Oasis of Fun 2008 Math Trade
- Joe Huber(huber)
This math trade is for those attending the Oasis of Fun in 2008. Only those who will be in attendance should participate. Anyone who ends up not attending will be responsible for _all_ shipping charges (i.e., both directions).Recommend
If you have no idea what a Math Trade is: In a nutshell, it's a way to trade a whole lot of games amongst a whole lot of people without requiring that they trade directly with each other. A computer algorithm ensures fairness and removes risk: you're only going to get what you say you want.
Please do not delete any items from the geeklist!
If you no longer wish to trade an item, simply add a comment saying that you will be submitting a blank want list. Deleting items makes it extremely difficult for those generating their want lists as they go, and for the moderation of the math trade. Thanks!
The basic idea is that lots of people make games available for trade, and then state which games they're be willing to trade each of their games for. (Each game has an individual want list, so math trades are sometimes referred to as "No Risk" math trades, as you'll only ever trade a game for an item on its want list; if you don't see anything you're willing to trade for, you may simply submit a blank want list.) At the end of this header is a link to a more detailed explanation, for anyone interested.
We will be using Jeff Michaud's OLWLG (On-Line Want List Generator) for both generating and submitting want lists - see: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/159648/page/1
Deadline to add games: 7:00 PM Central (BGG) Time on Monday, June 9th.
Want Lists Due: 7:00 PM Central (BGG) Time on Wednesday, June 11th.
Want Lists Posted: Wednesday, June 11th.
Results Posted: No later than Thursday, June 12th.
Trade Happens: At the Oasis of Fun (given the moderate size of the event, each participant is responsible for delivering the games that they are trading to the recipients).
Restrictions and Policy:
This Math Trade is open only to people attending the Oasis of Fun 2008.
Maximimum number of items listed: As many as you're willing to haul to Atlanta.
Wantlist restrictions: None (we'll be using TradeMaximizer, which doesn't require them).
Priority: I will use scaled priorities. From a user point of view, this simply means that games should be listed in the order of your interest; however, the prioritization is simply a tie-breaker.
What's TradeMaximizer: See http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/TradeMaximizer. Or, in less detail - it's software for running math trades that finds an optimal solution in minimal time.
I will be using the following options:
The use of ALLOW-DUMMIES allows for duplicate protection. Please read Jeff's thread on the OLWLG to see how to create duplicate protection, and let me know if you have any questions.
For an explanation of SCALED-PRIORITIES, see http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1710704#1710704. It's worth noting that scaled priorities tend to somewhat favor longer want lists. (I believe this is a good thing because longer want lists generate more trades.)
For any questions around formatting a want list, particularly if you're new to math trades, please mail me - I'll be more than happy to help.
Restrictions on items: Only three items are allowed as main items:
2) Gift Certificates to online game stores
Other items are allowed as sweeteners; cash and gift certificates are _NOT_ allowed as sweeteners.
Because cash is allowed in this math trade, there is a restriction on want lists:
You may not list cash or gift certificates on the want lists for cash or gift certificates.
In addition, you may only list a maximum of three more non-game (cash or gift certificate) items than you list games.
Please describe the condition of your items, and note the language.
How to add games to the math trade: Click on "Add Item" at the bottom of the header, choose "Game", and either add the number for the game on BGG or click on the magnifying glass then type the name of the game, selecting it from the list if there are multiple matches.
To add cash or gift certificates, choose "Outside the Scope of BGG" as the game, and then in the description include the following:
+altname+ (Name of your item -altname-
+altname+ 20 Euros -altname-
By including the altname, the OLWLG will use the name you've chosen as the display name. This should be reasonably short.
And discussion or requests should be posted to the Yahoo Groups list.
