Today's meet was a real advert for the hobby - many new games including Settlers of America and Fresco. Small vyed with huge in Bang and Arkham Horror, kings against usurpers in Dominion and Thunderstone, whilst the trivial had a run alongside the epics in It's Alive and Twilight Imperium. 12 til 10 really gives the monster games a chance to be played.

Trish was the chief of The Yssaril Tribes, Ian the admiral of The Mentak Coalition, Lauren was one with the L1Z1X Mindnet and I was professor emeritus of the Universities of Jol-Nar. A learning game for us all, we floundered initially in the face of the enormous number of options presented every turn by this beast of a game. Once The Yssaril audaciously used the beta wormhole to take control of Mecatol Rex in turn 2, our collective trance was broken and we got down to building our fleets for bloody galactic war. Unfortunately, after 5 hours which passed in a blur, our alternate reality kicked in as Ian and Trish had to make their excuses and leave. One final battle saw the deadly beautiful Mentak pirates hold off a concerted joint attack from the fish-faced academics and the cyborg collective. The Yssaril pipped the L1Z1X 7 points to 6 with the Mentak avoiding the wooden spoon on 5 points. I finished with 4 (and the unutilised WarSun technology!).

Would love to give this another whirl some time now that we know the rules.

David, Tim, Hung and I played this new Settlers variant and it went down very well. The game is different enough from normal Settlers to be interesting and the end was exciting with three players being close enough to possibly win on the last turn. There could only be one winner though, ME.

Thanks to Andrew for lending us his copy.

It was 7 investigators versus Nyolethotep (or something ) and the game started off as you'd expect, getting close to losing on turn 2. From there, due a brillant play by Ernest who closed a gate to prevent the Ancient One waking, we clawed our way back to eventual victory!

My character seemed to do very little apart from collecting a huge number of items which seems the norm against this particular Ancient One. A good time had by all with the verdict that you should always roll the white dice to succeed and the black dice to fail. laugh

(Session report coming soon! Stay tuned! below)

First time playing this with 6 of us.

The first game went quickly with the sheriff quickly dying after he put his deputy in jail by accident (sigh, what's a Deputy to do? )

The second game was a huge shootout with all the outlaws going down and the "immortal" sheriff who kept on regenerating his life!

Not a bad game overall, better than Munchkin, but still a little too random for me. Fun beer and pretzels game.

Thanks to Jason for lending this one.

This was a teaching game with the base set. Unsurprisingly, being the only experienced player, I won out but everyone had caught on by the end and seemed to want to have another go. Tip: that's where the addiction starts and 3 expansions + lots of money spent, you still want more, more, MORE! laugh

Tim, Gracie, Hong and I played this game. I, as with most games, lost; I think Hong narrowly placed ahead of Tim for the win.
