Richard taught the game to myself, Chris and Craig. Described as Settler of Catan cross with a wargame, this land became the struggle between four powers. We declared Chris the winner after a certain time. I certainly would like to try this again, especially now starting to understand the strategy behind the strengths and weaknesses of the troops and because I really enjoy the negotiation aspects that can develop.

A five player game saw Chris defeat (in order) Richard, Ernest, Craig and first time player Roland 108:92:85:77:64. This game's theme may be a little weak/tacked on and there is definitely some depth to the thinking required.

Richard, Craig (first time playing this game) and I twice gathered up our forces and journey into both the village and dungeon to slay monsters and prove ourselves as the greatest. As usual, I was hopeless proving that if ever you need monsters to be slayed, don't rely on me to get a team together. The other lesson learnt is that if the fate of the world relies on the monsters that someone will randomly select, don't get Richard to select them or the monster combination will defeat even the most sturdy group of heroes.

I like the theme of the game and the various combinations possible (like Dominion and its various expansions) make this game very replayable.

Yes Richard, I played it.

Roland was good enough to refresh my mind on playing, as well as teaching Barbara.

I played it again on Monday.

When there are five of you racing, it really is the only the last race that counts.

I guess I should also mention that I won the last race.

Starting game for my Thornlie day, starting off with Craig, Roland, Paul and myself. Roland took an early lead by betting heavily on a couple of horses that both came in (1st and 3rd I think) whilst I was left trailing with a single win on a 3rd placer.

The second race saw Paul build up a huge pile of cash whilst Roland lagged behind with only 1 win and Craig and I getting moderate gains.

The final race sealed the deal with Paul's diversification over many horses working a treat, Roland coming in 2nd after a couple of fortunate bets, followed by Craig and then myself with a paltry $600 in winnings compared to over $2000 by Paul.

More strategic than Long shot and currently up for trade. If anyone's interested they can make me an offer

laugh
