The February meet was a huge success, despite the absence of some of our long standing members. I was tucked away in the corner furiously strategising over a game of Runewars and did not take in a lot of what else was going on, so if the other participants could add there games played here it would be greatly appreciated.

JM and Katie and Mikie had this set up and were looking for players while I was teaching Shogun. They were kind enough to wait way too long for me to get Shogun running and join the game. I had been super keen to get a game of this in, being a fan of both Twilight Imperium and A Game of Thrones. I was not disappointed. Despite the fact we didn't get to finish as Mikie had a previous engagement, and I also had to leave shortly after, I was really impressed at how streamlined the game mechanisms were (for a complicated game), and how well they worked together. Despite this being a very new game, Katie and J.M. had a really good handle on the rules and relevant errata and clarifications, and I am really glad I got a run through of this game before mine arrives with the next WABA order (erm .. maybe not ... just checked and this is now out of stock .. curses.)

2 games:

1) Rob, Leece, Sue and myself. Out of sheer luck and a little bit of lucky card play, I managed to start the game on top of a treasure and proceeded to draw 12 coins (2 x 6) from this. After much exploring of the map and amulet gathering we ended up with myself the yellow team gathering the most coins by the end.

2) Steve, Jeremy, Neil and myself. Another good game however this one seemed to have lots of really long treasures. I managed to scrap to a win after securing 3 first choices of a 7 long treasure which saw me gather 15 points. Again ended up winning with 40 points.

If you haven't seen this game, it's a great game to play as well as great quality piece wise.

This was the unpublished prototype by Barbara, a very friendly game designer

I think the game was called World Soccer Championship Manager or something like that. The basic premise being that you start with $50 million dollars and pull in players to your side. The more expensive the player, the better they are but watch out for injuries and red cards.

The game was between Jason / Matt combo team (Jason had to leave early), Ernest, Michael and myself. Jason was the first with a semi-decent full squad with the rest of us having specialities in some areas but deficienies in others, e.g. Michael at one point only had forward players.

After much cheering, player stealing and going into debt a few times, Jason/Matt emerged the victors in a showdown game with Ernest, both of them having won a Silver cup and Michael and I trophyless for the whole season. I blame it on selling Popov at the wrong time as well as bad umpires laugh

Overall a very fun game which, with a couple of tweaks should be a great game that I hope to see in print one day. I call it Long Shot but with more control (and no dice)

Ok, we admit it. Steve and I have a Combat Commander obsession. But we'll get over it....eventually. Meanwhile if anyone wants to try it out, let me know...happy to train up a victim...er opponent.

I played the US with artillery support against underfed, unsupported Nazi scum, huddling inside Norman farm buildings and behind bocage. I fully expected to start rolling the Jerries promptly back....then things started going wrong. Steve gleefully scored some heavy artillery support of his own (150mm I think) and plastered me good and proper. My private Ryans needed saving! After a lot of time gazing at the Norman mud, my boys were bouncing back....but it was too late.

End result: German victory. Der Fuhrer is issuing commendations.

Chris, Hong and I played this game. It came down to any of us being able to win with one more chest but Chris got there first with his crazily huge stock of wild cards he'd amassed,

Me v Chris T. Surprisingly poker-based. Like poker, would have been better with more players. I won because Chris avoided black sheep which allowed me to get more sets for bonus points.
