I've been wanting to get some playtests done against my Race for the Galaxy AI. So, I've decided to pit it against the collective wisdom of the Geek!

I've started a game of the two-player advanced version, with the first expansion added. We drew Doomed World, going up against Old Earth.

Each list item will be a decision to make. I'll handle minor stuff like ordering of Consume powers myself, but the big stuff like actions to play, cards to Develop/Settle, etc will be up for discussion. After it seems that a consensus is reached (or never will be), I'll apply the collective choice (or the one with most thumbs) and we'll see the results.

Please include some reasoning behind your proposed actions -- it may help me make improvements later.

Before the first turn, we must discard two cards from our hand:

Bio-Hazard Mining World
Clandestine Uplift Lab
Galactic Bazaar
Public Works
Mining League
Galactic Genome Project

Go ahead and discuss first-turn actions as well.

EDIT: We have moved on to the next item.

We discarded Galactic Genome Project and Clandestine Uplift Lab, then selected Explore +1,+1/Develop. The AI apparently gambled on a Settle from us, choosing Consume-Trade/Produce.

In the Explore phase, we need to discard two of:

Secluded World
Pre-Sentient Race
Alien Toy Shop
Space Marines

Then choose what to develop -- Public Works was the expected choice, but Space Marines and Mining League are available -- and what to pay (if Space Marines is chosen).

EDIT: We have moved on to the next item.

It was a close result of what to discard, but I went with Pre-Sentient Race and Space Marines. Then we developed Public Works, and Old Earth placed a Contact Specialist.

There was some discussion on turn 2 actions before, but the Contact Specialist may change that, so let's open that up again.

EDIT: We have moved on to the next item, below.

Well, it seems the "majority" opinion (counting separate posts and thumbs) was to Settle/Consume-Trade, settling Alien Toy Shop and paying with everything but the Bio-Hazard Mining World. I realize there were lots of dissenting opinions -- maybe I should count well-written posts as having more "votes".

While we did so, the AI chose Consume-Trade/Produce (again), settling The Last of the Uplift Gnarssh (at no cost), trading its good and producing there.

Turn 3 actions? We have several cards due to the trade, if you can't read them, they are:

Rebel Miners
Comet Zone
Bio-Hazard Mining World
Tourist World
Deserted Alien Colony
Galactic Studios
Colony Ship

OK, we went with Settle/Produce, using Doomed World to pay for Galactic Studios.

The AI with with Settle/Consume-Trade, settling Mining World and again trading the Uplift Gnarssh good.

Our Settle bonus and the card from the Studios production were Galactic Federation and Merchant Guild.

We chose Consume-x2/Produce, the AI went with Develop/Settle.

We need to decide what to develop and settle, and what to pay for each. It is possible that the card we get for developing (from Public Works) may be a settle-able world, in which case I'll post another item.

We developed the Colony Ship, using Rebel Miners and Galactic Federation as payment. The AI went with Terraforming Guild, claiming the goal for first six-cost development. Our bonus card from Public Works was Diversified Economy.

What to settle, and how to pay?

We settled Comet Zone, the AI got out Volcanic World.

After consuming and producing, we ended up some new cards:

Galactic Engineers
Reptilian Uplift Race
Contact Specialist

Is there any suggestion other than Consume-x2/Produce?

We can settle both Galactic Engineers and Tourist World. Should we, and which card should we keep if so?

We settled Tourist World; the AI settled Deserted Alien World only (I'll need to look into that).

Since the game is basically over, I ran the next turn with Settle/Consume-x2. The AI chose to Develop/Consume-Trade (something else to look at). I decided to settle the Deserted Alien Colony and forgo the Develop.

Thanks for everyone's help -- I have lots of material to look at for improvements!
