This geeklist is another in a series looking at graphical representations of some the most played games, by month, since June 2003. The graph shows the rank of the game in terms of most plays by unique users. So #1 is the game that the highest number of users reported playing that month. The data is restricted to the Top 100 played games each month.

Most of the data for this list was provided by nexttothemoon for his geeklist and was used in my previous geeklist:
Most Played Games 2003-2008.
I have updated the data with the months since then and thought it would be interesting to look at the plays for some groups of games.

If people would like additions to this geeklist, please add a comment with the group of games you'd like to see. 5 or less games make a readable graph. Data is restricted to games that have been in the top 100 games for a month.

Interesting to see only the original Carcassonne has held its position - and well! Inns & Cathedrals is by far the most played expansion.

Memoir '44 killed Battle Cry.
Then it didn't see any impact from the arrival of C&C ancients - a different group of gamers?
Then Memoir saw off the challenge of BattleLore.

Not exclusively games for only 2 players, but ones highly recommended for 2. Carcassonne could have featured on this graph.

Cue debate on what is Ameritrash.
Arkham Horror's growing popularity is no doubt helped my the release of excellent expansions. Interesting to see Game of Thrones fall out of the Top 100 and not return.

At first glance not the most intesting graph, but actually its pretty amazing to see that none of them are showing much sign of decay in #plays.

So of the Top 5 most played games this year, 2 are 'cult of the new game', while 3 are old favourites.

Interesting to see when the Top 5 games arrived on the scene and how their game playing is going. I suspect Agricola will see many more plays when it becomes widely available, while T&E may continue its gradual decline.

The original Ticket to Ride is the most long-lived favourite. Probably this is supported by vastly more copies being out there [8552 owned on BGG vs. 4701 owned of TTR:Europe]

The big 5 fillers show just how much longevity they have. I'd highly recommend adding most of these to your game collection.

Gulo Gulo is widely recognised as the best kids game, but it barely appears on this list.
I wonder if this is due to low ownership [1197 owned vs. 3003 for Hey That's My Fish] or low reporting of plays of kids games...?

Probably some games that hard core grognards might not consider to be wargames at all. These are all considered wargames by BGG and are the 5 most played.

I thought it would be good to show the playing trends for some of the games from my Under-rated? geeklist.
These are the fillers from that geeklist that don't feature on any other graph on this geeklist.
Notice the longevity of Diamant, Can't Stop and Tsuro, while Felix looks to be a flash in the pan.

These games don't have much in common. I wondered if Ca$h n Guns might have impacted the #plays of Bang! but it doesn't seem to.
It'll be interesting to see if Kingsburg can maintain its plays, if so it might be a feature on the BGG Ratings Top 100.
