I learnt this with Warren; Warren won. This is a rather abstract game effectively about gaining the enough items (crystals) to fill six spaces with an interesting, if unnecessary, theme.

This is a really horrible description of a game that actually had a lot more depth that I originally gave it credit for.

I will never understand how people manage to prepare and win this game; I just wing it and hope I don't come last!

5 player game with Warren, Keith, Jocelyn and Alistair. Keith won, other places unremembered

Even though it was a shortened game, this is one of the games that I will (almost) always play. I can't articulate what it is about it, but the overall combination just makes me happy

I played a game with Hong, Liz, and Jess. Short report: we won! laugh Great cooperation and clever deployment of abilities won through, oh and not getting a run of epidemics helped. A fun session.

JM brought this out of the collection and got a game going. A strange mix of Yatzee meets Dominion. Would help if one knew what card combos worked. JM took the win.

Trish, Ian, Lauren and I started with this surprisingly deep auction game. Modern Art is quickly racing up my favourite games list. Layers of strategy lie beneath the simple rules. For the record, Lauren won, followed by the rest of us.

Same players as Modern Art. I double bluffed everyone by placing 10's at the top of my numerous money stacks and was duly left in peace to run away with a monstrous victory. Amazons win again!

Same players as Modern Art. We thought we'd give this a whorl as it seems to be a perennial WABA favourite. I'll admit that Chvatil has come up with some unique mechanics for this game. Building your ship and watching it get trashed is oddly satisfying, but with so many great games vying for table-time out there I'm not sure if I'll give this one another go in the future. I had the most space credits at the end of this one.

Rob and I set up our newly made big map of No Man's Land in France, probably anywhere between 1915 to early 1918. Probably around Verdun, or the Somme River. Somewhere like that.

Fortunately the balloon models that Rob spent his WABA Christmas raffle money voucher on arrived that very day, so we gleefully set up across three tables and looked for players.

In the end we got 16! Gosh!

The Central Powers missions were to bomb the town, strafe the machine gun posts, and achieve aerial superiority in fighters whilst defending their observation balloon.

The Allied guys had to defend their trench, photograph the AntiAircraft site, and bomb the town and strafe the trenches.

It was a very bloody battle. Not many planes survived on the Allied side. I managed to limp through most of the game not doing much good,
due to some self inflicted damage and a gammy engine.

Once again I apologise to Jason for running into his perfectly good bomber in the third card phase at the start. Sorry. It copped me 6 points of damage and an engine trouble. I hope you didn't get as much damage!

Perhaps if it hadn't been so hot in the gaming room I might have been thinking a bit straighter.

This is what happens when I fly an unfamiliar aircraft. I'm going back to my puple pretty plane and my normal crew! Richard, front and centre!
Commander Richard front and centre! But I cannot complain, my side won, in spite of my stupidity. Thanks fellas, I'd fly with you again in a shot, but, this time, I'll try not to fly straight into you.

Special thanks to Jason, who did a marvellous job winching down the balloon and flying a couple of planes as well as firing the AA. Good job!

It was very exciting though, and so many planes doing lots of stuff at once was amazing, and not quite as full on as the 20 plane or so game that we had at Swancon.

In the end the Allies achieved most of their goals - we damaged the trenches but didn't destroy them, so that lost us points.

The Central Powers achieved 2 of their 3 objectives and had the pilot with the most kills, the indefatigable Commander Richard! How many was it? At least 3 that I know about.

That got them at total of 56 points.

The Allies completed 2 missions and most of the third one.

That totalled 65 points including points for aircraft kills.

Neither side lost their defensive objective.

This resulted in a marginal victory for the Allies despite their Squadron Leader flying directly into a significant bomber in the first round. I won't do *that* again.

Good game! Have to do it again sometime!

Jason, Stephen and myself played this, my first time with a 3 player game. A bit more challenging considering 6 cards are removed and me significantly overpaying for a 17 point card!

Good quick filler that's satisfying with Stephen winning despite Jason's protests that I had won (I actually lost by quite a lot!) laugh

A quick filler to finish off the day.

Can't remember exactly who was who but it was an intense season. At one stage in the 2nd race, all of Orange and Green's cards were out taking the last four spots.

In the end I think Purple eeked out a win in the last seconds whilst everyone else just tried to place somewhere in the points.

Five of us sat down to have a crack at this. Our teacher was busy refreshing his grasp of the rules by translating the German rules - most impressive. We struggled a bit to get a grasp of the mechanics, and the game seems fairly chaotic. However, we struggled on (or fled towards Carthage), while the Goth advanced.

An interesting experience. I am not sure I understood what I was doing most of the time, but I managed to end up in the middle of the pack, so I must have been doing something right.
