliché but when it applies to Jim it's the truth)

In closing I want to share something that Jim shared with us over a decade ago

"Have fun. Every moment you have is a choice. Be sure to choose well. You can choose to be miserable, or you can choose not to. Suffering is optional."

In 2020 wiser words have not been said.

Hail and Farewell buddy.

If I did this right I have allowed others to post to this geeklist. If you knew Jim please feel free to ad. And away we go!

While most of the World thought Jim was a huge Stars Fan, ya he dressed like a Jedi a lot, Trek was his true love. It's a little known fact but Jim was featured on the cover of a ST Novel.

Jim LOVED this time of year, he went above and beyond when it came to the BGG Secret Santa contest. You were expecting a box with a $40 game in it and a semi would show up at your door with extra goodies. That was Jim. Giving brought him joy and happiness.

Jim was maybe the kindest guy I ever met. Soft spoken and giving. I only ever saw him or talked to him in person at GenCon. He tracked me down there, one Sunday morning, I have no idea how. Found me at a ticketed event that I hadn't told him I would be attending.

He knew I'd wanted Romance of the Nine Empires, and I'd been disappointed I hadn't picked it up at the AEG event on Friday night. So he just brought me a copy, Sunday morning, like it was nothing, and he just happened to be there with it in his bag.

All he ever wanted to do, as far as I could tell, was be with his friends, enjoy their company, and treat them well. A fine, fine, righteous spirit, and we are poorer for having lost him.

A great guy, indeed. In the early days of the Heroscape fan forums, Jim visited the bay area and was looking for California 'Scapers. I reached out to him and invited him for a few games. It was me and my late gaming buddy, Scott (known as Guerillantor on the forums) who gamed with him in my garage. Jim brought his custom Heroscape dice and I built a map and named it after him. I'll add pictures once I find them. Thank you, Hahn for letting us know. Jim will be missed.

EDIT:
Jim visited in 2006. Here are some of the pics including the map, Castle Mij and Jim's custom HS and The Nightmare Before Christmas dice made by Scaper Josh n Pappa.

In the following years, Jim sent me some Heroscape stuff, called a couple of times, and we traded items to bling our our copies of the dungeon-crawl flicking game, Catacombs.

Jim was the man. I've been part of his online family that would have put me in a lot of the places he was, but due to real world things, I never got to meet the man in person. I'm still the recipient of his generosity. A few of that online family will understand the significance of this entry. Suffice to say that even though I might sell most, or all of my Heroscape collection, this one thing will never leave.

It’s this one for me. I had mentioned in passing at some forum that we both used that I missed out on battleball. The first time I stayed in the Gen Con monkey room, as everyones unpacking, he just walks up and hands me a sealed copy of battleball. I never talked to him about it. I barely remember mentioning it in the forums. I was stunned. I couldn’t believe that he saw it or that he followed through to acquire a copy and give it to me. Typical Jim, he was of course expecting nothing in return and refused any compensation. He was just an all-around great guy and I’m gonna to miss him dearly
